Is the one year anniversary of this game and is going strong! I love this game, both the gameplay and story, this game deserves to be praise and is perfect because of the anniversary, let’s find out why.

Lore

In a strange new reality set in a steampunk style London England, the world has become much colder for strange reasons nobody knows why. This cause the world to snow everyday which makes people get sick from the cold and cities getting damage from the frost. They had to leave their cities and search of a new place to live up North. You the commander found the only city on Earth and is your job is to keep your citizens alive at all cost. If this sounds like a great plot premise I don’t know what will, because when seeing the cut scenes it is absolutely fantastic! The quality of the cut scene, the atmosphere mix with a beautiful sad orchestra makes this situation tense. Not to mention you have got to survive the cold winter no matter the cost, so that means you have to make hard decisions throughout the game.

There are choke up moments from your citizens adapting their new home you wish you can do better especially some decisions will come back and haunt you. There are several scenarios to play in this game which expands the lore more and gives you more challenges though in my opinion if I have to rank my favorite scenarios they are; New Home, Refugee and Winter home. The Ark I didn’t find it interesting which is rather disappointed since they could have spice things up with conserving the seed life. Once again I have to say, the atmosphere mix with the music they have is fantastic. You do feel the weight of everything that is on your shoulders and trust me the gameplay makes it even harder for you to do the job!

Gameplay

What can I say about the gameplay, it's hard, you are going to have a struggle in the first few days and you wish you want to reset the game which is fine. Start slow and work your way up because collecting resources, upgrading your tech is a slow process especially how the elements is always against you. Not to mention the people which I will admit if you up the difficulty they are so difficult to please which makes the game a bit unfair. Yet, if you know how to manage your city correctly you shouldn’t have a problem. Getting Coal to feed your generator is very important since it heats your entire city.

When I say every decision counts I mean every decision counts. You have to pick your policy and ideology right, not to mention the right tech and people to manage your resources. It can be stressful but is way fun. I have dump in so many hours I sometimes lost track of time. I will have major complaints of the lack of policies in the book of laws and especially ideology they have. Your only two ideology are either Religion side or the Totalitarian side and I wish they have more than two. Not to mention the Adaption rule books where food you only have two options to choose, entertainment is a bit lacking and shift policies are also lacking.

I can think of some policies for the food area like a new type of recipe where you cannibalize the dead but low morale and up discontent. Maybe another idea is make the workers to assist the engineers, makes work faster but productivity is somewhat down. Research tech could use some additional slots to put like one that always frustrate me on every play through is housing space. Make an apartment to fill up more people and upgrade one more slot for outpost. They had done it with one big update so I won’t be surprise if they keep adding more stuff in the future.

Rating

I give it an 9/10 it is still a great game to play but those lack of features I mention pretty bothers me since I keep picking the same policies and does not make me really think about what to choose for my people’s survival. I do appreciate the endless mode and the updates it keeps coming, so I will be very excited when the next big patch is coming so I can keep playing more.

Throughout my childhood and through my young teen years I wasn’t too fond of violent video games. Mainly for my parent’s views on violent videogames and especially the news that brainwashes parents to tell their kids that playing GTA is the equivalent of taking cracked cocaine and turn you into a vicious shooter…how times really change huh?

Now that I am older and much mature on my perspective of video games I can consider Rock Star games as something special to look back on their past work. GTA 3 is my first game to play into the series and sadly while I never played the first two games, I did saw gameplay of the games to at least analyze GTA’s style from a 2D game to a 3D game. Perhaps I may get to play and maybe review it but so far it has really aged a lot and the sky camera view is not very appealing in my opinion. I will warn you this, I may get a little bias on my review only because I have not played the previous GTA games and running this game is hard on my pc, so bugs and features may conflict on the review because I had to put a patch to run on my pc. Of course, I always try to be impartial with my reviews and try to see the best in every game as possible, hope you all enjoy the review.

From Small Time to BIG time

For people who grew up with the first two GTA games on the ps1, I will assume they did enjoy the game with its interesting mature style of the game of stealing cars, picking up a prostitute and shooting down police. I can only assume this is where they are starting to get some attention from the media, but not as impactful as GTA 3 later down in 2001. For me when I see GTA 1-2 it looked more of an indie game because of its simple premise and gameplay compare to other game classics like Super Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot or Metal Gear. This is why those games aren't talked about as much as the 3D counterpart of GTA.

Usually when I hear people talked about their first experience in GTA is usually the third game they get thrilled to bring up their experience (and San Andreas or Vice City but we’ll get there) on playing these classics. For a technical perspective, this was pretty revolutionary given how 3D open world was starting to become popular in video games. From a 2D into a 3D world of Liberty city and the things you can do in, there is quite a breathtaking the old and new fans alike….until the news media shows up and talked about it.

I am surprised they are aware of the stupidity and hypocrisy some people see in their game and can turn it into good satire. Hell they dedicate a whole radio station in the game mocking of America’s culture of their stupidity. They even make fun of the violent video game portion before the news even begin to criticize them! That is what I call a company who are way ahead of the time.

Welcome to Liberty City: Impressions

The city is very impressive for the time, though now the game has age because of the bugs it has; okay texture on buildings, characters/lore, and the gameplay. Though in the first hours I did enjoy the city of Liberty city, I don’t know why but playing it really felt I am living in 2001 the atmosphere is there yet I have never even touched that game when I was young. Cruising around the city is enjoyable while listening to some good radio music is relaxing. Not to mention running down people for LOL and get chased by cops was the most fun experience in the first hours of the game. Unfortunately, that ends here because I will explain later in another section that the gameplay drags my experience down.

The story is not something to consider a classic since the main protagonist Claude is really the emptiest silent protagonist alive and the characters while they are charming they aren’t memorable in my book. Yes, compare the transition to GTA 2 to 3, this is considered a fitting transition to take in new fans while not scaring the old once, heck they even brought back the sky camera view if people are not fond of the third person view. I just think the pacing of the story seems a bit fast since in the beginning you just bail out of jail by your buddies and ten seconds later is “business as usual.”

There isn’t much time to be invested with those characters because you are busy doing missions for them. Sad thing is that they are not to be trusted because one mission you are friends with them, the next they stab you in the back and you stab them in the back in another mission. The funniest part is that Claude’s reaction to all this backstabbing and alliance making he is like “yeah I'm cool with that.” His looks is all I don’t give a hoot as long as I complete my mission. Some characters try to hook up with Claude as if they know him but I’m sitting here like “do I care enough to care?” Oh well, I heard it will improve over the next few installments and this one considers the last “classic” of the first two.

Better catch me Cops!: Gameplay

The gameplay and missions are fun in the first few hours but the game just drags me down with the uphill difficulty which is not my main issue of this game is the lack of fairness it has into completing certain missions. The game has no map or sense of directions you will get easily lost in this big city you are in which I don’t know why sometimes the icons appear to follow but sometimes it doesn’t as if the game just gave up and said: “eh, figure the rest of them out.” Which is a shame because a third of the game is time-trial missions and you are constantly running the clock, getting lost and cops/gangs ram you over. Sure, there are side missions and mini-games to be entertained but the main missions are alright nothing super exciting.

You better pray to get out of the car as soon as possible because there is no mid-air control so you better stop the car now or die. Firing weapons is so frustrating because the pistol and submachine gun you can run, but you are force to station when you get the better weapons so enemies began to easily shoot you!

Gangs automatically go aggressive on you so if you want to go to a section of the map you better pray they don’t shoot you enough to make your vehicle explode immediately after you arrive! Graphics rendering gets delay if you are far away given to the limitation it has but is bad because if you leave your vehicle far away it disappears. Better pray if your special vehicles don’t get destroy because if it did is gone for good. You can’t fly helicopters which cops use them but you can fly a dodo plane which sucks on getting to the air, so don’t try to get it across the ocean because Claude can’t swim.

Buy or Don’t buy?

It has its frustrating moments on the gameplay side and the okay story-line, but for its time it’s alright to look back and appreciate what made the GTA series great. Do I think you should start with this game? Perhaps, only to enjoy what it is and not looked down on it because of the graphics. This is a 6.5 in my book, is not slightly above average but is not very good either in terms of fun. I’m sure when I get to Vice City it will be even more fun but for this, this is considered a successful experiment on Rock Star’s part in making the series mainstream of today.

Food for Thought Review:

This game is pretty fun I won’t lie. It has a simple puzzle mechanic which you have to use actual paper to solve each level. Now, you don’t have to since the blueprints are also on your screen when you press Q, but is part of the fun. I would even say is definitely fun as a family game night to be quite honest. This game is ported from the switch and over there it cost 14.99$ which I think is a bit pricey given how there is only 20 stages to complete. Yes, the puzzles are challenging to complete which takes time, but since there is nothing much else to do in the game besides solving it a good price rate would be around 9.99$-11.99$. Hopefully the price would maybe change here on PC. (edit update) it raised the price :/.

There is a very short story involve in the game in which you are a real estate agent but the twist is that you are also an exorcist trying to cleanse every haunted home to sell it for a good amount of money. You are never given a question as to why you have to do it but you just got to do it for I guess to pay the bills.

Each puzzle is challenging to the next because after the tutorial, puzzle 4-20 it gets really challenging and you can’t proceed more levels until you solve the puzzle. To solve it you have to fully relied on your blue prints for clues/hints and a piece of paper to write down your answers and hints of what words would come together to make a spell. It is very satisfied when you figure it out the word you are supposed to spell and proceed to the next room until you see the ghost you are supposed to exorcist. If you are stump the game can give you a hint but only in visual hints on the blueprint, but I wish I have something of a vocal hint for vocal learning people. Of course, if you are really stump the game essentially just gives you the answer by just linking you to the page of the answer but that’s no fun.

There is a time trial, however; you won’t be penalized severely for not complete the level, like a game over screen. You won’t get the stamps you need but once you know the words to use, you can just breeze through in with no hassle to get your stamps which is not a good challenge. Not even using the no stress mode which puts infinity amount of time is worth it since the actual time trial does not give you a good amount of stress for you to feel worry about not complete the level.

I hope they will add more levels in the future, but for now is a great game for especially with friends and family to have a board game night to play.

Food for Thought Review:

This is a new type of puzzle game I never encountered before. Usually there are puzzle games where you the player gets stuck in a place and you either have a point and click style to solve an area. Or there are games where you have text-adventure base games where the game tells you what available options you have to basically try to solve it. This is the opposite where you tell an Ai (name Wendy) of what she have available options to use. Did it accomplish that goal? Well, not a whole lot but I like the concept.

How the game works is that you need to help Wendy getting out of the puzzle maker’s office, the only communication you have is a phone. You got to guide Wendy of which area she have to go, ask her to take pictures etc. The idea on paper sounds good but the execution needs work, mainly for the input response. How many times did I told Wendy to go to that area, or do something to that object, or try to do anything and she is restricted to certain commands that I have to know and tell her which once are the correct response. Is literally guiding an Ai of Dora the Explorer on how to beat the game and I’m the narrator just pulling my hair as she keeps giving me responses of “huh, what, come again?” as I’m just telling her simple human command!

There are funny moments if you decide to curse her, give her silly commands that sort of things, but that’s it. The rest of the game is all about trial and error of having little information and lots of patience with her. Yes, I said little information because there is no hand holding which I don’t mind except the only information are the pictures of “clues” you ask her to send. Again, telling her to interact with the objects was hard, but trying to solve it was even more difficult because while you can try to solve the puzzle, good luck because trust me I had made little progress because every single thing I got is, “the locks are frozen, I can’t hold that.” I honestly can’t do anything then since is so restrictive of the commands on her and the things I’m supposed to do. I tried to find like an oil can or something but again, good luck trying to ask her if she found it, or interact with it.

This is clearly meant for an adult audience, and given the title of the game I can see is only just the office you have to solve and no other rooms left. I’m sure this game can be complete quickly, but given how little to what to do in that situation was just a frustrated experience I had. Even by taking notes, brain storming ect. This is by far a game that needs to add more input commands and some hints that does not have to be obvious but something to know where to start. Especially, given the price tag of the game in steam, I don’t see why it is 5$ if I saw on play store 0.99$. Is there something I miss that was worth 5$? I don’t know but all I can say is that there are better puzzle games than this, but if you prefer to give it a go, wait either a big price drop or at least the developer made a big update on the game.

I have to be honest, this sequel is not as disappointing as people said in terms of a sequel. Yes, it has problems including the plot I can see it, but the hidden message has come close to second place in terms of telling a dystopian future behind Orwell. Let’s take a look to see what went right and what did people see wrong in this sequel.

Synopsis

You start between the events of the first game where the Bonton Bombing take place. You are another agent working separate from the Bonton Bombing case and you have another case to track one of the Nation’s agent in connection of a journalist that you will follow him later on. Depending if you played the first your old investigator will transfer to the 2nd game and will pair you up to add a bit of continuity. It won’t really add up to anything other than the choices you made from the first transfer to the 2nd.

Gameplay and Issues

I will say right of the bat that 10$ is asking way too much because this one only has three episodes as appose to five in the first. Not to mention there are fewer people that you can investigate other than the same four-five major people to spy on. The gameplay is still fun to spy around but is missing that kick that made the first more memorable. What I mean is that the choices you make in this game are less impactful, especially in Data Chunks 80% you just transfer the information in Orwell while 20% is just useless filler. In the first, you have a dilemma that you feel uncomfortable to share people’s information but you have a choice whether to submit this data to proceed with the story or put another one that proceeds the story.

This time you are more or less forced into being a true heartless agent that do almost everything what Ampleford is asking you; which is your new partner, oh don’t worry I will get to her later. The new influencer is a very interesting new mechanic….if I can use it more in more episodes which you can only use it on the final episode. This new tool acts as a fake news tool where you got to find data chunks so that Ampleford can construct a narrative and you have to send it to the web to cause massive mayhem among the communities. Though you can alter the narrative base on the data chunks you give her, the lateral effects on the ending are pretty much the same two-three endings with some different effects among the characters. I think this should work more in this because it just feels like no matter what you do everybody will be miserable except how much fake news goes shifting the pressure on which character. I think they should work on which narrative is effective enough so that the people can believe the story, or it backfires completely leaving into an opposite effect where fake news at first lead to a bad quarrel, but ended up a solution to the journalist problem, that would be such a surprise.

Other than that, is quite a shorter game than the first, but it can get longer for how much you are stuck which data chunks to proceed which is another problem I had in the game because another mechanic they add is entering passwords. You need to put in new passwords so new information would show up which is a good idea, but sometimes it can lead to frustrating moments like “I don’t see any data chunks did I put in every keyword in the search engine?” Is a nitpick than a big problem but I wish they would add a different color when entering a keyword so you would know you already add this word to enter the password.

Ignorance is Bliss
Analyze the story, may confuse for a first timer Orwell fan

The story I will admire, because it does hit the title of the message on “Ignorance is strength.” The main theme of this game is; deception, manipulation, and obsession. Raban the journalist has been obsessed with destroying the Nation and Praga’s reputation, while Ampleford is obsessed with destroying the reputation of that journalist. You may ask as someone who played the first game, “Why are we focusing on a poor conspiracy theorist journalist vs. how the previous game focus on finding the terrorist on the bomb case?” Because this game is telling the story of how an original “good” tool for tracking terrorist is now focusing on their citizens, most likely in our reality the NSA.

You see, in the first game you are spying civilians that have a connection to the terrorist, regardless of how has the tool being used, by the end, you have saved lives (or not) by using an invasive tool. It had questioned your morals down to a grey area where you keep on thinking of these people you are spying on are good as they say they are and who is the true culprit. Your whole goal for this case is to hunt down the criminals, destroy the lies, and protect the innocent. However, this time is how a corrupt government starts to form. By turning a tool to hunt the innocent, destroy the truth, and protect even the criminals. Think back to what you were asking, “Why are we focusing on this one journalist.”

Because they can, they are paranoid about their goals and in Ampleforth's case is all power in the end. Ampleforth's character fits in this sequel, because while I missed my old charming partner Symes who had his head focus on tracking the terrorist for justice. Ampleford is all about twisting the truth to fit on the Nation’s agenda? How many times no matter if is the truth, a country would not care unless is their version of the truth?

The worse part of all this is that instead of focusing on their citizens base on “assumption” and game theory, they could have focused all their energy on tracking real criminals yet they are letting them get away. This is how this sequel is trying to show and how reality is, especially how the 5 eyes who are supposed to track terrorism now shift more on trading information on common citizens that “may” link to a terrorist. Now, sorry for the loss of track, let’s focus on your new partner.

To be frank my new partner I don’t like her much in a character base, because she is like the 2.0 version of the secretary of security in the first game. She is a clever and cold, but I would like to delve deep into more of her personalities than just another cold character. Like what they did when you find that secret ending on Ampleford no spoiler. In Raban’s case, I wish I also know more about him than just a crazy loon obsesses with his work, hell even his voice sounds villainy if you close your eyes. The twists are good, but I still wish they add at least one more episode to fill in more develop on our characters and play more on the influencer.

Ratings and Promote

This one deserves a 6/10, is missing that spice kick like in the first especially the gameplay, the story could add a 4th one instead of only three, especially for how much is worth. If they are going to make a third one I hope they would consider these improvements and learn from their mistakes, other than that is another good look into what an Orwellian future looks like.

As a side note, I think I want to tell all of you that security and privacy is one of the most important things in our lives. Because of how the world is becoming, how hackers, corporations and the government have meddled in our lives, I think is safe to say that this should be a priority to focus on, by improving your computers. I will share a link to a youtuber that has excellent guides on how to improve your privacy and he explains even more on why privacy is important. I will also include a guide link on which software to get and a basic explanation on how each one works. Good luck!

Food for Thought Review

Is incredible that how I love tabletop Sim, the most absolutely best simulator game I have ever had to purchase in steam. I like to play all sorts of games but the most fun type of genre I always want to try with a bunch of friends is tabletop games. This is perfect because in my area I don’t find a lot of game stores that have tabletop game nights, but with this you can play with anyone, anywhere and anytime!

Not to mention there are all sorts of mods that are unbelievable to have, is incredible how much the modding community is dedicated in this game. Though I will admit I still don’t get why the developers are releasing DLC tabletop games since you can just get it for free in mods, though I’m guessing those are unique games created by them that I’m not sure. Now, that is beside the point is that the developers are always updating this game making the experience 2x as fun.

Honestly, I don’t have much of an issue other than their audio in voice chat sucks so use discord instead. The community is pretty friendly so finding a new people to play is fairly easy as long as you are nice to the host and the guests. I definitely recommend this for those who never played tabletop but wish to try it and those to save money on different tabletop games by having a whole library full of them! Or fooling around with bananas and flip tables that's fine.

Food for Thought Review

This will be my new segment when I have games where I can’t go into deep analyze but still want to put my 2 cents into it. Not too long, not too short, but just right. A food for thought review won’t have a rating system, but I will say if I would recommend or not. I hope you all enjoy!

This game is relaxing, originally is from an android app which I have the feeling it is, the game has a calm atmosphere including the puzzles. The puzzles are somewhat easy but I’m guessing that is the point when you have a meditating game that won’t stress you out. There is a story but very briefly, the main focus is the puzzles which is almost like candy crush. You have to match the picture it shows you and do it within a certain moves. You can place these orbs as many as you want but once you line up then you used up a move.

The music is soothing, the worlds you travel looks interesting, in fact I notice within each world it gets darker and in a dilapidated state. Which I’m guessing it reflects the main character’s “struggle.” The only small problem I have with this game is that you can’t switch the orbs you want if the one you have does not work with the line-up the picture shows. Which it gives off a luck-base system and less than a skill-base puzzle game. It gives you many chances to not fail and it increase the challenge in each world but that is the only problem I have for this game. I still recommend it if you like puzzles and have time to spare.

Imagine if Ralph Bakshi just know how to create a video game and just made one of the most insane looking world he ever come up with, you got Where they cremate the roadkill. A game that base on what I research for this review is this is the third game created by a developer who had successfully launch at kick starter and previous of his games included Middens and Gingiva. Which I heard those two were made in RPG Maker and has a small fan base over those two games. I only briefly looked at the gameplay and is…different to say the least.

The game that keeps getting weirder

This game took me a long time to finish mainly of how bizarre everything is, I can’t exactly explain the story because the plot is the most confusing one there is. I can only say that this game tries to tell us in an abstract setting of this “world” where an unhappy guy named Coolio decide he had enough of his life and decide to kill himself, only to be resurrected by I can assume the devil to do some unfinished business? The story is so hard to follow, I had to look up the wiki to make some sense of it, I get what he is trying to show, and in fact the art style is very eye-appealing because each scene you go has a different stuff that you just keep asking why. Like a mad man artist trying to portray some symbolic meaning into his art work which is exactly what this developer wants to share with us is through its cryptic message and its background art. However, the biggest problem of this game is that this is an RPG and it really acts like it you and it just fails me honestly.

What I mean is that since it wants to play as an RPG you have to go to certain paths to progress through the story, and how you fight through enemies. The problem is that the story itself is so confusing not to mention what is the motivation of its character and the world around him I can’t tell anything what is going on. I can only scrap up the ideas of what is showing us like is telling us about some war is happening, how Coolio’s world was formed, politics and I think it tackled depression. Yet, despite of grasping the ideas around when I pull out my phone which had contacts I thought those were like his friends or something until I realize after I watched a play through is that those are your targets to kill them for making Coolio’s life miserable, but how am I supposed to know that!

Throughout the game it does not hold your hand, half of the time I have to use a walkthrough because the game does not tell you absolutely nothing, despite having your kat phone as a companion through the game by teaching you how to fight, the rest if you want to know how to progress through the story you might as well be talking to a wall because your kat phone won’t help you at all. Oh, and the NPC, you can forget about them getting answers because most of them are just cryptic message after cryptic message they will tell you, as if you are listening to a different language in another world and the only companion that somewhat you understand is your kat phone! Trust me you will get lost a lot in this game and you might as well just wonder around killing almost everything in sight because first the NPC are not important, not even your targets. Secondly, some enemies attack you, some don’t, can’t tell unless they attack you so might as well massacre everyone in sight.

You are supposed to have a bond with Coolio, including how he had a spiritual passage with two other characters that you only played them once and they never returned. I think I should relate him as the average Joe whose life is a dead end and the world is just cruel, but I just don’t feel for him enough, except the part of talking to his wife. There is an antagonist but honestly he is very forgettable, the only antagonist is the world itself because almost everyone wants to kill you which I guess makes sense since I am killing them around towns. Usually in RPG the world tries to have a language that the player can follow even in books like Alice in Wonderland, you can understand the insanity the world is and how the characters talk, but here is like every single scene and dialogue is just word salad that the game wants to act philosophical but it doesn’t know at all of what its main message was. If this just a game removes the RPG element and stick with telling you a story based on visuals alone than I would not critique so harsh on it, but I have to because the gameplay is what I have the most problem in.

Gameplay and the confusing Icons

Firstly, the controls on the keyboard is one of the worse placement for an RPG, because you attack with alt, Z for defense, S for using your items and D for using magic skills and don’t get me started to how to switch gears with W and E. You navigate your eye with the mouse to interact certain objects which all of this just tells me you can’t navigate smoothly with all these key placements. Especially pressing the wrong key so many times even on my windows button. How the hell the key setting isn’t like any other games is beyond me. Fighting is frustrating because sometimes some enemies are very weak but some are so strong that can kill you easily and have overly huge amount of HP which takes forever to kill them. The items are some of the most confusing once to use because half of them the pictures are hard to memorize of what they do, you need to pull out your menu and check what it does. The other half is full of useless stuff that I bought some very expensive loot but it does not do anything. Your stats are so confusing to follow unless you look up the manual in your steam library right where your game is, then it makes more sense. I wish the game has steam overlay, or have an option button to change the control schemes or some set up but I guess not.

I encounter some glitches or errors where some background you clip behind the scenes like you are floating and enemies attack you when dialogue is showing. The game cannot make up its mind for weapons and stats to be super weak or being OP because there is an actual item called break the game and I’m suddenly in god mode. Even there are some exploits I can have infinite amount of coins and bombs which I don’t know if it was on purpose or not.

Conclusion

This game was frustrate to complete, but is one odd ball of a game that I played. Is probably not for me for these types of games, but I still have a good learning experience in the game. Through the art style, the music which I honestly have to say is my most favorite which I want to have the soundtrack of it. The bosses (yes there are bosses) are fun to beat around though it depends if you bump into them. I give it a 4.5/10 it has great potentials but it has problems that it made me frustrated to play and to invest on the main protagonist and its motivations. I hope the developer can improve and maybe make another one of these since this one does show its skills. Other than that if you like this sort of game give it a try, I don't know if it can drop the price on a Christmas sale but I hope so. To me is just one game that I think no person will believe me that I played Where they cremate the road kill

This game initially when I played it I thought I was going to be the reviewer that will give a very unpopular opinion base on the story itself, but boy that ending prove me dead wrong and I’m glad I was wrong. This review will be complicate to explain myself because I want to talk about the story with heavy spoiler but also I want to talk about the gameplay aspects, so I will write two separate sections of the review. One focus more on the gameplay review and a bit of a summary of the lore, while at the end is the heavy spoiler section only for those that play the game! Let’s begin!

Gameplay non-spoiler section

I have to say they did an absolute fantastic job on everything about this game despite how short it was. It was one of the most well polish third-person shooter I have ever played, even if it did felt like I was playing Gears of War, the way it played out was excellent. Even if I had some issues in command response by trying to vault and shuffle through walls which it was the only annoying thing I encountered during my gameplay, but other than that the rest is perfect. Firstly, I want to comment the setting of the game; Dubai. I find it interesting that the story begin in an almost realistic scenario of Dubai where huge sand storm cover almost half the city! I say realistic because I think the developers are way ahead of the time since scientists say that when Global warming will come predicted in 2050, the intense heat and increase sandstorm will make Dubai uninhabitable, that is so ominously scary to think about it!

Which is why you as Delta Force are tasks to evacuate the remaining civilians lead by Protagonist Walker but something during your mission has gone horribly wrong. I will say this game is by far one of the most mature adult game I have ever played, not because of the over used blood or swearing or anything, but the amount of shear imagery of what the game is trying to portray and the horrified graphics of war has become to the civilians and even the soldiers. This I highly recommend to keep an open mind of how you enter the game because there are parts of the game that will make you sick to your stomach which is how actual war is portrayed, it just makes you question things and including how war is by far not as glorious as how propaganda tells you to believe.
The acting of this game is by far the best parts of the game including the cast of characters especially your squad members. The amount of depth of the voices the animations, the music when there are important moments or even when fighting enemies are incredibly in tune with the gameplay, it is absolutely marvelous. Except the lack of multiplayer in this game which I question why it even exist in the first place and did it ever became popular during its first launch of the game. In any case, this game deserves probably a 9/10 game of the year, the only small glaring issues is how lack of the response time on sometimes when I run, vault or shift walls was the only frustrated part, although I don’t know if people had that problem. The story while the best by far there are some things that doesn’t quite click me which is why the 9/10 comes from, but other than that is still a masterpiece to play.

Story Analysis SPOILER WARNING!!
Do you feel like a Hero yet?

I have got to say once again, in the beginning of the chapters I at first was not impress of the story, because of how the game keeps hinting you “you must be the bad guy the bad guy, America is evil and you look like the bad guy.” I swear I thought this is one of those Jingo push force idea that this game tells you by Walkers action “you are baaaad.” My first initials on this whole antagonist story is “oh, is this going to be likeGhost Recon Wild lands where American intervention is bad?” I keep question the stupidity of Walker’s action and the crew’s trust on him. It doesn’t make any sense since the game at first gave you the choice the either save the soldier or the civilians making you think “oh it has choices on the game.” Yet the game does not give me a choice to not use the White Phosphorus weapon which is the worse weapon since Agent Orange since it melts your flesh out, but he used it on the soldiers and that lead to the civilians death. This just angers me further when playing the rest of the game as I keep screaming in my head “why Walker! Why you are being such a stupid villain and pretend to keep on caring to save the civilians!”

Until the ending happen and oh my god that explains almost everything in the game. Walker has hallucinate almost everything happen in Dubai, why? Perhaps the PTSD that has happened around Dubai, the actions around the game made almost no sense to us but made complete sense to him. Even the game made perfect sense of the “illusion” of choice around Walker. You the player are sane enough to try and think about having choices but Walker himself limited the players ability to choose even Adam had said “you didn’t leave us a choice”. Throughout the game you and your crew looked clean and ok, but during those last chapters you and your crew are a complete mess, on cuts, burn marks, and blood on your face, even how aggressive you become when fighting enemies and how the loading screen taunts you of being a hero. The attention to detail is astonishing of the degenerate state of mind of what is happening to Walker.

However, and I hope you will understand that despite how flawless the story is there are some questionable stuff that I have to address it here. The crew’s loyalty to him, again I find it very hard to believe that they still follow his orders especially Lugo, I understand Adam and I know the two questioned his leadership but it should have ended in the water tank mission. At first I thought maybe he imagined his crew and they died during the helicopter crash but I’m not 100% sure. It would be nice that Lugo would disband his squad, came back fighting you and finally he ran away for cover but the civilians remembered what Delta did and try to hang him. This would have made an absolute kick to the teeth of the relationship of your crew, they did a fantastic job on Adam’s part so no change there, I just think they should bring a bit more sense on the tension it brought to the crew and Lugo just finally quit on him making Walker blame on Konrad even more thinking he brainwashed Lugo.

This one is a nitpick but the game tries to trick you into thinking the 33rd are the bad guys, because they were shooting you which made little sense unless Walker shot them first. Then the DJ acts like a crazy madman gunning you down throughout the game, which just questions me who is more insane, Walker or DJ? He taunts you, made jokes about your killings, your motivations, I get he was supposed to be the good guy but honestly I hate him. At first I thought I liked him but he was starting to get so annoying later on in the chapters where his dialogue just sounds so childish and made him look like this is all a game to him. Which is why I laugh when Lugo tricked him into being friendly with him but he just shot him immediately, despite how Adam got mad at him honestly it was very justified on his actions. The DJ keeps saying you are the villain and he is the good guy even though he can’t even try maybe to reason with him but nope, he will assume you are the bad guy and will try to kill you with no other civil methods.

That is about it the last thing I will say It made us think and interpreted the game about the horrors of war, PTSD, chemical warfare and government. The developers even said that this is a parody of COD where you are supposed to be a big hero doing heroic deeds and save the world, but not every missions you complete is a happy one, even the suppose right calls.

I can’t recommend this game because of what people already said so far but I will elaborate in a moment. When I first play a civilization game it was the 5th and base on my hours compare to 6th I had a blast playing it, what went wrong? Why did I decide that this game is not for your wish list this year? Well I’ll tell you all about this game, both good and bad.

Rise from Civilization
Before I played the series I myself love all about historic events, humanitarian involvement etc. but when I first heard the game it was from Angry Joe’s review and I got hooked on the game. The hours progressing your technology through different eras, role playing famous historic characters and plan your strategy if you want to wage war or be a world political leader, that is what I was hoping for when the 6th came out and the first hours were great…but then it just collapse like the Byzantine Empire!

What I mean is that as much as they have good ideas implement civilization 6th like the aggressive barbarian army, the beautiful music, so many civ leaders you can choose from, but the highlight of the game is districts. This changes a lot in past civ games because you usually just protect your cities and that’s all but now you got to manage your districts and how to preserve them, not to mention keeping people happy from each city! That is so great, but the biggest down fall is you know what is coming.

Fall of Dumb AI

Granted civ 5’s Ai is not the greatest but somehow the 6th made it worse because of a system the developers thought it was “engaging” by having different leaders have different agendas that match their personality, on paper it could work but man the Ai can be the most over reacted bunch of babies out there. If you start one war with another, the leader will hate you forever throughout the game. The Ai will betrayed you for no reason and it will blame you by saying “you have not build seaports enough” even though you have like ten of them and he has about twelve. Diplomacy is nearly impossible to please them in mid game because no matter if you try to befriend them eventually one tiny stupid moment they will turn on you and just hate you for no apparent reason!

This not only makes trading resources harder, but war has become so boring. While managing your army is great and all, attacking just felt like a chore because your citizen’s happiness will go down no matter how much you try to keep them happy which I notice there are little happiness buildings in this game, conquering takes longer due to not only managing your citizen's happiness, but the AI have one goal and is to send settlers to expand no matter how little land or impractical their "strategy" goes. Is like I'm dealing with playing with bugs both computer and biological sense because they just breed and multiply with no end! Oh and please don't get me started with how the Ai fight, it is so pathetically bad. For example in my play through I was playing as China and I have America next door, I did not have a strong army in fact I was behind on tech, the only protection I have is a few archers, two knights, one warrior and my great wall, while America have muskets. One day they decide to attack me for expansion (how ironic) since they are focusing on war conquest I thought I was done for, but then to my surprise they don’t send their whole army or try to strategize to surround my archers or anything, they just send one by one in one linear path with their muskets while I keep shelling them with arrows behind my wall. Somehow I won the war after thirteen turns because the stupid Ai can’t come up with a better way to beat me by just mow me down oh no, it just send one at a time, or in fact go around the wall because I didn’t exactly finish building the wall completely yet I somehow won, on a king difficulty which the AI of course have more resources than me, oh my god.

Conclusion

I heard about the new expansion coming up and I just don’t feel like to buy it, as long as they don’t fix the Ai the game just feels drag and tedious both peaceful and in war of all things that made it so boring. I’ll give it a 4/10, great ideas but terrible executions.
