They're Not Bugs They're Features: An ARMA Review Essay
-After well over a decade of playing the ARMA franchise I can safely say that ARMA 3 is an amazing successor to ARMA 2. I've been playing ARMA since the early DayZ mod era, and immediately grabbed 3 pretty soon after release. I soon found myself disappointed in the game however as my PC ran the game like garbage (it was a lackluster rig to be fair) and a lack of mods similar to DayZ at this point made me head back to ARMA 2, feeling kinda cheated out of 60 bucks. This experience almost made me leave a negative review, but not quite. Flash forwards to the release of the still popular (yet no longer supported, team moved on) Exile mod. My dad and I, best friend, and cousin all picked up the game again and fell in love with Exile. While its a different experience it still delivers a good survival experience, along with being very modular. The forums were alive and active, with loads of people creating scripts, map additions and just their own servers (myself included). The community could be toxic, as it can still be now but hey its online gaming.
The Server Hosting Experience-
-My cousin and I had hosted ARMA servers for KOTH, Domination, and AI missions. So heading over to Exile wasn't horrible, the servers can be touchy as ARMA can be but they didn't cause us too much trouble. The community we built was awesome, my dad had his own servers and most of our players hopped in between the offerings. To get to the point, this game helped build some great communities, brought people together and changed the face of "milsims" (I use that term lightly here, some might get salty).
The Bu...I mean Features-
Yeah this game is a buggy mess, modding it heavily like we did doesn't really help much. BUT, it still stands up graphically (if you can run it, this game isn't efficient whatsoever and doesn't utilize resources properly). It also can be a real pain to get working at times.
Conclusion-
This game is one of the GOATs, and if you can get over some of Bohemia's recent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Its an amazing experience.

In my oppinion this game is horrible, yes it may say that is free to play, but its not, to even hunt anything worthwhile you have have to pay money, and not only pay money, you have to subscribe to it and pay for it monthly. This game is absoulute crap.

(Talking about Dayz only) Where do I start, I have been playing this game since 2013 and I have to say its one of my favorite game of all time. You crank the settings up to ultra and this game is beautiful. The gameplay is just perfect, it has the right survivor feel and there so many different maps and game types. It has that beautiful Arma combat system and that non millitary survival situation atmosphere. Plus this game is great with friends. Its just perfect. This was just the best buy ever!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh man do I have something to say about this game, now soon to be two games. Number one ITS NOT GOING TO BE FREE TO PLAY EVER! Money theving SOBs, I mean seriously youve got to be kidding me. Number two how can this thing even be a survival game you spawn in and ARE instantally met with HORRRRRID zombies and a even worse community of Russian hackers (Dont worry my Russian friends I love ya :D) or spoiled 12 year olds with horrid computers. I cant belive this is even considered a game! The pay to win....dont even get me started.... this game I mean games is the worst purchase of my life, I would rather play Call of Duty Ghosts.

This is such a good game. Garry Newman I love you for making this game. My first experience in garys mod was a friend throwing a prop at my face and I have loved it ever since. Just look at my hrs :)

OHHH MY GOD! DO I HAVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS HORRID PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!! The development cycle has been ridiculous, 4 years in alpha! IVE MOVED 3 TIMES IN THAT TIME!!!! Its more than the American side of the Second World War!!!! The performance ohhh Jessssus, that is so rediculous! I have a AMD FX-6300 overclocked to 4.7 Ghz and a GTX 960 Ti FTW AC2+ along with 8 gigs of DDR3 Hyper X Fury RAM overclocked to 2500 MHZ and this game doesnt get a hair over 20 FPS. What a piece of garbage, I see why Dean Hall left, this game makes COD Ghosts and SUICIDE viable options. Good day to you all and may this game burn in Development H**L

2022 Edit: Wow, I def went hard at this game, and I still feel for good reason at the time, though it was pretty callous and brutal. But, as we age perspectives shift and while I do think the game has issues with development time, weird "fixes" to things most of the community could give a rats ass about, and the huge reliance on the mod community itself to get the game to its current state. That being said, the modded servers have brought back the love my homies and I have had for DayZ since the days (pun intended) of the ARMA II mod. So, I can humbly say I change my review from an overwhelmingly negative, to an overall positive review and I look forward to see how Bohemia, and the modding community take the game forward.

This is a great game....if you are looking for intense competitive play and a all around good time!!!

(Edited) After some long consideration and some life contemplation I have decided to write a much better review! This game and Oblivion LITERALLY changed my view on RPGS, I used to play A LOT of FPS and then I decided to pick up Oblivion, played it for a few hours, and didnt like it. Now granted that was WAY after it was out, then I started to play this game AND GOT HOOKED ON THE ELDER SCROLLS. Im such a lore junkie now and Ive played so many different characters on both PC AND CONSOLE in both games. IF YOU WANT TO BECOME HOOKED ON RPG'S PLAY THIS GAME. I PLAY SO MANY RPG'S NOW THANKS TO THIS GAME. Thanks Bethesda for making me rethink my life and good day ladies and gents!
