This game is absolutely brilliant in many ways. The player is dropped into a mysterious, alien world and has to learn to survive through trial and error. The game truly shines in the moments where you begin to understand, adapt, fight back, and thrive.

However, Rain World is ultimately weighed down by its own pretentiousness. There are too many parts of the game where you are simply stuck at an RNG checkpoint, playing the same life over and over again, waiting for your luck to turn. Getting past these points does not involve knowledge or skill. It simply requires luck, time, and the endless persistence of a gambling addict.

The sad thing is that it wouldn't even be difficult to fix these issues. The problem is that the design philosophy used here is hard=realistic=good without any thought put into why it's hard. If the "hardness" is not a question of skill but rather luck and patience, you don't get good game play.

And to be clear, this is not about removing or in any way paring down the complex AI system. Take, for example, the section with the deer. The player is completely reliant on the deer for passage through much of the farm arrays, but the deer move extremely slowly and won't always stop in the right place, often either leaving you behind in the wrong place or not letting you on at all. Before you know it, you've wasted an hour of your life waiting for virtual deer, all for the glorification of the "realism" of a game that takes place on a made-up alien planet. Bravo. I'm really feeling the "realism".

Simple, but fun. I would love to see a sequel.

This game will make you want to go out into the wilderness and starve to death.

Xen is amazing! Although I noticed a few graphical bugs in some places.

The combat is great. You're constantly teleporting and jumping around while casting spells at your enemies, which makes for really fun gameplay. This isn't one of those games where someone can one-shot you before you even know what's going on.

The issue is the number of people playing right now and a general lack of content so far. I've been watching this game improve for a while and I look forward to more updates.

D&D Lore, great combat system, isn't some pervy Korean MMO. P2W though.
