in the beginning. two characters climb up a mountain side and break into an old light house on private property.

one of those characters is too scared to cross a fully built bridge because they are scared of heights.

i stopped playing after that

chnged it to positive, but leaving what sony did

heres what they announced on may 3rd of 2024

Requires mandatory PSN to play as a user with a PSN I do not support this because of several reasons

Their data breaches

PSN isn't available in all of the world

No PSN can't play as always online

changed review to negative on 8/30/24

because the game isnt fun any more imo. the bugs the crashing, the new enemies being brooken, like the tentacles knocking you for 2 minutes.

they released a fire weapon update but nerfed the fire weapons. and now they have a 60 day game plan to fix" things again. they always do this and i am tired of it. i uninstalled it"

if you like rougelikes, exploration, and 3rd person shooting this may be a great play for you
the game has a variety of weapons to play with. each run is something different. 6 biomes to explore and under the surface is a hidden story to discover.

i played it for a total of 25 hours. even tho my playtime is longer that time was spent idling doing other things since its a single player game. i enjoyed it greatly. but it is not a game i would recommend to just anyone. if you like somewhat hard platforming shooters this is up your alley

I can respect the team behind this for making this game and normally for this kind of game I would not make a review of it after 4.5 hours as of this review. i intend to finish this game but instead of enjoyment i am now more cautious and will play it in segments.

the auto battle
it is buggy, normally it wouldn't bother me but its interesting to know that the auto battle seems to prioritize advantages rather than straightforwardness as most auto battle would do, and the AI seems to be rather buggy when perusing that advantage

now the main cause of my negative review

the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mandatory tutorials, specifically the crafting. when you are forced to use the crafting UI for the first time to make the stone cutter and exit. the game would not let me access my inventory, nor, pause, even KB and controller swapping wouldn't fix it. the only way for me to do that was to restart the game. and in doing so since i could not save i had to lose an hour of progress. i cannot in good faith recommend a game like this if the mandatory tutorials prevent you from even accessing the menu and making you lose all your progress up to that point. and this came out in 2021. bugs like this should have been ironed out a while ago

i grew up with the series, the only games i have not played were size matters and secret agent clank
8/10
it is a bit on the shorter side compared to R&C 1-6
there is no mini-games like racing, or a mini-game like the CQ mini-game from R&C 3
the arena in this game is short compared to older entries
there is no space exploration or space combat, would have been fun to fight nefariouses forces in space
the level design in this game was a bit more linear compared to other games
no customizeable ship for ratchet or rivet
no iconic long jump or high jump

but overall this game i feel is a return to form compared to the awful 2016 game on ps4

So I'll be basing this game off of visage which is the best horror game I have played in a long time

Madison looks and feels well polished and even feels inspired by visage itself which isn't a bad thing.

However some parts of the game do fall flat and ruin the pacing of it. The game follows your standard formula complete step 1 to step 4

But when you do say steps 2 or 3

The game kind of freezes. Not itself but the pacing. The puzzles or the lack of direction in the game can cause it to drag and wear it's welcome in some parts and you can lose the horror feel as you get a bit more frustrated with the puzzle itself than the game

However I can say this as a good point. The game made me break out in a cold sweat through various points which I can say is well done

This game is hard. No not like try this for 10 minutes you won't last hard. It is unforgiving worse than dark souls hard.

Enemies on normal kill you fast and easy. If they swarm you you are done. Some have skulls on them which means they are also hard to kill

The worst part of it is. The low level areas will have such huge jump in spikes for quests or random enemies that you don't know what to do.

My save is 10 hours but my actual play time due to all my deaths is much longer.

And you feeling trapped makes the map feel limited and small. I am still with the berserkers as I do not know how to proceed through the insane sequences I find myself in. I hope the sequel is better

even though got this for free i have played vesperia, doNW, xillia 1, 2, zesteria, and berseria so i am familiar and a fan of the series

my girlfriend watched me play it from start to finish. in the beginning she thought i was too hard on it, but by the end even she felt that it was a chore to watch me

the PROS
areas to explore are nice
good graphic update
and character designs are good
combat feels revamped and dynamic

the CONS
the story writting is terrible
combat requires you to constantly tag your members for their abilites and they have a recharge
only kisara can block
weapons and gear do not have skills
some main story pieces and all side quest dialogue has one word sentences
skits feel very6 forced and stiff
terrrible subplot for romance tacked onto the game

the review
the first chapter starts on strong with iron mask, shionne, and zephyr and pulls you in with the amazing story and they go on their quest to liberate dahna. once xxxxx happens in 2nd area the writting becomes lazy and terrible. you get law and rinwell the racist (this part is important) once you get kisara and dohalim it gets better but with every cutscene and skit were rinwell talks it goes lower and lower and lower. she has a "redemption arc" but really its very very poorly done. alphen, kisara, and law could have been a better rinwell. by the 5th chapter the first arc is done as you liberate dahna and with any other tales game you would think it would pick up.

a month passes and everyone is very awkward with each other. you would think after saving the world they world get along better but nope, you then get attacked by giant coral and kill said coral and have to go to space. lenegis. as well as some partial back tracking. once you get to space you learn plot points in a research facility... thats also supposed to have diplomatic records of events as well?

afterwards bam power goes out and after a 5 minute speech power gets on again and everyone goes to the main land of the enemy. rena

once you get to rena you quickly find out arise plays a lot like kingdom hearts. light, dark, light, dark, but why dark?, because light!

i watched a playthrough of OG symphonia. they did it better. and the big reveal on who the big bad is!!!!!!

darkness (hello destiny)

once you fight 2 boss battles, the real boss comes in. thats right, the boss from the 5th chapter in the first half in a comepletely pointless cutscene that should have been skipped.

once you beat him kiss scene and end

i am not sure which tales game is worse. zesteria, or arise. i do not know nor care as i do not have the interest of touching either games again
