The Meet Your Match update, introducing the current matchmaking system, may have made the game lose players but there's nothing wrong with playing community servers. The large variety of custom game modes is what kept me to play for 8000 hours and they're just as fun as they've always been. Try game modes such as deathrun (dr), dodgeball (tfdb), jailbreak (jb), versus saxton hale (vsh) and slender fortress (slender). You may have already played some of these but try them all and if you really like them then you'll probably want to play more TF2 for a long time.
