Melty Blood: Type Lumina (MBTL) is one of the more accessible fighting games, while still having depth for experienced players to keep them engaged.

It is good for:
-new players that want to access combos without having to spend a lot of time training
-players who enjoy detailed tutorials, which are ordered into tiers of skill level
-players who are existing fans of the franchise, or like the soundtrack and the game's visuals
-players who enjoy single-player content revolving around getting high scores (survival, time attack, arcade, etc.)
-players who want to play with friends online. Rollback netcode ensures a generally smooth experience if everyone's connection is good.
-players who want to have access to the whole roster without paying for DLC
-players (likely experienced) who want to turn off the auto-combo feature
-players who enjoy unlocking art in a gallery to view as they please
-mentors who want their students to view inputs in real time (but only as spectators, you can't play and view inputs at the same time)
-players who like to have lots of color swap options, including slots for customization (no costumes/outfit changes)
-players who hate Touch of Death combos (combos that bring a character from full health to no health)
-players who like high mobility and defensive options

It does not:
-provide a narrative way to experience the story prior to this game. You have to read the lore in menus if you don't want to go somewhere else to get it.
-provide a way to bypass motion inputs. If you don't like quarter circles, DPs (Z-motion), or 22 inputs (down twice in quick succession), you will either have to go somewhere else or work to overcome your aversion.
-provide an online training room, where two players can have infinite time and health to lab stuff out together. It also doesn't have Remote Play, which would bypass this issue at the cost of latency.
-have much single player content outside of the story/survival/score attack/time attack modes. If you're looking for a full visual novel experience or something like a single-player campaign, MBTL isn't the game to satisfy that desire.

The gameplay is fair and balanced, the content is almost entirely accessible to free to play players, and the games are an appropriate length. More fun with friends who you can coordinate with, but there are enough communication tools to allow for not having voice chat and still coordinating well. If you like having lore to the game, it's sufficient but doesn't really excel in that department.
