I recommend playing the following VN's

Steins;Gate:
Anime is pretty good for this one but the VN is going to capture more detail and depth. Time travel focused, tragic and plays on your emotions quite a bit. One of the most well known VN's, definitely worth the play through (steam vers is dec)

Muv Luv Extra and Muv Luv Alternative:
Slow start series but transitions into likely of the best VN's I've ever read (alternative). World line concept again similar to steins;gate (though predating steins;gate), mechas, soldier/military, tremendous character growth and development in regards to becoming a man, pretty tragic and sad at some parts, bittersweet classics.

Umineko: Also a very famous and well known VN with great story writing. Murder mystery/detective focused and I'm sure fans of ace attorney would enjoy its style. Slow start and requires commitment to get invested like most VN's but absolutely worth your time, all the same with previously mentioned games
