I'd say this is the most fun I've had with a 3D platformer, it's really good :)

I'm not exactly sure what I expected before I played it, but I liked this game a lot more than I expected to and its definitely one of my favorites now. I guess I kinda expected it to be a lower budget imitation of a game like Mario Odyssey, but it does a great job of setting itself apart and is absolutely bursting with more personality than any other game I've played. I feel like a lot of people wanted to compare it to a 3D mario game, and while it definitely seems to borrow some inspiration from them I don't think it makes much sense to compare the 2.

While the art style seemed a bit too simple and cartoony to me at first glance, it really grew on me. It runs generally pretty well for me, and I don't think I had any problems with framerate or stuttering during the base game. For the most part, this game is really bright and colorful and nice to look at. My only complaint here is that the camera doesn't always do what you want it to do, but it isn't too big of an issue since there's a badge that lets you pause and freely move around the camera if you're looking to see if there might be anything hidden in the room with you.

Gameplay is fun! Most of the game isn't very hard, which I think is fine since the penalty for dying can sometimes be pretty annoying since it sends you back to the beginning of the level. The controls feel good, and Hat Kid has a pretty solid set of movement options with double jumps, dives & cancels, and a hookshoot to swing around with. The 4 worlds that come with the game all have a ton to do and are very unique from one another, so nothing in the game really has the chance to get stale. Also the bosses are all REALLY good. Worlds 1-3 all have great bosses at the end that really caught me offguard. Their voice acting is really good and they all bring new mechanics to the table. So yeah, look forward to those.

This game has lots of collectibles too, which is great. You can get rewards from completing certain levels or collecting tokens, and I had a lot of fun changing up Kid's color pallete and hat skins. Small feature that made me very happy. Speaking of collectibles, you collect materials to build your new hats, so its fun whenever you get enough material for a new hat and get to test out all the new interactions it'll have.

While there's a bunch of hats in this game, you usually dont have to heavily rely on them which I actually really liked. The hats never felt super gimmicky, but it's always cool when you have a good chance to use one.

Main thing I love about this game is its writing though. You get to play as some stupid little idiot kid who blows raspberries when she runs past the mafia and I just love it. All the other characters in the game are great too, and just about every level in the game has something to chuckle at.

And if you're wondering about the DLC's, they're alright. The first one brings in the weakest world into the game imo, but it's still worth it and overall enjoyable if you like the game and it's characters. It also bring Death Wish into the game, which is basically just a really annoying challenge mode. The second DLC is a lot better, the world is really cool and I felt it was sort of a better version of world 4.

It's really good.

I've never really gotten into any rogue-likes before this game, but now it's my most played game on Steam so I guess I'm into them now. I played pretty much only this game for around a year and it never really got stale. There's always challenges to work towards that keep it fun, and you usually have something to work towards each run rather than just trying to set a highscore or something. I have this many hours and I still haven't beaten a certain rat in punchout >:(. But yeah between having new goals to work towards all the time in this game, and constantly unlocking new guns, as well as there being a few different characters to play as, each run feels unique and different from the last.

I personally really liked it a lot cuz I could just zone out and just have a good time with it. It isn't really a game that will stick with you or anything, but it's always some good fun.

Also you can pet the dog as the Hunter now. So consider that too

It's good! The 98% positive rating felt seemed excessive during the first bit of the game, especially with the 2 stealth levels, but I really had a lot of fun with this game in the end. The writing and the story is really great, and every bit of dialogue was fun and interesting. I'd say that's where this game is the strongest for sure. The music slaps as well, which is always nice.

I wasn't too impressed with the gameplay at first though. It felt slower than I expected and didn't seem all that deep. Especially in the stealth levels, I felt like the game was starting to become slow and kinda boring cuz you would spend a good amount of time trying to sneak past someone, and if you were spotted you would have to try again and it was mostly a matter of just waiting for them to face away from you. That was only 2 levels though and a very small part of the game so it's fine, just wasn't fun in those moments imo. I definitely had a lot more fun with it after that though. The game starts to introduce more types of enemies after that and new items to test out, and there's just a lot more happening in each level.

It's pretty short and took me a bit under 5 hours to finish, but it's probably fun to go back and replay and has some bonuses you can unlock at the end. And also it's a really good 5 hours. I wasn't always able to follow exactly what was happening with the story, but it was still really cool. Oh yeah and the pixel graphics in this game are pretty sick too. So overall, very good.

I love this game so much. Niko's gotta be my favorite character in any game that I've played. Every single other character in this game is really damn good too.

Probably my favorite thing about this game (aside from Niko ofc) is the atmosphere that it builds. The soundtrack is nice and understated so it's very good to relax to, and that's all i'll really say since I think finding out about the world is part of the fun.

Also this game is meta as hell. I've seen games break the fourth wall before, but this one doesn't even have a fourth wall. If anything, it makes it so that you are inside of that wall with it. It'll even walk straight through that wall just to stare you in the face it's crazy.

Niko really is the best tho. I feel like a lot of games don't put in the care to really flesh out the character you play as, but Niko really does act like his own, perfect person in this. I'll try to keep it at that so I don't start spoiling stuff.

Great game but wow i can't recommend it in this state. If this was just about the game itself, BioShock 2, I'd say its a great game and from what I've been able to see so far and definitely worth a play.

The problem here is that this version crashes like crazy. I haven't been able to play a single session of this game without it crashing and losing a bunch of progress as a result. The obvious was to get around this would be to just save like crazy, which can work to an extent. When I'm worried about losing my progress, I'll save every 10 minutes or so in order to reduce how much I'm set back with each crash. So, best case, you only have to deal with having to reload the game about once every hour and replay the 5 minutes that you lost.

Although I was on guard much of the time, I'd normally forget to spam saves if I had been away from this game for over a week and this is when I'd lose over an hour of progress most of the time. The first 2 times were very annoying, but I would just put the game down for a while and come back to a maybe a week later and slightly less mad.

But now it just did it again after I went another hour without saving and that's enough to irk someone enough to, say, channel their burning hot rage into a very angry steam review and vow never to touch this monstrosity again.

Did I mention that I'm mad? -7.8/10 too much water

Best game I've played in a long time. I didn't even think I would like a 2D style game since everything I play is 3D, but I loved every minute of this one. The soundtrack's amazing, and the visuals were fantastic throughout the entire game. All the animations looked smooth, which is impressive considering all the movement options that you have by the end of the game. You start off the game only with a basic jump, but by the time you get to the end you can literally fly all over the place. Every time I got a new ability while playing this I would get really excited, because each one was actually significant and would open up parts of the map that you would just stare at and wonder what they were for before. I definitely took my time with this game, which I would recommend doing, and I got a little over 9 hours out of it before I finished. It definitely isn't the longest game, but it is a very good one that doesn't have a single dull moment. It's one of those games that I can see myself playing through quite a few times, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is even mildly interested in this.

Also, if you have a controller you will probably want to use it for this, I played it with one and the controls felt amazing.

I'd say this might be one of the best games that I've ever played, which is saying a lot especially for a game that's 10 years old or whatever. The whole idea behind it is really interesting, with Rapture being a weird Atlantis type place and all the plasmids and splicers. The remaster actually worked pretty nicely for me. It only crashed 2 times during my whole playthrough (took me 25 hours, sorry I'm slow). The first time it crashed was pretty bad, since it happened an hour after my autosave. I would advise anyone playing this to get used to saving every 15 minutes or so, it's annoying having to redo an hour worth of the game. I also found the godrays (think that's what they're called) to be a little bit obstructive when trying to look around. I feel like they were generated veerrryyy often and weren't very subtle, kinda throwing me off every so often. Aside from that, I thought the game looked pretty nice and ran very smoothly for me; I didn't have to deal with any of the bugs that I see other people listing. Maybe it just felt like being nice to me for some reason, I dont really know, but this game is great and definitely worth a go.
