greetings this is my first steam review, and it will be on a series that i love which is the tales series.
there will be both bad and good, so please read if you will

i myself have played in no order:
symphonia
dawn of a new world
xillia
vesperia (favorite, love repede)
xillia 2
graces f
so i can say ive played a few tales titles and learned what to expect.

When i purchased this game i had high hopes for it as i though back to my pervious adventures and laughs i the previous games from their skits and one liners.

how ever i was actually disappointed in this game, and let me explain why.
the bad
1. you can only view skits from save points.
this was my biggest pet peeve from the game as i tend to skip the save points if i feel like i am going not going to stop, or if i feel like i am near a boss battle, and thus miss out on some of the commentary the party has.

2. the main characters.
i personally really dont remember any of them save for the little sassy edna which was a nice change of pace. the rest of the main cast however felt like... te color gray. they were plain including the main hero of our adventure!
the protag himself is not bad for an rpg, however if your expecting a tales title like i was then he will fall short sadly as he doesnt have much of a personality besides save everyone!

3. the story
the story follows this:
whenever there is a great evil, and danger there needs to be a cleansing= we need a shepard
you become said shepard
you then go around saving everyone by purifying the darkness of where they live
learn you cannot save everyone
be taught what it means to be a shepard
and last boss battle

4. the shop system and art system
my biggest complaint of them all. you remember in other tales games where you go from town to town as the story advances and get better equipment? and that the said equipment comes with skills and artes?
they tossed that out the window and boy are you on your own most of the time because your armor and weapons come from the drops you get from the stuff you fight. and those artes and skills? no idea how you get them (though this may be because the game left a bad impression on me that i didnt care to read into this as much)

5. the combat
this is a minor one. they decided to do open world combat which means in this game if you run into an foe you dont load into an arena shape battle ground. you fight on the spot. now this can suck if your fighting on a hill where attacks can miss if you're too high or low, or if your in a hallway and get mushed you have no way to move around and fight

the good
1. you become the avatar
in battle you can fuse with your elemental partners and gain the power of fire, water, earth, and wind which can add flavor to combat

2. bigger maps
now in this game it has the feel of being more open and big, as the map size has increased for each area

3. final boss battle
it feels slightly emotional. you will know what i mean if you get there

final verdict.
after i finished this game i thought to myself "man that was a chore" i thought it was actually bad, but then some time when by and i thought to myself "i wanna play it again" so it couldnt havr been as bad as i thought.

as an rpg: 7. it was a fun decent game to play if you like anime and enjoy interesting combat with elements and combos, though the story feels a tad weak, but what gives strength to this game is the side quests it offers

as a tales of game: 6.5. lets face it we've all had our fun share of tales games to play however i personally feel that this game was on the lower end of the spectrum

but i will recommend this game as it is slighty above average in a tales sense, and as an rpg sense
