This game has had a bad rap and really struggled at launch. Since then it has come a long way and has revolutionised its new player experience. With its current business model of buy to play, its worth picking up for the levelling process alone nowadays. The visuals are some of the best in the genre, zones are large and worth exploring; and the gathering/crafting system is extremely rewarding (albeit slightly confusing at first). If you are a casual player and don't care too much for grinding for the 'BiS meta' for PvP or PvE, then New World will be a refreshing scratch to that MMO itch.

Where the game struggles is in its end game. The landscape for progression in gypsum, expeditions, OPR, 3v3, 10 mutation levels etc is so thinly spread that its almost impossible on some servers (even high pop ones) to play the content you want to play. If you aren't grinding 8+ mutations already then you will struggle to keep up as there aren't enough players to go around the content. I can sit in GF and Recruitment chat for hours trying to find a Tempest regular group and still not get to play that 1 dungeon.

I'm struggling to find motivation at the moment. Logging in, I'll do daily crafts, maybe a solo chest run in BS, then struggle to find a group for a dungeon, get bored and log out. I have no need to grind gypsum, I don't have the gear, money or time to commit to gathering or crafting at end game, so I feel my grip on the game waning slightly.

All in all, bittersweet experience. I hope the devs sort the end game soon. Would still recommend a new player on the fence about starting New World that they give it a go. It might just surprise them.

Early Access Review
Has its problems due to the early alpha access, but is still a solid and potentially brilliant game.
