This review is kind of ranty, but I tried my best to make it kind of cohesive when I was so disappointed with the launch of this game.

The incompetence of these developers is actually astounding. I cannot understand how they spent 1 year for the 1.0 update because the only thing it seems they did was add more maps and a few more guns. They did LITERALLY NOTHING TO THE MAIN ISSUE OF THE GAME, which was the AI except SOMEHOW make it WORSE by intentional design. I have no clue what kinda ♥♥♥♥ they are smoking on when they are making these design choices, like the way stress works even outside of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incompetence in the .ini files where they added double negatives, so the suspects actually gain morale when you flashbang them, assuming that ACTUALLY worked the suspects still would not surrender because of how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid the stress system is.

So the idea is that the more loud noises you make the more "stressed" the suspects become which makes them more aggressive than the hyper-aggressiveness they already have, shooting at you through walls, and instantly, while their weapons are not even fully raised in the animation, they can headshot you three times while you tell them to comply. But anyway, the idea is then to NOT MAKE NOISE right? be STEALTHY perhaps? No, because you CAN'T the only things in the game that are silent are TASERS ,PEPPER SPRAY and CS GAS and that's IT so the ONLY playstyle you can engage in without stressing these people is gassing every room with a suspect in it and then going in with the taser, which is comically overtuned btw, but thank GOD because nothing else in this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game that is non lethal is reliable (also you have to make due with 1 taser because adding more tasers to your loadout does not give you more ammo for the taser you just waste a slot on 2 tasers). Even so, why does every single suspect react EXACTLY the same under stress? Do the developers know that people have DIFFERENT REACTIONS under stress? If they TRULY think every single person under stress becomes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ maniac why does it not DECREASE they accuracy it is just so baffling and stupid, their accuracy by default is comically high btw no matter the kind of suspect it is like every single suspect is/was a navy seal and if they were a navy seal they kept training every day at shooting moving targets while they themselves are moving at least 6 hours a day they have better preception than basically every human being (the AI also has a 270 degree cone of vision because both eyes have an aproxmiate 135 degree horizontal view and the devs are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid that i guess they forgot that both eyes have intersecting fields of view lmao)

Another absolutely hilarious thing is the commander mode which is so poorly designed it feels like it was phoned in and took them like a couple of days to make, so you have your roster of people and every one of your swat members can get stressed after missions by KILLING people alright so get this, failing the mission but arresting everyone is better for their mental health than suceeding saving everyone but having to kill people and your swat AI literally shoots the MICROSECOND ROE allows them to just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guns every suspect down because none of them surrender so your swat AI just obliterates them, failing a mission and getting stressed also makes 0 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense because that mission storywise literally just did not happen if you failed it yet your people still get stressed from it? Did they see the mission in a dream? What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke! It is also completely meaningless btw, because you have infinite reserves of SWAT members, and the only thing you lose is their little perk thing, which unlocks after three successful missions, and I mean, who cares about that anyway.

Another thing I dislike is that every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map has to be massive. There are like 3 maps in the game out of 18 that are not huge. I suppose they looked at SWAT 4 and saw that game having maps that are too small, what the heck is this there aren't 15 suspects in every level how is it supposed to be DIFFICULT? Because that is all these developers care about it seems DIFFICULTY but they do not take into account anything remotely realistic for an actual SWAT team. Every single mission in this game is a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rainbow six terrorist hunt where its like you are in Falljuah or a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stalingrad in WW2, where you have to try your HARDEST to have a small chance at surviving (did I also mention the AI sees through every single window surface, even the ones obstructed by curtains or being foggy windows like on nightclub). On some of these maps, like the Farm, your swat AI literally can barely even pathfind and open doors if you stack all 4 of them on a door they just are unable to open the door because they cannot position themselves correctly. Some of these maps, like the Farm also, have broken lighting thats incredibly obvious, they also managed to somehow make the performance worse on every single map except Port, in my experience somehow, so good job, Port is also the ONLY map in the game that has some actual story dialogue when you find the trafficking victims, and it has some cool visuals when you enter the action house, but outside of that, every single other mission has nothing like that. You find a boat used to smuggle immigrants? "Bagged it", you find CP, which is like an absurd amount of maps in this game are about CP? "Evidence Secured" where is the reaction from your character to all this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up ♥♥♥♥? Or is it actually intentional because every single map is so over the top ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up except a couple of them that it's just normal for these police officers to not give a ♥♥♥♥. Sometimes your AI teammates make some comments on these things, but they're hard to notice and nothing notable. They cannot compare themselves to the OG SWAT members from SWAT 4, considering they are all infinite meatbags for you to throw into the same map grinder over and over until you manage to succeed and not get insta killed through a wall.

I have so many more issues with this game that I'm just going to list some more of them and not elaborate a lot on them: They made the pepper ball guns some wierd ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mini gas launcher which sucks ass, there are holes in the hitboxes of the suspects somehow they managed to do that, the handcuff animations suck they did say they would make new ones and i think they even showcased new animations that just are not in the game, there are actually a lot of things that are not in the game but were promised features, they made performance significantly worse than early access but did make the game occupy 40 less GB so there is at least that, penetration of bullets seems completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥, the revolver feels like a non lethal weapon especially with AP ammo, they "wanted" to add the balaclava in the game as a facewear option but "ran out of time" before release even though its on the cover art of the game and on the art when you launch the game there are 2 swat members wearing balaclavas and it also existed in the game before 1.0 AND it is also in the game and was added by modders a few hours after release which is truly hilarious the devs ran out of time, the UI to give commands to the swat members is also kinda bad and janky and for some reason its not on scroll like swat 4 even though it apparently was before but i never played singleplayer before full release so i dont know either way its stupid. I probably have a lot more smaller complaints, but I cannot think of them right now.

This game is NOT a worthy successor to SWAT 4. This game is an absolute joke at simulating SWAT compared to a game from almost 2 decades ago. If you really want to play it, though, use the "No Crack for AI" mod. It was done by a modder a few days after release, and it makes the game fairly playable and makes the suspects actually have some things like "missing" and "morale" (concepts unknown to the developers)

This game is an incredibly remarkable game, in a way a game that represents what a video game truly should be absolutely ridiculous amounts of fun and a pretty strong story with some interesting philosophical and moral questions as is the tradition with the Metal Gear series.

The combat in the game is very good however the only issue with it is that there can be a little jank sometimes with the parry and the "dodging" or Offensive Defense as it is called in the game is somewhat annoying to pull off on a controller as you have to press 2 buttons at the same time but you get used to it and it is a great combat system outside of that, few things are as fun as slicing people into bits and pulling their spines out while the awesome soundtrack goes hard as ♥♥♥♥.

And this is a difficult game, however, most of the difficulty in this game comes from the player wanting to perform better in the level and achieve a wicked ranking as traditionally is the case with many of these "stylish hack and slash" games as I call them, which I think is a great way to make difficulty personally because you do not have to engage with the difficulty of it necessarily, however the better you get at the game the cooler and more stylish you will be so most players engage with that difficulty like with me as I replayed the same levels over and over which was incredibly enjoyable as the game has a lot of replay value just through its fun factor alone but also again through the ranking system as I wanted to get S on every level.

Something I find personally utterly fascinating is the soundtrack in this game is something very unique with a technique that I do not think any other game as far as I know has utilized. The game uses the soundtrack in an incredibly clever way, because the game is fairly short it does not have time to set up all of the bosses as pretty much all of them except Sam really get only one level to make them interesting characters and the game uses its soundtrack to explain how the characters think and what their motivations are, and it gives the player more insight into the characters than even some 100 hour RPG games can do into their main villain. Every single boss in this game has an incredibly good soundtrack that is extremely hard to forget and all of them are intriguing characters which is a really astonishing achievement for a shorter experience like this.

But one aspect of the soundtrack that I think is very underappreciated is the generic battle music which if you actually listen to it gives insight into Raiden's character and thoughts as you progress through the levels and I never see people talk about it which they definetly should, absolutely everything in the soundtrack here works togheter to sound badass and to tell a story which I love a lot and I wish more games would try things like this.

How about you take a break from hawking, we play cards, instead?
How about a few rounds of cards? Gwent specifically.
Wouldn't mind a few rounds of cards.
Wouldn't mind a few rounds of gwent.
A round of gwent, maybe?
Up for a few rounds of Gwent?
Let's play cards. Gwent wouldn't be bad.
Yearning to play a few rounds of gwent. That oughta set me straight.
We get some cards in, too, I'll be a happy man.
A game of gwent - How about it?
What would you say to a little game of gwent?
Dunno that I'm gonna buy anything, but I sure wouldn't mind a few rounds of gwent.
Wanted to play cards. Doubt we need to wait till tommorow.
Not hungry, not thristy, but I sure wouldn't mind a round of gwent.
Wouldn't minda round or two of cards. Only need my hands for that. Got those, see?
To matters less controversial - wouldn't mind playing a few rounds of gwent.
What would you say to a few rounds of gwent?
In the mood for some diversion. A game of gwent'd be best.
Trade's good and all, but I'm hankering to play some cards. Gwent, specifically.
Not so interested in goods, but I'd sure like to play some cards...

Nods without saying anything with a slight grin

This game is one of the most repetitive games I have ever played. There are only 4 objectives (which are more like 3) that are: deliver barrels somewhere, deliver grain somewhere, destroy objects and protect objects, these objectives are sometimes incredibly annoying and tedious to do and it gets repetitive really quickly.
The characters have like 3 voice lines, the elf keeps talking about the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lumberfoot and the dwarf's face being beyond saving like just shut the ♥♥♥♥ up. The characters themselves are not that interesting, the witch hunter and the dwarf are alright, the empire soldier is meh and the elf is just an annoying ♥♥♥♥♥.
The combat itself is alright it is pretty fun to kill the skaven, however it does start to drag a little bit later on. One big issue that I have related to the combat is that the corpses only exist for like 3 hot seconds so what is the point in the gore and all that if the corpses literally dissapear almost instantly, it is silly as ♥♥♥♥ when you throw a grenade and the skaven just dissapear instantly you dont see them flying or anything just *poof*.
The final boss is also a joke it is literally destroy 4 objects and thats all there is to it.
Overall I would say that this game is not really worth buying unless you are a very big warhammer fan most of the enjoyment I got was indeed because I was somewhat familiar with the setting, I do not really see people who arent familiar with it enjoying it at all.

Early Access Review
Bannerlord is better than Warband in a lot of ways, although at the moment the game is clearly unfinished with quite a few glitches and bugs and there is certainly a bit of a lack of content but I have been enjoying my time with it and I can only hope the game gets better.
