I bought the game during the Steam Summer Sale which was June 19th - July 2nd 2014. At it's current state, the game is unplayable to me. There are numerous game-breaking bugs that ruin the game for me, such as:
-Crew Members will not follow orders
-Only the Captain will respond to orders when giving a group command (Such as Gunners, Boarders, etc)
-When capturing a ship your crew will fly into the ocean (I wish this was a joke)
-Captain decided to grapple to the bottom of the ocean

That's just to name the few I've experienced in my hour of play.
Overlooking the bugs, I think this will be a good game when it gets out of early access. However I cannot really assess the game in it's current state as I can't get far enough to experience anything other than 1 or 2 ship battles.

I've owned the game for a few days now, it definitely has its strong points and weak points. (AS OF GAMMA BUILD 62110)

Let's start with what's good about the game. The music in this game is fan-flipping-tastic. Blasting Classical while I launch nuclear missiles at my enemies is very satisfying. I'm also really enjoying the graphics. Just imagine the cartoon-ish graphics of Team Fortress 2 except in space. That is what Planetary Annihilation looks like. All the core mechanics of the game are there, and there patches launched quite often.

However the game has several substantial flaws. First, and probably most important, the game has absolutely no offline mode whatsoever. You MUST have internet connection to play the game. I personally have terrible internet connection, in matches the game will often pause for a few seconds due to internet speed. Second, the game crashes. ALOT. As in if you so much as look at the game it stops responding. Joining a game is quite glitchy, as I often get booted from the Join Menu. Some of the games you join will cause the game to crash.

Pros:
-Amazing soundtrack
-Good graphics
-Reasonable performance on relatively low-end computers
-Planet Smashing

Cons:
-So many crashes
-Requires internet connection
-AI is a bit aggressive, even on Easy

You send little adorable Kerbal people in the rockets you build into SPAAAAAAAAACE! It is still a work in progress but still a great game!
