In the time it took me to write this review Messimer still hasn't finished his 200+ attack wombo combo. Can't wait for my turn though, i'm gonna chug that estus so hard. Might even have enough time for a double chug! Will keep you all posted

I don't understand why this game is mixed. Its easily the best non-fromsoft souls game. The combat is great, as is the world design & lore. I love that you can stand on a tall tower at the bridge and see every area in and around the city that you'll go to and then can walk there without any loading screens (Very bloodbornesque). Performance and online connectivity was pretty bad on launch but is better now. Looking forward to doing another playthrough now they added randomizer and ironman modes.

Highly recommended and honestly it's a must buy if its on a sale (at the moment its 50% off which is an absolute steal)

This game is just another looter-shooter when It should have been an immersive space rpg...

Honestly Its just fallout 4 with a sci-fi skin. Same engine, same graphics, same ai, same mechanics, same storytelling. Not the revolutionary experience Todd promised us. I'm sure mods will make it much more enjoyable but this is a review of the base game only.

Some Dwarves are whipping a couple of oxen so I cast speak with animals and say "hey these guys are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you should kill them" the ox says "yeah thats a good idea" then turns around and destroys them. Justice served. Also great game 10/10

If they call the game darkest dungeon 2 its gonna get compared to 1 so here we go:

Now I like that Redhook tried something different instead of just making a copy of the first game. However, I find the first game to be significantly more enjoyable.
In Darkest dungeon 1 the campaign was the game and each time you completed a expedition, killed a boss or one of your heroes died it really meant something. That was great because it upped the tension, when one of my ace team was on deaths door I was clenching and when we killed a boss it felt really great as we limped back to the hamlet. DD2 doesn't capture those feelings at all. When a character dies or you wipe on a boss it doesn't matter all you lose is the hour or so you spent on that run, you just choose the same team and run it again until you win. This is DD2s biggest flaw.


That said on its own merits this game is still very enjoyable and worth picking up if your a fan of DD1, roguelikes or getting your nuts kicked in

Some Pros:
⚫Great visuals, now in 3D with actual animations
⚫Great sounds and narration as expected
⚫Combat is really deep, especially compared the the first game. The token system is great
⚫Good amount on content to get though and will take many many runs if you wanna unlock everything
⚫Characters permanently unlock skills by visiting a shrine and learning about their backstories which is cool
⚫Most of the bosses are well designed although a few have gimmicks designed to party wipe you when going in blind (if you know you know) that kinda sucks

Some ♥♥♥♥:
⚫Enemy diversity feels off in that no matter which route you take most of the mobs you fight will be the same: bandits on the roads, cultists in the ramparts and spiders/worms in the lairs. With the more interesting mobs only being fought at specific nodes
⚫The relationship system doesn't feel impactful and functions more as a win-harder or lose-harder depending on how much whiskey you have
⚫No shieldbreaker (She's my girl)
