A unique and challenging tactics game, blending in some elements of tower defense and economy building. 9/10

I would love to be able to recommend this game, but the replayability seems limited, which ends up being pretty disappointing since you'll be failing a good amount when you start.

There seems to be very little variance between games after the first 15 minutes or so. basically as soon as you unlock all the verbs the game becomes the same cycle of buy books, make money, dream on the mansus, repeat. eventually you're able to make money by doing patron requests and selling the spitrinas, but that's also nearly the same every time.

I would expect each different start to contain different gameplay throughout the playthrough, like unlocking different jobs from the start, unlocking your win conditions through different methods, maybe finding books in a different order. the starting conditions just don't seem to matter the longer you play.

Lastly, the game can feel quite grindy at times, doing the same thing over and over (work in particular) can get very tedious. I would expect an Auto-run setting on each verb where the game will attempt to repeat the same action over and over automatically as if it was one of the magnetic timers.

I want to like this game a lot, but i feel like it needs more unique options so you don't end up doing the same things every game.

Excellent 4X game, comprable in depth to civilization. The factions you can choose from are few, but all differ vastly in how they're played. Additionally the DLC are all considerable additions to the game, all of which enhance preiously underdeveloped or unused design space.

the only complaint is that it's not perfectly polished and you'll encounter small bugs from time to time, but i have yet to see a non-cosmetic bug that wasn't patched out in a few days.
