Okay after you beat ludex is when you first get embered, only then you can invite your friend in your world. You go to settings and there should be a tab with online settings and a spot were you can put a password, you two both have to have the same password and will pretty much link your server together. Be wary of pvpers. Also if your not embered anymore via you died or whatever, if your friend is or can use embers then you can go to his server via white soapstone you buy from the old lady for 500 souls, the old lady in the main hub area by the blacksmith!
