A surreal story about a different, yet very real kind of horror just out of our sight. If you can go in as blind as possible when playing this game, then play it as soon as possible.

A curious mixture of hope and dread indeed.
This game is top tier retro styled horror at its finest. With a compelling story, unique gameplay and absolutely dripping with its own artistic style.
In combination with the top down camera angle & 360 degree turning, this is exactly how modern tank controls should play. If you have a controller, this how the game is meant to be played.

With no restrictions on inventory slots and easy weapon swapping, the majority of the game is spent on exploration, monster killing, note reading, puzzle solving, key item finding all whilst trying to figure out what is happening in the park. There are a lot of areas that have optional puzzles as well as optional environment interactions. Their helpful to complete, but are not required to finish the story. If you need help on what to do there's a hint crow in the opening area past the gate, using hits could count against your endgame ranking, but you'll most likely be doing multiple playthrough's for that S ranking.

I suppose if I had any gripes about the game is there's no mini map, no way to track your exact location on the map in the area your in, no reminders or recording of your objectives or checkpoints at key moments in the story. But you do have to take into account that this is a PS1 styled game, games didn't hold your hand back then, this one won't either. You also can't move from you place on the map when you aim, but you can completely rotate as well as quick turn into aiming depending on which direction you facing. Might be a stretch if they added in voice acting, but not really needed for this game. Have like a cheesy vibe to it, but its also kinda good too. Maybe add in a leaderboard for speedrunners, showing their overall metrics while they were playing the game.

On my first play through I used 39 heals, 5 hints used, 10/15 secrets found, & 0 lives used on survival mode, thankfully rankings are not determined by total death's, saves or overall timed played. You can unlock additional items that'll help you along the way to reach that S ranking, these can be toggle on and off in the pause menu.

This is an absolute must play if you looking for a game to scratch that exploitative survival horror itch. You can also play the game "without getting attacked" in exploration mode. I prefer survival mode as its not too challenge, and the looming threat adds to the horror aspect.

Sludge Life 2 is more of the Sludge Life you know and love but with game quality improvements. The game is more notably smaller than the first, but makes it easier to find more secrets, travel & complete side missions. There's also the addition of more items that help aid you in traversing the world. I would suggest looking up a guide to find the items, as you can miss some of them, & all of them are vital to your traversal across the sludge. I was able to beat the game casually & get the endings in under 7 hours of gameplay minus the side missions. Hoping for a Sludge Life 3 I'm the near future.

Another Coffee Talk about making coffee and talking to your customers. It's an alright sequel, that doesn't change up the formula much, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. One of the exceptions being you can give items to your customers and there are two extra tea options. The game's story focuses mainly on the new characters with the growth of the old characters. Feels like this game is missing something story wise, but its still very much enjoyable. You can play the sequel without playing the first game, but why wouldn't you play the first game, it's fantastic. I would suggest getting this one on sale if you can, but play the first one.

Extremely short campaign, not worth the money. The game campaign can be beaten in under 40 minutes first try. Its does have the goofy charm of the older games if you squint, but that can only carry it so far. If your looking for a retro on rail shooter that offers the bang your looking for, check out Dead Containment or the BioCrisis : Return 2 the Lab Demo.
