This is a pretty slick game. It is not as Epic as other space games, but it is fun. Turn based. The game is rather simple on some levels and a little complex on others.

Moving ships is easy - just select the fleet and right click to your destination.

You need to Explore a star system before you can colonize it. Enemy star systems that you conquer you can immediately colonize. To find resources you need to explore a second time, and then activate the resource with an explorer ship which uses up the ship. Once activated resources will increase that area of the star system by one resource.

Battles are hands off. The fleets will 'fight' on the strategic map and you will see the results. There are no graphics for the battles except ship losses.

Handling Colonies and Fleets is really easy because there is a spread sheet type display for both. Also, there is a message sheet every turn. All of these sheets really help the player to handle the Empire.

Diplomacy is simple yet a little involved. First, there is only War and Peace. And why not? Many games have trade and alliances but Galactic Inheritors does not. To declare war you first have to convince your population that the enemy empire is evil. You use Media propoganda to do this over time. It is also possible to stall the other empires this way. So you have to prepare for war as it takes time to move the slider from Peace to War.

Building ships is really neat and novel for this game. You order the ships from one of three military companies that will build them. You can order up to three ships from each company at a time, so a total of nine ships can be building at once. As a company builds ships over time it gains experiance and skill points which can then be spent on improving that company's production. I found this aspect of the game rather neat. (Note: Colony ships and explorers are built at star systems and not by the ship companies.)

Also, there are Empire bonuses you can earn. Net commerce will add funds to the Empire bonus level each turn. Once a new level is reached you can buy an Empire bonus, such as better manuevering ships for the entire Empire. The amount of funds needed to gain a level is based on how many star systems you have.

Ordering ships will lower your net commerce amount. It can go negative with no problems accept = no funds will go toward your Empire bonus level. As a matter of fact the Empire bonus level amount will also go negative and can be 'paid off' once you finish building ships.

Overalll this is a fun game. It is not too in depth and is one of the easier Space 4X games to play. Probably good to pick up on sale. I liked it.

One negative I had was the music would stop playing after a short while. I liked the in game music. So I played a CD instead but had to lower all sound levels in the game or my own music would not repeat. No big deal really.

Sword of the Stars is the greatest Epic star conquest game ever made. The battles are fantastic (although they can run forever as you have to search for that last ship!). I really like the music and voice acting during the battles. The technology tree is awesome.

Never mind my play time = I played for a huge number of hours long before Steam came along with this game.

The random events can be a little harsh, however, so be careful. I especially hate the Star Crusher event as I have never been able to defeat it. It destroys a whole star system.

I really liked this game. My Steam version was a gift although I had the regular copy as well.

This game is Epic. I mean HUGE. You get to design ships, build ships and colonize new worlds. By the way, don't go overboard colonizing too many bad planets early = it costs upkeep to keep poor environment wolrds colonized and takes time to get those worlds better.

There are many different races to play, each with their own star drive types. The Humans are actually the easiest to run for beginners since they use star lanes.

Anyway, I hope you get emitters and ship armor in your tech tree = it makes the game easier. The technology tree is randomized each time you play.

Sword of the Stars 1 is a great game.

This is a really good strategy game. There are many aspects to the game. It runs in monthly turns. Military orders may be given during the turn, as the month passes by. Deploying and moving troops is possible. Of course, during the Council phase which occurs in between turns, military deployments and movement orders may also be given.

The economy aspect of the game is pretty neat. You can do all sorts of economic things. These include increasing your economy (agriculture for provisions, crafts for gold, and conscripts for troop increases), construct special buildings in city districts, change city district types (food, cash, troops), build new districts once city population increases, improve defenses, increase road size (impacts troop movements and city populations). There are a few more things as well, such as building a new Fortress (small city).

Diplomacy is cool. You can improve your rating with another clan, persuade minor Tribes to your side (they give troops in battle or special income or you can even have them join a nearby city, increasing that city's population), give gifts to Clans (makes them friendly for a few months) or Officers (officers improve their loyalty), place a Lord at a castle/fortress, or even marry people to gain loyalty or alliances. If anoth Clan is at 40+ diplomacy you can request troops from them. Neat.

Military battles play out on the strategic map. Optionally if there are enough troops engaged you can control the troops directly, similar to the Totwl War series. Personally I use the strategic battles as I prefer them. When you surround a castle/fortress you need as many troops as that location's defense has in order to lay siege and capture.

A Castle has a larger town than a Fortress fyi.

There are a few more things you can do, such as hire ronin as leaders. This game has many things to do.

Anyway, this is a pretty neat wargame. Good game.

Rome II Total War is a great war game. It has a lot of empire building features. Each province has 2 to 4 cities in them. Each of these cities can build improvements to increase the economy. Money is important, and improvements cost money to build but not to upkeep. Instead, improvement upkeep has two factors for the cost: first is food. As each improvement is levelled up it will cost more food as upkeep. If you run out of food the public happiness drops. The second thing is publec happiness. Some improvements increase food, public happiness and money. Also, improvements unlock new military units. There are a few other things improvements do but those are the main issues. This game has great depth for the improvments as there are multiple buildings that do similar things.

Military might is crucial to winning and expanding. Units have a money upkeep so to build a big army you need more funds. Each army starts with a General (fleets have Admirals) and, depending on how large your Empire is, there is a limit to the number of Armies and Fleets you may have at one time. New military units are unlocked with technology and city improvements. What I like about the unit upgrade system is that you can upgrade units for a cost even outside the province that has the military unit building capability.

Technology is great. There are two areas, military and civil. Military will unlock or improve the units. Civil, of course, gives economic bonuses. Both tech trees are really good.

Of course, Total War has full control of the units in battle. I usually avoid the city engagements and opt to auto fight those due to the crampt city streets, but all of the battles, including sieges, are really cool. Having many high tech legions is great! If you can afford them ...

The diplomacy options are wonderful. Other factions will usually approach you for trade, once you are powerful and have a decent sized empire. Early on trade is hard to acquire because the other kingdoms do not have much to trade, but it can still happen. The game has many small kingdoms at the start, Oh, if you trade with a small kingdom that has only one province that kingdom will have enough forces to start gobbling up its neighbors and become an Empire.

Anyway, Rome II is a great game. Some Total War games have serious design problems. Rome II is one of the better entries for the Total War series. I highly recommend this game.

Decent game for turn based lovers. This is how it plays out:
1. Move your team 1-2 sqaures and set Overwatch and end turn
2. Genestealers are very fast; they close the distance every turn
3. Hopefully your soldier will kill enemies with Overwatch during the Genestealer turn
4. If your soldier misses he might get a melee kill, otherwise he dies
5. Repeat and Rinse

The game is very dark, you can see 3-4 squares in front of your soldiers but that is it. Many times I would go down a corridor only to find a dead end at the last square since it is very dark. After losing on a map you will know the map and what to do better. Overwtach tends to fail rather often and your soldiers die. If you manage to win you get XP and might level up your soldier, or at least train them some.

Game is very slow paced, but interesting. It is sci-fi and Space Hulk after all. The campaigns are varied and each is neat. This game takes a while to play and, as I stated, is very slow paced. On occasion you get to shoot during your turn, but this takes up precious movement points (AP action points).

I may play more of this game in the future, right now I have played about 9 hours. It is very tiresome and grueling however. Overall this is a decent game.

Wow, I have not written a review for this yet? Hmm.

Dominions 4 is a True Fantasy game. The worlds are remind me of the world of Conan. You build armies, attach them to Leaders, and set forth to conquer provinces. Each province will add to your money per turn. Yes, it is Turn Based! YAY! Each faction is Very Different. Each deity can be configured in many different ways. There are spells, but mainly this games is about armies!

Spreading the Word of your chosen pretender deity is important. This can be done with temples you build in a province or by priests. Look out for Assassins! There is a nice small selection of buildings you may build in your provinces.

The AI can be quite a challenge. MASSIVE armies will clash in heated combat! Although you do not control your armies in combat, your pre battle setup is important.

The Thrones of Ascension allow you to capture cool resource areas. You can even win by owning a good number of them.

High Fantasy is awesome in this game. It is a little basic as games go, but this is one of my favorite games.

Star Drive 2. Turn based strategy, real time combat. All of the original races are back along with a new race. Very good game. There Can Be Only One! No alliances here, but you can butter up your neighbors. If they cask to trade for a really good tech, give them something lower and avoid diplomacy penalties by getting a diplomacy bonus! Trade and Non-Agression treaties can buy you time.

This is a game where you need to build colony ships for each colony you want to colonize and there are three population tasks - Food, Industry and Research. You can even move population around.

Food is available across the Empire - provided you have freighters (easy to build). Everything is handled by the game for your freighters. Poor planets give the same amount of money as any other, however, production suffers. Research is great! The larger your Empire the more expensive research is. There are research fields, and you only get one item from the list of three. You can trade or maybe capture the other items.

Races are neat. Each is different with different traits. Racial traits for the playable race can be adjusted. This is Way Nice!

Combat is pretty neat. This game does not have as many ships as Star Ruler 2, both games are very good. There is also ground combat, so bring troops!

The only negative I have is that in the late game things slow down. However, the developer has stated he is working on improvement in this area. That will be good.

Star Drive 2 is a really good game, it is very similar to Master of Orion 2, and I think even better. Do not listen to the negative reviews, Star Drive 2 is a very good space 4x game.

Star Ruler 2 is a really good game. Although it is real time the speed can be slowed down so as to handle things nicely. Colonies level up real well, just connect food + water and maybe some resources and good to go. It is a nice looking game with decent graphics for the small size of the game (600 MB). The technology tree is varied and fun to explore - every tech makes a nice difference. Diplomacy is great! There are cards to play and votes to influence. Ship design is fun and highly recommended to get the best ships built. Watching the battles is a blast!

Global resources include Influence for diplomacy, Energy for artifacts, Money for buying things, and Research for new technologies. There are all slightly different in how they work and are handled very well. There is not a lot of micromanagement in the game, just enough to keep a player busy just right. This is a good game design. The AI is fun to fight.

I have played many space 4x games in the past 30 years and Star Ruler 2 is one of the very best!

This is a good game. The RTS is fun, and gathring recruits (resources) to build units is handled well. The units themselves are quite nice. The turn-based part is cute, as all of the people working for you have things to say. There are Generals, Politicians, an Engineer, a gnarly old Wizard and eventually a Princess to marry. You get to make decisions that have far reaching repercussions.

The graphics are nice and the music is also pretty good. The music changes from turn to turn. The story itself is neat. Most RTS just put you on a map and say 'go conquer'. In Dragon Commander the story is half the fun!

I played on casual my first time through and it was a ton of fun. Flying the Dragon is neat. Pretty good game.

Neat adaptation of a board game. Especially good since the board game costs about five times as much. As a PC game all of the rules are in the program.

This is pretty fun. AI can run some of the characters if you want more of a challenge.

I played Triss in a three quest f\game and it took awhile to figure things out but had a great time. There are tutorials as well. Game looks and playes well.

Since this is based on a board game it playes rather simpistic. The cards are neat and they all have nice information on them. It is also neat that you get to choose from among several cards most of the time. I do not think this is a hard game but it is a bit of a race to score victory points.

Neat game.
