My first play-through in 12 years and its on pc! It feels shorter than the first game because its more linear but it has about the same amount of content. Not as good as the fist imo, but its fun enough to warrant a purchase.

Definitely feels more like art than game sometimes but nevertheless I think this is the greatest game I've ever played. So unique and interesting in the ways in borrows ideas from other civilizations to tell its story, namely, Egypt. Barring the atrocity that is driving in this game it is a masterpiece of story telling. If I wasn't chronically depressed I definitely would have cried at the end, seeing the puzzle of everything come together so neatly.

Wish there was a newgame+ to enjoy my unlocked cosmetics at least.

Difficult Yet Refreshing
(Original review below this one) Stutters have been fixed and the game is playable. This game feels full of mystery and things waiting to be explored. The random wand and large level generation is keeping me coming back for more wands, kills, explosions, and new ways to die like being meleed by a frog. I recommend this at full price and urge you to buy on a sale. These rougelites tend to offer tons of hours of fun, so take the plunge into the mines and beyond.


I only played for 30 minutes and while the game play was interesting and fun, it was ham-stringed by constant FPS drops whenever something exploded or generated a lot of pixels even on the lowest settings, which if you have seen the trailers, there are a lot of those; which caused it to feel like I was in slow motion. I have a i5-9600k, I should not be experiencing these issues. The game is hard-coded at 60 so theres no buffer for frame drops. If they ever fix the performance issues it I will try repurchasing again. Perhaps in a year from now.

Its not an RPG but rather a action game disguised as an RPG with meaningless dialogue choices and pointless "life paths". Just release an anime and people will forget all the lies and the despicable release state. I will never ever forget CDPR's deceit and I don't think I'll be buying a game from them again. Certainly not at release.

Darkwood is a good game I think
because it feels like a horror game with combat elements instead of an action game with horror elements. Combat is an integral part of the game but I never felt I had to kill something to progress the narrative, it just made exploring easier and safer.

The creatures and characters are as disgusting as they are interesting and at the end of the game if you get the true ending, will make you question your entire journey.

True to the loading screen warning, the game does not hold your hand but does offer I think, an excess of resources where your only challenge, besides dodging/killing enemies and making it back to the hideout and setup traps before 20:00, is to organize and find storage space for all your items. However due to this lack of hand-holding I did not understand the pistol did not need bullets, just magazines to fire. Apparently all mags are already full.

I have completed the game twice, first play through took 39 in-game days and my second took just over a week at 15 days on nightmare. I wished I had played the game on hard to begin with as dying on normal has virtually no punishment besides missing out on trader rep and dropping gear at place of death.

Where Darkwood shines is through its creepy atmosphere and sound design. The wedding event was the most terrifying part of the game in my opinion. I found the scripted stuff to be better than being ambushed by savages or human-centipedes when wandering.

Each of your choices will have consequences not fully felt until the very end and are heavily dependent on the type of ending.

I can't believe I have played this for 41 hours and I hope you enjoy playing Darkwood as much as I have.

Took me ten hours to beat and I did true pacifist on my first and only run thus far without really knowing too much about the game, just that you could defeat it without killing anything which I thought improved the game and ending. Characters were memorable and unique too and it had that weird feeling of getting to know a video game character like they are a real friend, but when its over its like having to say goodbye forever even when its simple pixel art expressions and witty text. After beating the game I understand why it is so beloved and I only wish I had played it sooner.

An underwater adventure on an alien planet with few plot holes. Draw distance is pretty bad though and ruins the immersion.

Crash on a hostile island with mutant cannibals that you can create effigies with, I do love hacking limbs off. Its fun alone but better with friends probably
