Yes this is a positive review but I don't really recommend it to anyone.

Let's see what the developers say: "Unlike most Roguelikes, on Ziggurat your combat skills will be the most important asset to keep advancing. Leveling up and random generated content is there to increase variety and make each game different, not to make the game a roll dice or an unbearable grind."

Nope lol

This game above all is about crowd control, and to achieve that you need perks that improve your defense (something like Mana Shield is MUCH better than just increasing your HP), speed, mana pools and experience intake. Of course you will need the right weapons (there are many that just sucks) but while you can reset the start of the game to RNG a good starting weapon good luck finding another at higher levels.

All of this is random, you CAN'T survive just hopping around with your wand and expect to win the game (if you play higher than easy, that is). The rooms most of the time are just too crowded and full of AOE spamming monsters to achieve that. Even leveling up a lot of time can screw you over, making you choose between upping the power of some weapon type you can't even use or maybe gambling to have your resources fulled or losing 25% maximum health, while already having maximum health and mana.

All this to say that this game is VERY rng based. I mean sometimes you can get the Elder perk and Mana Shield, becoming invincible: it's true that you have less maximum HP, but when hit your mana protects you and you have infinite of it, you can basically hold R2 till the end of game and get done with it.

Still it's not like I hate the game, I wouldn't grind all the achievements if that was the case, it's very addictive and there is a lot of fun things in it, if you want a magic themed FPS this is one of the best.

It has a lot of potential but also some crippling problems:

- 4 player local co-op was never delivered, acceptable for an unknown early access game but not for Nuclear Throne
- The difficulty is more random-based than skill-based: you can go on with the right weapons and perks but without 'em, good luck

To elaborate: if you go online you'll see people claiming that you need at least 90 hours invested in this game to be any good. That is far too much. It could be a lot more forgiving and as result much funnier but as it is it's just difficult for the sake of being difficult.

A waste of good characters and concepts.
