Wow what a fun game. Some parts are scarier than others but man some parts got me. One of the few games I actually really wanted to 100% (which I did) and getting everything wasn't that hard either with a level select. I can't wait for peaceful mode to release!

Most of my play time isn't recorded since it's offline on the steam deck but this game is incredibly addicting

What was an easy GOTY contender from an amazing dev team, has been tarnished by corporate idiocy. Sure we won the battle of not requiring PSN, but the game is still unavailable in most countries. And no, it's not because of Steam. Sony is the one that has to change regional availability. The fight is far from over but most people still don't realize it.

UPDATED REVIEW (Some of the stuff from the old review still stand): Darktide has had a bumpy road but it's turned out pretty well. Classes actually feel decent with a proper skill tree (even though some classes and trees are clearly better). The game actually functions now. There are next to no crashes or loss of connection anymore. It does take a bit beefier rig to run but can still work fairly well on slightly older rigs. May the Emperor help you if the game isn't on at least an SSD because you will get acquainted with the loading screen texts very fast. Difficulty has been adjusted so now playing as a functioning team is not an option. If you don't stick together, you won't survive. But that's a good thing because that's what the game is meant to do. If you have friends to play with, the amount of fun you will have shoots way up. Definitely recommend now to anyone who likes WH40k or just this style of game.
~7.5/10 it's a great game.

OLD REVIEW: At time of writing, the game is not officially out so keep that in mind. Gripes will probably be fixed/changed

tl;dr at bottom

So far, it's pretty fun. Quite literally the 40k version of Vermintide. The sound track and voice acting is over the top as is fitting for an over the top setting like 40k. As always with these types of games, it's immensely better with friends. Replay-ability is not really there because it's the same few maps and modes. The maps do feel the exact same but like, it's a hive city. How much can you really change? Combat ramps up in difficulty way too fast and there definitely needs to be some balancing with some things to where instead of plain out unfairness and a "well that wasn't fun" to an actual challenge. Weapon play feels strong and powerful until you get to a boss or a stronger enemy. Then it feels like you have a wet noodle and a foam dart gun. Having some more explanation for symbols and mechanics would be nice Graphics are pretty nice. It looks nice on high settings with a beefy build but frames are always tanking even on potato graphics.

tl;dr game is fun and can't beat price tag. Play with friends and have patience with devs. ~5/10

My original review: "It's had a bit of a rough launch but the devs are listening to the community and making fast effort to change what isn't liked. At this rate the game will definitely become truly amazing"

TLDR at bottom

New review: The game doesn't feel like any bit of Halo it had anymore. TTK is too short or too fast depending on what is being used and that's not just the Halo formula I have known since I was a kid. Forcing people to play game modes people don't generally like isn't fun if you want to get cosmetics or feel rewarded. Not to mention tracking progress in challenges and rewards doesn't always work. Just trying to play the game and get rewards feels like a chore. I don't expect things to be super easy, that's not at all what I'm saying. But some of these challenges are just stupid even when they do track progress. I want to love this game. I really do. The campaign was fun. Story could have use a bit more work but I enjoyed it. Granted I haven't read any of the books in close to 10 years which doesn't help but the story for a video game shouldn't have to be understood through books. I tried coming back to this game after uninstalling for a few months and it's still the same mess with some improvements and other new problems.

TLDR: story is a good time. Multiplayer has the ingredients to make Halo but ended up being a mess with the Halo name slapped on to it

!!DISCLAIMER: THIS WAS WRITTEN WHEN ONLY REACH WAS AVAILABLE!!

Did you play Halo growing up? Do you miss the nostalgia? Do you want a perfect recreation? Well you kinda found it. the game feels a little off and some mechanics are a bit broken. Like bloom just doesn't hit things anymore and DMR is just broken being on almost every load out. Also Legendary is much more difficult. Good ol' Plasma Pistol and DMR doesn't work because shields are too strong on higher leveled enemies. But other than that, the game is beautiful and still just as fun. Unlocking armor is a bit different and tied to singular tokens you get every level instead of credits. It's kind of nice honestly. I definitely recommend picking up this game if you love Halo or want to relive some of your childhood/young adult days

Edit: Now that we have gotten to the Halo 4 release, the game is still good but there are still hit reg issues. Also there are issues with competitive play. There were 3 but now down to 2 seasonal challenges require you to reach a certain rank to get gun skins. Now I don't claim to be good at Halo anymore but when most of the competitive games have a DC or someone go AFK, it really doesn't help your rank. But other than that the casual aspect of the game is still fun and as always better with friends. Still recommend it

This game is amazing. The community is amazing. The graphics are beautiful even if you have a potato for a computer. Something you will here from almost anyone that plays this game is that the movement is fantastic. Now it does take some getting use to and you will have problems here and there but it's still great. Getting into this game is a little difficult for the first couple planets but it does really open up. I will warn you, there are only a few mission types which can be overly redundant but still fun especially if you enjoy grinding. Customization is great even if you're like me and can't match colors to save your life. And no, fashion frame is not end game only. If you're looking for story then you're going to be pretty disappointed. You will get little bits here and there over a few missions per planet but there isn't much there. This game is NOT pay to win. You can get everything through just playing the game minus most of the cosmetics. Yes it will take time and some headache but it is worth it. You can still buy the stuff early to skip the grind but that just kind of ruins it. Overall a fantastic game. I'd say 7.5/10 highly above average

I absolutely love this game. It's had me hooked for about 6 months. If you want to pick this game up, I recommend starting with friends. Preferably with ones who have played before. I started with solo play one (Xbox One during I believe season 2 of year 1) and didn't play more than probably 5 hours until I met people to play with (PC) . As with all PVP games you will have a plethora of toxicity, it's unavoidable. It feels almost like a fresh game every time I queue up for a match. After my friend got me into this game, I actually feel comfortable in solo queue which I'm not in any other game.

Performance wise, this game does use a bit more of your hardware. I don't think my graphics card is that great but the game is still beautiful. I do run most things on high settings. Very high settings does take too much power for me sadly. With connection, I don't tend to have problems unless it's on my end such as a storm outside. Sound quality is fairly decent. Sometimes I can't tell if the enemy is above or below me. Sometimes the same with left or right. Maybe it's just my headset even though it's meant for this kind of stuff.

If you aren't sure about the game then wait for free weekend. Or if you have some spare money, get the starter edition. If you don't like it then refund it. Just make sure it's within Steam's guidlines though. Definitely give it a try if you can.

I have this game on Xbox One and have beaten it almost 3 times. Probably my favorite game of all time. Now I know it's one of the easiet games in the franchise but it's still pretty difficult and yadda yadda. Do yourself a favor since this is the PC version, use a controller. It will make your life easier. Or if you want the game on hard mode, use the keyboard and mouse.

I haven't played much of the game, I'm about an hour and a half in but I love it. I do highly recommend using a controller to play this game because keyboard controls are not fun to play with and are actually kind of difficult to use honestly. If you use a PS4 controller like I do, just be warned that the layout in the control scheme is for Xbox. There is some problems that I've had where my controller stops doing most things and I have to resort to my keyboard. Other than that, this game is amazing so far.
