Playing ICEY can be a struggle. The Narrator is a jerk. A really big jerk. He has his idea for a perfect game, and anything outside of his linear path is... Not right. This can be a bit of a nightmare to put up with, especially when you're constantly being reminded that YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING THE ARROWS TO JUDAS (This makes up about 70% of his dialogue -n-).

If you can get past this - by enjoying petty victories like the one you can claim at the very start of the game, or what you get if you follow the line of action for the "People are Pigs" achievement; or by just ignoring him most of the time - you'll enjoy yourself and enjoy some very pretty visuals and some honestly very challenging bosses. The upgrade system is a bit lacking and getting money to upgrade yourself is a chore if you're really struggling against one or two bosses...

The final real problem I had is the difficulty spike in the final area. I don't know if you were meant to grind for money or something, but the final boss and the midboss of the area are both nightmares. At least there's a way to skip one of the bosses.

A neat alternative to the Stanley Parable, but your actions can lack impact in the long run so it can be a bit of a pain. Neat combat system.

While suffering somewhat from some bugs and glitches, the game itself is a good challenge, to keep the simple review. You will need to find the patch.
Moving to the more detailed review...
The intial attempts you may make to load the game could end in heartbreak, as the game possesses a bug which prevents you, or at least prevented me, from playing the game without downloading a key patch. The good news is that this patch is available for free online, in fact there is an extended unofficial patch, also available, which does not prevent the game being played on steam. Not that you would be missing much, the game doesn't have 100% steam compatiable 'chieves all over the place, or much else. It's single player, after all.
Once you get into the game you find that there is both a tutorial section - skippable, if you don't mind loosing some work towards stat increases and having to pay for a set of lockpicks - and a guided character creation, which is perfectly good if a little impersonal. You also have the option to set everything yourself, if the guided version did not set things to your pleasure.
And then you get to the story, and that... Well, it's hardly my place to spoil it, especially with it's numbers of little twists and hidden reprocussions.
You should play it if you really want to find out.
