After almost 50 attempts, I cannot make it more than 16% into the first level. This game is not for me. But, in that tiny amount of game play, I can easily see why this is such a cult classic.

It's a kind of endless runner/precision platformer with a charming minimalist look and the promise of some killer tunes. There is a lot to like here, because there is a fair bit on offer, considering what it is at the end of the day. My problem seems to be the controls are a bit too sensitive. It's far too easy to bunny hop when I only wanted to do one jump, and I wasn't kidding about the precision aspect of it. This game I can easily tell will be all about memorization and timing. It's super old school in that way.

If that sounds appealing to you, check it out.

This is a hard one to pin down how I feel about it.

I played through it twice, and have 7 out of 50 achievements. So, there is plenty more story I've not seen. But at least for now, what I have seen I think is enough for me. It's odd, because it's not terribly well written or interesting, yet I did find it pretty charming and it drew me in enough that I did do two play throughs back to back. There are stories within stories, and they all reflect on each other, while hinting on having something deeper to say, yet not really saying much of anything.

The developer has a few other free titles, and several that are not free. Because this one is free, I think I can confidently say check it out, see if it grabs your attention in a weird, hard to explain why like it did mine.

Normally retails for a buck, currently 70 cents.

This is the coolest acid trip I ever took. Ok, I cat back that up, I've eaten plenty of shrooms, never took acid. (See what I did there?)

It's a unique minimalist platformer with stellar music and an important lesson to teach: Orange is bad!

But in all seriousness, I've really enjoyed my time with the game. I'm nearly done now, I'm on 9-7, just a few more to go. I saw some reviews complaining that the game becomes daunting toward the end. That has not been my experience. As you near the end it starts taking some of the tools it's given you away, and to me, that brought back a little something it was missing. It's good, and for the price point it's low risk so try it out.

First, this is not a "visual novel" it's a "kinetic novel". The difference being in a visual novel there are choices that in theory will effect the story. Whereas a kinetic novel is more like a short story or comic book where you get no choices, you're just along for the ride.

This however, is very well done, especially for a free title. Is it the best written story ever? No, but it's good and I found it compelling. Is it the best art ever? No, but it's decent enough, and I personally like it fair amount. Is the voice acting the best? No, and while it's not fully voice acted, there is a surprising amount of spoken lines for a free title. And while not "the best" it's pretty good. It's on par with many dubbed anime I've seen, especially those of the mid 90s to the early 2000s where the voice acting in dubs started to improve a lot compared to what proceeded it. The music is pretty well done.

A patriotic man rises in the ranks in an elite unit within the army of the of his kingdom. At some point he is forced to realization that they are not heroes protecting innocence and the kingdom, they are blood thirsty thugs spreading chaos and misery. He flees from evil he has facilitated and adopts one of the victims of his former life. Now he tries to be the hero he always wanted to be, trying to rebuild and bring renewed hope to people with little to hope for.

It's very good, especially considering it's a free title, so check it out.

This was either the first or second game I bought on Steam. I've sunk many hours into it and have never completed a successful run.

Looks like it's going to be on 70% discount for the next week (making it a 3 dollar holler) . It's a management sim where you have to train up a princess in the ways of war, political intrigue, history, magic, music, and more in order to prepare her to take her place on the throne.

But, you don't really need to worry about it, because she's never going to make it to her coronation because she's going to die. So many times. So many deaths. Over and over. Death, is the name of the game.

I believe in garbage theory.

Ok, I feel compelled to bring the review I left on my social media here, not just leave it as a joke.

This is a deep philosophical exploration of Garbage Theory.

Ok, that's not so. To be fair, my steam review simply reads "I believe in garbage theory"

No, what this is is a super cute retro title that is doing it's very best to emulate a true original game boy experience. It's pretty simple and pretty easy, thought if if you want all the achievements, I don't think that's going to be easy. My play through was only about 45 min, but for two bucks, I say it's worth it.

I un-ironically love the background music. This is strangely satisfying.

Even still, get it on discount

OK, SO I'M CHANGING MY REVIEW, BECAUSE THEY TOTALLY CHANGED THE GAME. THEY'VE BEEN MAKING MINOR CHANGES TO THE GAME OVER TIME THAT I DID NOT THINK WERE GREAT, BUT I DIDN'T SEE THEM AS BAD ENOUGH TO MAKE ME CHANGE MY REVIEW, BUT AFTER THE LAST UPDATE, IT'S NOT EVEN THE SAME GAME NOW. IF I HAD PLAYED A DEMO OF THIS GAME, I'D HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO PICK IT UP. I'M LOSING 7 LIKES ON THIS REVIEW TO CHANGE IT, BUT IT MUST BE DONE, I'LL LEAVE THE ORIGINAL REVIEW UNDER THIS SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT IT ONCE WAS.

It's just a time waster folks, and it's only 2 bucks.

ReEDIT: Ok, so some final thoughts now that I've basically completed the game. I have three achievements left to unlock, but really it's only two as one of the three seems to be bugged and the developer said it should be fixed in the next build. I'll leave my original first impression up as I'm going to be kind of building off that and correcting it.

Yes, there are micro-transactions in this game, but as another review put it, they are just kind of there. They are totally not needed UNLESS YOU WANT TO 100% THE GAME. ONE OF THE ACHEIVMENTS DOES REQUIRE YOU DROP A LITTLE COIN! YOU CAN NOT MAX OUT YOUR NET WITH SAND DOLLARS, YOU MUST GIVE THEM 8 PEARLS. IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT 100%, OR IF YOU DON'T MIND GIVING THEM A FEW MORE DOLLARS, THE REST OF THS STILL APPLIES. Once you hit level 15ish, I can't imagine you'll ever be held back from playing the slots as much as you want, and even if you do somehow run out of stamina, you've have gotten so much free water from playing the slots by then it will be a non issue. Kind of the same for the fashion tickets for rerolls in the shop, you can hold up to 5, you earn one for every hour of game play, and you can get them on the slot machine too. The pearls (premium currency) really are just there if you feel like giving the developer a little extra jingle. I unlocked all but two achievements without spending a single extra penny..

What I said about outfits was incorrect. They do not help build relationship score. They do two things. They increase your stamina regen, and they just add flavor. Well, and one of the achievements is centered on them, the one that I've earned but isn't unlocked yet. I also wanted to correct one other thing I said. I said you don't really want to sell your gems for sand dollars, and that's not true. In the early game you probably don't want to do that, but once you get a fat stock pile of them, that's actually going to be your main source of income. And while your selling them and the board repopulates, you will still earn a little dust here and there when they just randomly populate in sets, and when those moving makes more sets. The board resolves before it clears and gives you sand dollars. Which does mean you can eventually get to a point where you don't even need to play the match 3 to earn gifts for the girls. That's a flaw in my opinion, but it's a rather minor one, and not worth complaining much about in a $2 dollar game.

Other than that, my original review stands

Actually, I only have one achievement to get now, and the dev did reply to me calling them out about putting an achievement behind a paywall, they said they are removing it next patch.

EDIT: I didn't notice the micro transactions at first, but they are there. They don't bother me though because they are not shoved in your face, and I feel like I'm making fair progress without them so they don't bother me.

I like the music well enough, and I really dig the style of art. There are some story elements, but they are pretty weak and not what you’re really here for. You [should] be here for 3 primary reasons.

A slot machine game
A match 3 game
AND some pretty good art of some girls & mermaids

Now, if you played the demo, this is basically the same, but not. The demo was missing a shop element that you get pretty much right away in this game. Basically, you can buy things to help you out if you are trying to do particular things. There is a waiting element to this game that can be bypassed through the shop (it's an in-game shop, no real-world money for anything I engaged with, but I admit I've not engaged with it much yet)

The biggest difference is the demo was just a little ecchi, but this goes into some full blown henti pretty quickly. I'm sure there will be more as I progress. But what is there to progress you may ask in such a game? Let me explain the meat and potatoes to you.

The slot machine is where the magic really happens. What it represents is you casting out a net and you earn experience and gems if you roll well on it. It's mostly luck, but like in the Super Mario 2 or 3, you can kind of manipulate it by timing your button presses to stop the slots, but it's still going to mostly come down to chance. That's where the shop element I brought up comes in, as well as the waiting aspect. You have stamina that you will run out of after playing the slots so many times, it recharges slowly on its own, but you can earn and/or buy water to refill it instantly. You can also buy bait that will increase your odds of getting particular-colored gems. As you play the slots and actually get bonus for good rolls, you'll increase you level and stamina.

When you've had enough of the slots or run out of stamina, you go to your "gem box" and that's the match three portion of the game. The gems You've been collecting are laid out for you and you can only move one by one space, and only if it will complete a set of three or more. Doing so will earn you dust that you can use to craft gifts. If you get stuck, you can "sell your gems" and you get some small amount of another currency, and it gives you a fresh board to play the match three on. As you level up, you unlock girls, and that's where the gifts come in. you craft the gifts to give to the girls to improve your relationship score with them Which I assume will eventually unlock more art and henti scenes.

Gifts are not the only tool in your arsenal however. You can also buy the girls outfits that can give you bonuses along with increasing your relationship score. Those are bought with the other currency I brought up you get for selling your gems when you are stuck on the match 3 game board (they are called sand dollars, and you don't really want to sell you gems for them, you want to earn that as bonuses for good rolls on the slots)

for just being a simple time waster, it's actually got a lot of moving parts to it. It's a lot more involved and in-depth than you'd expect a lewd time waster to be. It's not going to be everybody's cup of tea. But if you find the art eye catching, like the idea of a dual slot machine and match three game and are fully aware it's a naughty game, then I say there are worse ways to spend two dollars.

They've made objective improvement compared to the first game. They've added more elements and this is more of a game where as the first one was basically just an interactive art piece. And somehow, I like it less.

But, getting it on sale may still be worth it, especially if you did enjoy the first one, if only for completeness sake.
