Early Access Review
Still in developement, regular updates are constantly adding new mechanics and gameplay changes. However, this means that you can expect plenty of bugs and poor optimization. Have trouble running this at 60 fps on a decent machine. Still, it is playable enough for an early access game.

The concept of the game itself is brilliant. You crash land into an island inhabited by cannibals, and you(along with anyone else you are playing Co-Op with) are the only survivors. You need to forage the land, gather resources so that you can build up a base and craft tools, while avoiding the cannibals. The cannibals themselves are superhuman mutants capable of finishing you off very fast, and they usually travel in groups, so its best to avoid them until you are well equipped. The atmosphere in this game is brilliant, the forest itself looks gorgeous, and the sound effects are spot on. It is a game where you can marvel at the beauty of a particular spot at daytime, and be terrified at the exact same spot at night when its pitch dark and you can hear cannibals nearby.

My only complain is the lighting effects get a bit too dark during night which makes it almost impossible to see, whereas realistically the moonlight should be sufficient to be able to see to some extent. After a point you venture into caves to find even better loot, and unravel the story further. Overall it is a pretty well done survival experience, and I would recommend you give it a try.

Torchlight II is essentially an embodiment of the generic, loot driven, action RPG. If you were to ask me to specifically point out an area where this game excels, I wouldn't be able to. The Graphics and Storytelling is mediocre at best, it brings nothing new or revolutionary to the table in terms of innovative gameplay, and the soundtrack isn't all that great. However, when you look at the game as a whole, it all seems to fit. There is something immensely satisfying about simultaneously using over a dozen spells, potions and attacks available at your disposal to clear out large hordes of enemies in the game that cannot be described. The devs have gone out of their way to ensure the player's comfort while still keeping the game challenging. The game offers to the player a wide variety of loot from the start of the game, there are convenient hotkeys that can be assigned to take care of every action, there is also a pet, who follows you around, helping out in battle and carrying excess loot. Torchlight II is simply the game I tend to come back to for relaxing, and it has always been a pleasant experience. There is also some pretty good mods for this game, so I would recommend checking those out as well. Peace.

If you are planning on purchasing the game, here are a few things you should know:

This game is almost exclusively multiplayer, though it does contain 10 Single Player scenarios called 'Situations'.
You will have to register on UPlay, and everything ingame will be linked to your UPlay account, NOT your Steam account. You are simply purchasing the product via Steam.
The game has a slight difficulty curve, and several of the tactics and strategies involved, you are expected to learn on your own, since there is very little Single Player content, and you jump straight into Multiplayer.

The game contains in-game microtransactions, for unlocking operators, weapon attachments and in game cosmetics. These can be purchased either using premium R6S credits or Renown earned in-game. The pricing is such that you should be done unlocking your operators and attachments very fast, and the only real grind is for getting cosmetics and DLC operators.
The game has a "Season Pass" system. You can purchase Year 2 Pass currently, and a Legacy operator bundle for getting the season 1 content. What a Season Pass does is allow you to unlock all DLC operators for free and use them 1 week prior to others being able to. Even if you don't own a Season Pass you can still get these operators, you just have to grind enough Renown points for them (25k for each operator ~ 15-20 hours). So in that sense, once you purchase the base game, you are able to access all the content for no extra charge, which is great because Ubisoft is still adding new content and supporting the game. The season pass also comes with added benefits such as Renown Booster, extra credits, Store Discounts, exclusive skins etc and in my opinion is worth it if you have the money.

The game does contain some bugs related to hit registration and this annoying problem that happens when you look out of a window and you can't see anything. But these are being worked on, and there have been improvements in the recent patch, and since there has been another year of content promised, we can expect these to be fixed. The matchmaking system is also a pain in the ass for Lower Level players since you almost always get teamed up and against higher level people, which is frustrating for both parties. However, this gets better once you learn the game and get at a higher level. There is also a Ranked match system where you get various tiers based on your skill level.

Overall, at this price I believe this game has offered my my money's worth. If the concept of such an FPS interests you, and you are tired of the same repetitive type "Run and gun" gameplay of CoD, I'd say give this a shot.

A game which gradually drains away your youth, sanity, money, time and any chance of getting laid, and rewards you with magic hats.
11/10 would play again.
