I originally played a little bit on mobile and didn't like it, but it's much more enjoyable on PC. There's a lot of obscure resources you need to upgrade weapons and characters, but the bigger screen actually makes it easier to read and figure out what you need to do.

The actual gameplay is enjoyable and somewhat skill-based, although at the start of every combat mission you basically have to check what materia you'll need to equip. The auto-recommended gear usually does NOT help so you have to do this manually, which can be a little annoying.

The story kind of has shortened versions of FF7 and Crisis Core, but also has a new story called The First Soldier which is a prequel to the entire FF7 series. It also has side stories which go over the backstories of the protagonists in FF7. The limited time events also add in some nice side stories and lore. Overall the story is good, but if you're jumping into the FF7 series with this it'll probably be confusing since it'll be constantly jumping through different points in the timeline.

The main annoying issue with this game is the events which use FOMO. You can get limited time skins for free (also by far the easiest way to get any skins), but you'll have to play a lot to get them and they usually only last for a couple weeks. What's worse is that if you want to get through the full story of the events, you'll have to grind a lot so you can actually beat all the bosses, but those events are limited time so it's hard to do. And then I know for at least the Halloween event when it re-ran it didn't include any of the story, so you'll have to find those cutscenes on YouTube.

Overall it's good for a free game, and the microtransactions aren't that annoying because you can get everything for free.
