I've played a decent amount of RTS games (including most of the command & conquer series, SupCom + Forged Alliance, Warcraft...) and this is definitely my favourite out of them all.

I would compare it most to Supreme Commander, and although you can prpbably already see they are both grand strategy games from the images here are a few more differences:
  • Terraforming. This adds a whole other tactic you can use on the battlefield. It can be used to raise you radars or artillery so they can spot or fire over mountains
  • Easy micro. If SupCom does have similar unit micromanagement shortcuts as this game then they are not as well shown as I do not know about them. Anyway Zero-K lets you line up units simply by dragging your mouse, you can set units to move in a circle while guarding another unit/structure by pressing the guard button and dragging over the target to set the radius to guard them at... Honestly managing units is hardly any hassle at all in this game apart from when they get stuck now and again
  • It's free :)
  • All unit types are available to use in each match (excluding the campaign where you unlock them as you go). This means there are no factions and you are able to use as many or as little different factories as you want in a match.

I would definitely recommend trying out this game if you are into any type of RTS really since its free, but if you like SupCom you will almost definitely like this.

Beautiful and calming little game.

The parkour is quite easy, so you won't get frustrated with any of it, but it is still hard enough to be fun and engaging. The game takes about 20 to 30 minutes to 100% but throughout that time I was really enjoying playing it.

First, I must say that I thought I was going to really like this game, but after multiple matches I started to see the problems with it.

First off I noticed significant lag spikes while playing PVP matches, so obviously I turned all the graphical options down to the minimum, that didn't help. For a game with such simple textures this should not be a problem. This wasn't due to bad internet connecion as it only happened when the screen started to fill up with things such as explosions or other players. This was a big problem in matches as I could not effectively aim.

Secondly the pacing of the game is too fast at times then too slow moments later. There are characters that basically teleport across the screen making them extremely hard to target (the lag spikes weren't helping either). The stamina bar also depletes much too fast, making it very innefective at escaping combat. This leads to the next problem...

Thirdly, the only way you are able to ensure you win a fight is by making sure you start it with more people or more total HP. There are no items you can collect to improve your character further to make them stand any chance of winning a 1v2, once you have all your upgrades you are stuck there and can't improve or change your stats. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if most people aren't able to fully upgrade by the end of the match, but I tend to get there about 2/3 through along with most of the other players which makes the rest of the match basically whoever groups up the most wins.

If the above things are improved on I feel this game could be a very good casual MOBA. It is a lot easier to get into than SMITE or DOTA 2 which have quite steep learning curves. The art style is very nice and the new concepts brought to the game, such as the ability to choose what type of "towers" to build and the fights between the guardians make it a unique one to play.

I didn't play this series in order, I played HL2 first and the following episodes, then I played HL1. Doing this I feel I didn't enjoy HL1 as much as I would have as I already knew the plot and how it would unfold however, that is not saying I didn't extremely enjoy this game, it was great!

I'll make this short and leave you with this:

-If you only want to play for the gameplay I would recommend HL2. The gameplay of HL1 is very good but is just slightly worse than HL2 in my opinion. It is things such as the AI, graphics and fewer bugs that makes HL2 better gameplay-wise and immersion-wise IMO.

-If you want to play for the story as well then I would definitely recommend playing the games in order (where applicable). It means that you get to see how the plot unfolds and you get to play more HL games!

Conclusion
The HL series is an extremely good series. Throughout the games there is always different things happening and new enemies to face so you never get bored. There are some parts where you may be unsure of what to do and will have to search on YouTube or somewhere else, but these are rare. The game is very different to any other sort of shooter I have played and definitely recommend it to people who like any sort of shooter/action games.

There is a reason you have to be connected to the internet...

If you want the answer, you will have to find out yourself.

I didn't know this was a tech demo but I still found it fun to play. Plus the technical stuff was quite interesting.

I just finished episode 1 and love the story so far!

The characters are all really well thought out and distinct, you really start to understand each character, there is a reason behind the way each one behaves and they all intertwine in some way - the developers haven't just done this to add variety.

The most distinct feature about this game is the ability to go back in time. It allows the player to control their future to an extent instead of making you predict or blindly choose an action which you don't know the consequences of. I really like this feature as it allows me to learn more about the characters - when I do something they dislike or love I can go back and choose another action which will give me more knowlede about them. It also means that if you are nosy you can look at something you shouldn't have then rewind to make it seem like it never happend ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) .
You should know that you can rewind quite a long time - of course it isn't going to allow you to rewind to that start of the game but you can go far back enough to change the most resent action you wish to undo.

Overall I rate this game a solid Great/8 and am excited to play the next episodes.

I'll get straight to the good and bad things about this game

The good
+Nice music which goes with the feel of the game
+Good wallpapers given for free for both 4:3 and widescreen
+A guide is available for all levels which tells you what order to place the plants and where, which is useful if you get stuck on a level

The bad
-Animations and art are definitely not as smooth as PvZ
-inconsistency with model changes. Some plants change their look when they become severely damaged, others don't

Summary
If you want a PvZ-like game but don't want to pay ~£5 for PvZ then this game is a good choice and for less than one quarter of the price, it offers more than one quarter of the fun (~_~)

Really though this game is pretty good for the price but if you do want to play a PvZ-like game just buy PvZ.
