This game had me crying regularly by the halfway point of the game and I was bawling for an hour after the ending.

Game somehow has all my favourite indie game clichés.

Sick beats, appropriate difficulty, cool lore, rewarding gameplay.

I want to like this game, but can't help feeling that it's quite redundant.

You play as a weird amalgamation of the biblical Adam and Camus' version of Sisyphus, and are condemned to do floaty, uncomfortable first-person-platforming carrying not a boulder, but a sandstone brick. This, incidentally, removes all challenge or opportunities for fun mechanics from the game, because the whole idea behind the story of Sisyphus was that his boulder keeps rolling downhill, which I think could have had fun and thematically-appropriate gameplay ramifications if the developers actually gave a ♥♥♥♥. Think of games like Getting Over It for comparison.

The only challenge in this game is that if you manage to drop your brick entirely, the game kicks you back to the first level regardless of your progress. A message from the devs reminds you that this is the intended creative vision, but I can't help but feel like this is padding to avoid Steam's 90-minute-refund-policy, especially because there is nothing new to see upon these repeat attempts and the game employs deliberately slow text boxes, fade-outs, moving platforms, etc.

The visuals are nothing to write home about either; flat-textured geometric landscapes, caleidoscope skyboxes and what I assume are pre-existing assets aren't really pleasing to the eyes, not to mention the overindulgent use of post-processing effects. Despite all of this, I still managed to find a staircase with clipping issues.

The "story" of this game, argueably it's main selling point, consists of scattered quotes from the Bible and Albert Camus's "Myth Of Sisyphus". With a little over an hour of playtime and maybe one page worth of quotes that you get to read in-game, you're probably better off watching a YouTube video about Camus or just reading the Myth Of Sisyphos for free.

I really want to like this game, because I love the idea and the sprites, artwork, music, animations, etc. are all great, but as someone who plays a lot of shooters and has made some maps in DOOM Builder myself, I'd be lying if I didn't say that the level design and execution is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ raw.

The map geometry is basic to the point it's kind of ugly, and it doesn't help that some objects are missing collision, there's holes in the maps, sprites and map geometry are visibly misaligned and so on. I feel like this is all stuff that either the developer or friends playtesting the mod should have noticed and that should've been fixed before putting this out for money.

The game is also really short. Most levels can be beaten in less than 3 minutes, and in total I only had around 40 minutes of playtime. Maybe if there were more levels based on other Touhou games and the existing ones were more polished, I could recommend this game, but as it is now it would be insulting to other DOOM modders and game devs to say paying 7€ for this is justified.

I won't refund this game immediately, in the hopes that the dev keeps working on this soon, but I want this game to be better and I hope the dev wants so too.

Will write a more detailled review in the future, in the meantime just let me tell you that people who hate this game because they got destroyed are wimps and that this game is pretty good.

Planescape: Torment is an RPG - developed by Black Isle Studios of Fallout and Baldur's Gate fame - set in the D&D-campaign-setting of Planescape.

It's hard to describe what makes Planescape: Torment special without giving away some of the greatest moments in the game. If the game's tagline "What changes the nature of a man?" is the kind of thing that makes you curious, do yourself a favor and go in blind before looking for videos or articles about the game's life lessons. The game consistently presents you with unexpected scenarios and right from the early game NPCs will share their philosophical ideas with you as part of the factions they represent. And besides the great setpieces and awesome characters, the game's detective-mystery plot is enticing and not just a chase after some McGuffin.

If you want to know some things about the game from a gameplay perspective: It is an isometric RPG with D&D-inspired dice roll combat, which can be grating for newcomers to the genre, such as myself. However, the game places a much greater focus on dialogue and the dialogue skills often come in handy to avoid fights or get more information out of someone. And if all else fails, the difficulty can be adjusted on the go via the menu.

All in all, you should really just ask yourself whether you're here for a story or not. Because the game will be a lot of reading. Planescape: Torment consistently shows up in lists of the longest videogame scripts, and if the word counts found on Google are to be believed, the game is easily about 130.000 words longer than the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But don't think it will be slow or boring. While I started skipping over some dialogue in the endgame, I only did so because I wanted to see the ending and the big reveals. In the early and mid game, the imaginative writing reads like a good book while being more engaging due to dialogue choices and, well, the game surrounding it. And the sheer amount of content ensures that you'll miss a lot of it, making for great replay value. (For example: I only learned about 3 of 15 factions on my first playthrough where I strictly followed the story and some major story beads are completely optional)

10/10 - If you claim to be a fan of RPGs, you better play this.

Neat add-on. Not too expensive. Nice way of supporting the game beyond it's 99 cent price tag.

While I don't understand the inclusion of every car in this pack, I remember even asking for the "Bunta" on the forums myself, so I assume the other cars were requests as well and it's nice to see them available!

Honestly, Toree 2 is way too short to talk about in a review. It will last you 30 minutes, maybe an hour if you go for completion. But don't think about whether it's worth 80 cents, think about it as if you were just throwing a dollar into an arcade machine. Even then, the return on investment is pretty high compared to an actual arcade.

This is a fun platformer with a lovely personality. Great soundtrack, too.
