Played a bit, great with friends, the leagues are cool, so far i put no money in the game (200 hours of gameplay), and I can still have loads of fun, alone or with friends, however, i will get some cool stuff from the microtransactions soon, like skins and specialized inventories.
I would recommend using an existing build from the internet, there are thousands, and it really makes you much stronger in the end-game, but you can also just wing it, you can respec you entire character in the endgame. Try it and see for yourself, if you like this style of game, you will most likely love PoE, maybe it will seem to complicated at some points, but still a great experience.

Well, August 2022, after e series of expansions going more and more against the majority of the community feedback, and making the game grindier and less varied in options I gotta update this review, The game is the best in it's class, and probably will remain best in class since there is no real competition for it, but it is currently spiraling down, hopes high that it will get back on track.

November - 2023 - looks good, December expansion on the way, at it usually is a big one at the end of year.
