I beat the dlc pre nerf get good scrubs

update:

shadow of the erdtree is awesome BUT it comes with it's own set of performance issues and a lot of the spells on release were borderline useless (most have been reworked to actually be decent) and some of the boss hitboxes were janky as all get out (golden hippo, since been patched), commander gaius is still messed up though

there STILL isn't a fix for the auto levelling camera and there probably never will be at this point so I can never give fromsoft games a 10/10 for this reason alone

final boss of the DLC has a jutsu which just lags the game for no reason other than to try and kill you but he is a super cute femboy so who wouldn't wanna serve him? ;)

final boss took me about 4 hours to finally beat for the first time with no cheese strats and a non optimized build, the cross slice is still garbage and is the only move I think needs a nerf

As for the DLC overall they did some things really well and totally dropped the ball on other things, no holy lightning spear that radagon uses on you? no licky tongue spell that the black knight has? and the bosses still have way cooler movesets than you will ever, right now I would pretty heartily recommend getting shadow of the erdtree after the past few patches fixed some of the more egregious things

capcom cannot be trusted to fully deliver on the potential dragon's dogma has, they couldn't with the first game but made up for a lot of that with the dark arisen DLC

dragon's dogma 2 however removes so much that the first game had so let's start with the stripped down crafting system

I can't make spicy mushroom tea anymore? in fact mushrooms just don't exist

can't make wine with grapes and apples anymore

can't upgrade your greenwarish

no throwblast type items to send those nasty bandits flying

no throwing knives to stun the bandits to the ground

now let's move on to armor and weapons, almost all the best armor and weapon can be found...in the shops you just buy them which I feel is just boring, I think the best gear should be a reward for beating a tough monster in it's lair or something not a thing you can just buy

they also removed TWO armor customization slots and itsuno's reasoning for this can be found in an interview which I will post a relevant section from now

"Itsuno: So for Dragon’s Dogma 2, we changed the armor system and simplified it with the goal that people choose different things to have more visual variety. We wanted to balance it in a way so that people wouldn’t end up always choosing the same things. "

so they REMOVED armor slots which gives you less variety and expression so that you can have...more variety? makes no sense at all

combat time, the combat is mostly good however it's not all sunshine and roses, the first game gave you SIX skill slots to play around with...bet you can't guess what they did here? yeah they removed TWO of them, awesome.

there are also a few forced romantic scenes which is something that may or may not make you feel uncomfortable, either way it's in there.

performance wise the game is an absolute mess with consoles aiming for a laughable 30fps in this day and age and PC players being lucky if they get 60fps even with dlss ON, I don't know what's wrong with the game internally that the performance has to be THIS BAD but something is clearly amiss

I want capcom to love this series as much as I do and to fully realize the potential it has but they don't seem to know how, or just don't want to.

don't let the reputation of the known transphobe and holocaust denier deter you from getting this game, the devs of this game did a fantastic job it's the best harry potter game you'll ever play and is also quite inclusive of skin color and gender identity, though there is no pronoun selection so you will always be referred to in a gender neutral way and the minimap can't be locked to the north which is kind of annoying

my favorite part so far is when the red man says "glory a las plagas" and then proceeds to plaga everywhere :D

my least favorite part so far is when a cultist grabs ashley and they speed off with her like a dog that just stole that piece of chicken you dropped on the floor :(

act 3 is a total laggy crashing nightmare and kinda sours the experience at the end also the mods on the steam forum don't do their job properly

edit: act 3 runs better now, I even got better framerate in act 3 than some places in act 2! and i didn't even crash. big patch 7 coming soon to flesh out evil stuff so look forward to that
