So after doing all but 1 trial on the PS4 version initially and having the fire reignited for the PC version, I’m quite happy to say I’d give Horizon a solid 9/10.

The game itself is beautifully crafted, the animations are smooth, the story is incredibly immersive, as well as the unique idea that you hunt and fight Machines in your daily activities, instead of just beasts.

So first I’ll go over the pros:
Incredibly immersive world, story, characters, you name it. It’s so easy to lose yourself in this game that doesn’t even feel like a game, in fact it feels more like an interactive movie where you say what happens between cutscenes.
The fights are incredibly realistic, right down to Machines sparking when they’re damaged, or collecting each other’s bodies to reuse the materials. This game has so many incredibly high quality models with great diversity, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that you can use to your advantage.
The on-the-fly crafting is also an incredibly nice touch. Out of arrows and want to keep your distance? Grab some wood and literally use your money to make more! Keeping a balance of your resources can get a bit pricey, especially since the costs don’t dynamically change to how many you need so you can waste a lot, but all non-story Machines infinitely respawn with a relatively short cooldown so you can farm up some parts easy, as long as you have some ammo left to exploit their weaknesses.
On top of all of that even more, it’s entirely open world! Really the only loading screens are fast travelling around to places.

Now I’ve done enough preaching about what I love about this game and you might think it’s too good to be true, but it does have its drawbacks so it’s not a perfect score:
Running around the world can get slow and a bit tiresome. You can unlock mounts after a certain point but I won’t spoil too much. Also fast travelling requires Packs, which you can craft from meat from killing the smaller wildlife.
Fights can get pretty dicey, especially with the bigger Machines. The Machines’ AI likes to pelt you with attacks and not really give you a lot of breathing room so you might be chugging healing a lot, but if you take a stealth approach to every fight, you can exploit a weak spot and get a bit of an upper hand. Keep in mind even the small ones like Watchers can hit for a good chunk so never underestimate a Machine. These things are pure steel and power, not skin and bone.
A lot of the non-story Machines all have specific spawn points, they don’t dynamically show up around the place so you know where they’ll always be, but it breaks the immersion just the tiniest bit.

Really aside from running across the map and the hyper aggressive Machines, the only other complaint I have is the performance everyone talks about, which brings me to my last point:
Performance seems to vary on the person. I’ve had a friend tell me it’s barely playable, mine runs at a perfectly smooth 40 and 60 on cutscenes. Just make sure you have the proper specs and updates, otherwise it could be your setup, or the game just doesn’t work.
Keep in mind this is a PS4 port, it won’t be perfect off the launch. PS4 is designed to cap at 30 FPS with a limit on data, not 60+ for 32-64 GB of RAM like PC.

Be patient for optimization patches, don’t refund as soon as it lags, honestly. I’m sure Guerilla worked day and night to make this game the best they could for us to probably meet a deadline. So yes, it may not meet your standards off the jump but if you just have a little patience, you’d see why I love this game so much

It's been a long, slow road, but sometimes slow is just what a game needs to be great!

I adore the original Subnautica, even more so after it helped me get over my fear of deep water, and Below Zero always seems to eventually draw me back, especially now that rest of the playable story has been released. Subnautica: Below Zero is such a beautifully crafted game, the perfect balance of danger, grind, exploration and story. Even after full release, I know I'll be playing this again!

After almost 700 hours on PC and probably double spanned over 2 characters on PS4, I must admit I'm a little disappointed by World, compared to the older Monster Hunter games.

Pros:
- Noob-friendly, easy starter game for people new to the series
- Open world with little loading times
- Very high attention to map and monster detail
- Fluent and easy to pull off weapon combos

Cons:
- Fights get distracting in a bad situation
- Environment gets old and boring after you know your way around
- Items around the map can hardly be used in situations
- Monsters die way too fast, even solo
- Weapon combos are too powerful and abusable if you know how to use them
- Music tracks loop way too early
- Very small monster lineup

Comparison to previous Monster Hunter games:
- Maps are distracting and drain the value of battles
- Monsters die too fast or too slow, fights can last minutes or almost the full quest
- Little boss variety
- Tempered and Arch-Tempered monsters are recycled concepts, instead of more subspecies with new attacks or tactics

Conclusion:
After a lot of thought, Monster Hunter: World itself isn't a bad game. It still follows the style of the series, being a 1-on-1 style fight to the death with giant monsters with comically oversize weapons. However World is better as an "introductory" game for those new to the series, although veterans like myself would prefer the older gen style of games like 4 Ultimate and Generations Ultimate.
