A short game that can be played in a single evening. There are no real puzzles, there is no combat and the game is mostly a conveyor belt as you walk through the linear story/environment. To progress onto the next room sometimes you just look at the ceiling, there isn't a lot to do. The production team needs some really creative puzzle/gameplay creators. The sound and visual design is great but this isn't a game, there isn't anything to play or really lose against. If you've watched or read a lot of horror then the tropes here are quite banal, no twists or turns really. Watch Memento instead.

If you grew up in the 80's and 90's with all those Ninja Turtles, Street Sharks and Biker Mice From Mars then you'll enjoy the aesthetic of what is a fun, cheerful, subtly comedic strategy game in a far future post apocalypse game.

Pros
- Customisable/upgradable weapons
- Looting
- Great voice actors with wonderful art
- Enjoyable strategic gameplay in the realms of XCOM and Shadowrun
- It's really fun sneaking around and picking off enemies in set formations

Where could the game get a lot better?
- Environmental puzzles ala Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
- More looting and extended skill trees
- Open world exploration similar to Baldur's Gate style games i.e. you can be ambushed whilst fast travelling. Environmental/level quests that further story immersion.
- Flesh out the characters further with more humour
- Engage in conversation trees like Baldur's Gate or Mass Effect style
- Create larger teams/battles
- Crafting skills

I loved the first, the second suffered the same fate all middle of a trilogy suffer from......... lots of action and less writing. This game has some positives but the negatives out weigh it in light of the first of the trilogy.

Positives

- gorgeous looking game
- very interesting premise with the South American theme
- wonderful and authentic art/design
- customisable difficulty settings

Negatives

- poor writing and plot, somewhat rushed
- the ballistics physics are non existent. Bullets just go through enemies and they drop after a while of being shot. No feel at all of bullets hitting enemies until the last one and it's lack luster
- the environmental puzzles are insanely short and rudimentary
- swimming.......... so much swimming
- so many slow animations of moving through cracks in walls
- sneaking and killing enemies is very hit and miss if you enjoy stealth regardless of personal skill level
- side missions feel like a chore
- character development is minimal and NPC's are not engaging
- Lara is portrayed as a somewhat naive, spoiled and self entitled millenial
- Death scenes are highly downplayed compared to the previous games losing a lot of the survival horror nuances
- Level design is far more linear and open sandbox areas are much flatter with less use of space and opening of shortcuts
- weapon customisations seem to be mostly wrapping everything in leather

It just isn't the smart and clever game the first of the trilogy was in every way. Scary, tragic, thrilling, difficult, great story, a number of inter personal dynamics to latch onto with the team........ Some people think video games can amount to being art. Those of the reviews I see where people are just calling critics entitled children just have really low superficial standards as the game is beautiful to look at but lacks a lot in depth.

Super buggy for me. Everything from the controls on certain challenges through to challenges just being broken. As in you complete them, look at a video to make sure you did it exactly right. Then you do it perfectly 5 more times and it's just not giving you the item you are after.

The game swaps goofy funny story telling for a more "epic" and cinematic set of ideas. Some of them are really cool but the puzzles are really boring. You can tell they put in a lot less effort to visualise this game compared to the DC ones. Plus a lot of the puzzles when in context in a specific universe are often just random nonsense. If you told me a teenager took the engine and made a game I'd believe you.

I loved the first game and played it with avid interest for what might occur around every corner. This "sequel" takes away, literally, all the gameplay mechanics that made the first special.

No item combining
No managing your health vs. madness meters
No tinder boxes for creating light
A lantern with infinite light
No real puzzles to solve

The game seems shorter, has an interesting premise but the outcome is predictable early on and the monsters aren't scary. This isn't really to do with the types of monsters used but how they are employed. There is a much greater sense of theatre, exploration and depravity in the first game. Even the reason as to why things occurred in the plot is kind of..... lame. For me this feels more like a galary of limited events, little to no survival horror aspects and suitable to truly scare only the faintest of heart. My favourite and only truly redeeming quality is the soundtrack, the use of texture and tone is truly fantastic.
