The game had a very good launch !
For two years, every update brought its share of small improvements: simple yet effective gameplay, intuitive and functional puzzles, somewhat uneven graphics from one level to another but still decent overall, and despite all this, a great atmosphere. For 6.99€, the game entertains you for a few hours.

Then came the 0.5 update, which RUINED EVERYTHING. The game no longer feels the same. Some (good) levels and entities were outright removed. New levels were added, but they are either very short or WAY too long, boring, and sometimes empty, with completely incoherent game design.
Good original ideas end up ruined by an update that makes this game generic, as the "new levels" are just pale imitations of what other Backrooms games have already done (and better moreover).

The puzzles can only be solved after realizing you need to set them aside and solve many others first, which makes you forget why you started in the first place. Then you get lost in levels where everything looks the same. Sure, it’s a Backrooms game, but compared to the levels released before this update, there are no clues, no direction, no logic.

Not to mention the bugs that ruin gameplay, like when your character refuses to jump when you press the key, or when entities keep spawn-killing you over and over. These are basic mistakes that are fixable, and I hope they will be.

Concerning the 0.5 update, it just feels like it was made by different developers, as all of its content clashes with the rest of the game.

To conclude, the game was good, but since 0.5, it’s no longer worth recommending. There are other Backrooms games that do the same thing, or even better, with a more polished atmosphere, cleaner graphics, and above all, less clunky gameplay.

Here’s hoping for a saving update...
