After playing this game for over 30 hours, i firmly believe that steam needs to have a mediocre or 50-50 options instead of just a recommendation of yes or no. This game really is 50-50 for me as it does some stuff right, and alot wrong, but as it stands i don't recommend it.

the good:
so this game has excellent combat and no one can deny that, as all the weapons have a unique look an a satisfying feel to them and there recoil and special abilities/upgrades are cool. the abilities you get from the ark are fun to use and some interesting combinations can be created using them, they help especially on the higher difficulty when enemies can become spongy.the the audio is also very good as the weapons are crisp and explosions are boomy. i guess it helps to have the best fps developers to do your shooting mechanics for you.

the bad:
so the menu layout in this game is just terrible. having to go into sub menus to craft pickups and upgrades every few minutes is really annoying especially at the higher difficulties, along with not being able to batch craft gear when you need it.the graphics are ok, tho mad max and the original rage looked better and had more detailed environments so i'm not sure why it looks worse.

the story is bad because its just another generic sci fi fps with poor writing, you kinda forget what your doing after a while because your just mindlessly clearing map icons to grind xp because your level gated. the story isn't bad because of the politics in it, its just bad because of the poor writing, you can tell its trying to be like borderlands being all edgy.

for an open world game the map design is poor, its vast in area but there isn't really anything to do in it, you don't need all the abilities on low difficulties so that removes the need to look at arks. if you do want to clear some objectives you only to to clear one region on the map to have all the xp required to beat the level gating. from memory i think the end game mission is either level 5 or 10. also the driving mechanics are ok, but that really depends on what vehicle you are in at a time. its horrible to use the bike while the vehicle you use the entire game you get use to it after a while even tho its somewhat floaty.

don't even get me started with having micro transactions and the coin packs in a single player game along with needing a bethesda account to buy the dlc. theses are just bad business decisions plaguing bethesda lately.i wonder when they will decide to stop doing this?

this game would have been much better if the open world mechanics just wasn't in it, just make it a 7 hour linear sci fi fps with the id tech gun mechanics and it would have been a better, tighter product.
