NOT recommended on full price, especially with the abysmal steam suggested pricing

I beat it and... it's so damn buggy. Don't bother going for 100%, it's currently impossible and my 20+ hour save is locked in that state forever. This game rides off of art really hard. Gameplay is super basic.

Some thoughts:

-It feels like his game was never playtested because just one casual playthrough would show you so many issues.
-Menu is the real villain of this game. It just plain sucks.
-You have so many attacks and weapons in this game yet all of them use one of 3 mechanics that are super basic and boring. They try to make it more complex by introducing like 10 types of dmg but it really doesn't matter.
-There is 0 balance, and you'll end up fighting 1-2 enemies the entire game. Some enemies can combo you while others are so easy that I've never seen them attack once because I wiped them turn one. Usually, the easy ones give you more exp.
-At times there's too much dialogue and characters exist in multiple places all at once (with the exact same dialogue they had 20 hours ago, while their version in a different place says something new, it's bizarre).
-Some achievements are just straight up bugged, and I couldn't find any info online how to even get the blue blessing
-Special skills are pretty pointless, I never bothered to use them or add lvl up points to them.
There's a lot more that I won't bother writing here, I put a lot of my thoughts in the feedback thread

If you like numbers:
Art 10/10
Music 8.5/10 (not the same as the sound design, on that one they dropped the ball, some things don't make a sound at all, but they should since they are required to progress, or things give you negative sound like you've dismissed something)
Battle gameplay: 3/10
Overworld gameplay 7/10
Menu 0.5/10
Story: 6/10 (pretty generic but the characters are fun)

I invested 20+ hours into that game because I was trying to 100% it and didn't know it's still bugged. Multiple achievements are bugged. -3 for that because some bugs are so apparent that it genuinely feels like any playtesting would find them out. It's still positive because besides all that it's still an OK experience and will be pretty good once they fix everything. I like Bug Fables far more though tbh and it's super polished in comparison, and the regional pricing of this game is pretty... rough... so decide on that for yourself.

Addendum: I still struggle to see what Lint learned in his quest. The only thing to learn was that his family sucks and they both don't support his passion and they left him for ages while going on trips. Well, I guess that is still worth getting some compensation... Overall most of these lessons are pretty weak or backwards

Tl;dr: I'd say it's worth it but your milage may vary depending on you standards and expectations. Quite a few things can get annoying over time. My experience: It's better than I expected up to level 60, then it slowly gets worse than I expected.

Warning: Wall of text incoming.

Singleplayer... PvE player here. First of all, I think this game needs a lot of improvements to the 'singleplayer' mode to be a real singleplayer instead of just being the port of multiplayer. A lot of things that are understandable in PvP multiplayer are downright annoying in singleplayer or PvE.

Up to level 60 the game is really enjoyable. After that it enters a slippery slope and gets more and more asinine to play tbh. Gloomrot South, I don't think there's a single side area in there, pretty much all highlighted areas have some kind of boss in them that you need for progress, which makes the game enter the kill boss, get the unlocked material, get eq, kill boss... loop. It becomes super linear because there's not much you can explore. The Silverlight Hills area is just awful in my opinion for quite a few reasons.

Because the level is tied to the equipment the progress in this game looks like a saw tooth pattern. You kill like 7 bosses back-to-back -> you struggle because you already have the best eq you can get from the get-go -> You kill the hard bosses and unlock better eq -> you again kill 7 bosses right after another ad infinitum. This means that the game is either easy as pie or hard (and later on unfair af), it's rare for the difficulty to be in the middle.

Generally, I had fun for the first 60 levels and the default settings grind was fine to me. (teleportation limitation being by default is just the dumbest thing ever though especially with so few portals. Can't tp with 99% of items in the game including the very basic materials...? At least in Valheim it's only about metals. Another remnant of PvP.) This game is fun, but the experience is not smooth. Later on, bosses become straight up unfair while being higher level than you at the same time and they are required to get better stuff, and there is no other way to be stronger in this game but to unlock better eq. If a boss shoots 20 attacks that all do 1/3 of your health and stun you as well... that's not great. If a boss uses an attack that you can only get out of using a dash and after immediately another attack where you need dash... that shouldn't be the case. It becomes unavoidable. Cheesing a boss by only using ranged skills for 20 min is not fun...

Main thing that I NEED devs to take a deep look at: continuity. If you teach player that they can block a certain kind of attacks then that should be the case for the whole game, not that you must randomly guess if the shield will work or not. If the AOE attacks are telegraphed, then they should all be telegraphed. If the attack is showing the area where it lands, it shouldn't hit outside that area or spread immediately after landing there, if it spreads then it needs to be delayed slightly and shown to the player. These are the basics of good combat design.

More than content, this game needs polish. It's a dodecahedron while it should be a smooth sphere. Devs hit a gold mine idea by accident and are kind of struggling how to deal with it.

Addendum: I won't comment on Early Access DLCs, but I hope they add more customization options instead of selling them. I know this company used to only make free to play games before and they are owned by a Chinese company now, but lords help us if this gets added predatory monetization practices.

Edit: So... I finally had the chance to try the new update and I'm sad to say that I don't really enjoy it that much... The simplest way I can explain it is... You know how you are enjoying the game but at some point it falls off and becomes more of a chore but you still push forward because it's fun in some ways while in others it's not...? That's how the entire game feels for me after the update...

The simplicity is gone and so are the nice concise runs... Now I never feel like 'oh just one more run since they are so short and fun', because they take ages, like 40+min and a lot of that time is spent on not having fun. I have numerous issues that all add together. If the first time I played this game was on this update I wouldn't be so excited about it. The original version did something that does not happen to me often, it pulled me in so I couldn't stop playing it. This update is more of a 'I'll get as far as my motivation lasts and chuck it on a shelf till another update'.




What can I say... I love it.

This game already has so much content, and a huge update is coming and that update is 0.2.0... Not even close to 1.0, which simply blows my mind. I bought it in a bundle not long ago because I had it on my wishlist. I thought this was going to be just another small game for an hour or 2, just a small project. I couldn't have been more wrong. I binged this game for a few days straight, which doesn't happen to me often with games nowadays. Dev, keep up the great work mate.

There's an enemy that sounds like you are cracking open a cold one when you defeat them.

Edit: Best I can describe it is that this game is like cooked meat without any spices. It's ok, some people will like it more, some less, but it's undeniable that it could be fixed with some spices to make it so much better.

Memes aside, everything in this game is heavily based on RNG. With rng based games, you usually get something to skew the scale in your favor so you don't just bash your head against the wall all the time and to make the whole experience more fluid. This is not the case here. Your experience will super heavily depend on rng. If you get good drops early on, you can farm more good drops faster, so you get nice progress. If you are unable to do so, you will do the exact same thing over and over again till you get better drops. And this is assuming that you are good enough at the game to beat at least the first boss, if you are not, then good luck because there's nothing that will help you with that. I like A LOT about this game, but I agree with others that something is missing and it feels off.

You can keep getting crap gear, even from bosses, for hours with negligible stat increases or get something insane. One thing that is just pure garbo though: rerolls are tied to your gear, so if you are getting dirt-tier crap, you might as well ignore stats and just focus on getting as many rerolls as possible. Also, if you've played the demo, then you get 2 cubes that add like 3 rerolls of every type, which is stupid as hell because this skews the experience of people that played the demo vs others. Rerolls are crucial, and everyone would enjoy this game so much more if they had this item that is super OP early on. Current progress graph can be described as a near flat line that jumps up significantly depending on your luck, that flat part can be 1h long or 20h long. This should not work like that.

There are other issues, like lightning-speed enemies that can easily overtake you, a bug where you use up both dashes, an instakill bug with the boss, etc.

The game is fine (unfinished) but I'll be honest, you could probaby learn programing from ground up in the time you spend waiting and make your own game faster.

I was in highschool when I bought this, I have masters degree now and the game is still not finished. In fact, in that entire time they added a few hours at most which is ridiculous. Devs have a weekly blog but where does all that progress go...?

I'll do a proper review if I'm still alive by the time they finish this game. As a plus side, this game is so old now that it should work on calculators by today's standards.

P.S. The arcade mode still sucks and I have no idea why they didn't focus on the main game first before touching this

Well, probably the best game I've played this year. Takes around 40h to 100% (besides the achievement that is only possible in ng+, didn't feel like doing that)

This will get me in trouble, but I really couldn't bring myself to care about Garl... It felt annoying how much he was shoved into my face as an amazing guy for no reason. He's not a protagonist of this game, but they sure make him seem like it. I just wish we would get more development of other characters and better closure for some of them (or at all in some cases) instead of always Garl Garl Garl...

Also Seraï best character.

Good game, worth the money and I hope we get more content because it's really fun.

Menus could use some love since they reek of mobile games and there are minor bugs like not being able to click on something or your volume resetting etc.

One thing of note: I got everything in this game but the block milestones. I got every single upgrade and over 500 cores and finished the game with 3mil blocks destroyed. This game has a steam achievement for 10mil blocks which is pretty ridiculous... What is worse is that the ingame milestones go up to 30mil. With everything unlocked I'd have to just mindlessly grind for hour and keep clicking restart which is pretty dumb. Sorry Jimmy, you ain't worth it. I gave up after grinding half a mil blocks. Also the rewards for block milestones kind of stink.

Eh, it's just not for me... It looks a lot more fun than it is. I spend 5x more time in the menu puzzling to get a good combo only to do a match that is so short that I barely feel any effects of my optimization... For that reason, I don't like it. And the animations take a while in comparison to the match length.

It's not a vampire survivors type game btw, it's more of a puzzle game than anything else. If you like testing crap then this is for you. That's the entire premise of this game, you make a prototype and test it in like 1 minute matches etc. For me, that's just far too little time. There is potential here, but it went in the wrong direction for me to enjoy.

I might play it from time to time but it did not suck me in the way I was expecting.

Huh I didn't review this.

Well, this game helped me relax and get through some tough times. It's the closest any PC game came to giving me that feeling of relaxing with a jigsaw puzzle. Very much would like to see more.
