Or in the XC_Bags comment section of course ...
I removed the file from the Nexus because I'm suspicious that the Nexus tries to claim files and start making money of them with their big change of last July. ...and I completely disapprove making money from my work, as I also never wanted money for it.
There is still at least one version of XC_Encounters on the Nexus which includes basically all that most people wanted from XC_Bags, the bags and the crafting station.
(... as long as it does not cause me extra work ,,, ;-)
I'm guessing he deleted his profiles so he'd stop being barraged with messages. I'm going to try and find him on Nexus Mods so I can message him. I'd like to get his permission so I can reupload it to Nexus Mods.
I totally get being burned out on a game and modding plus not having enough time. I'm guessing Smarmbot had a similar experience after merging XC_Encounters. There's a reason the mod I made for Fallout 4 hasn't been updated in years. Overhauls and script-heavy mods like Epic Encounters and XC Bags are a lot of work, and I don't expect anyone to have the time to to make those twice.
Apart from time constraints - to be honest - Epic Encounters never really caught my interest very much and I have only downloaded it once to check if it's story code could interfere with XC_Bags.
I've never played it though.
I'm not sure if Epic Encounters for version 2 is already released or not because up to this day I haven*t found the motivation to play version 2 and thus I don't watch the new mods for it ... ;-)
None of us knows why, I myself can only speculate that the reason was to never have to support it again, but that's only speculation.
(Since it was not our mod, we also had no control over the files nor control over if they could be deleted or not, both from Nexus and Steam.)
If you really want to find out, the original author's Steam nickname was "Smarmbot", but he (or she) has changed the nickname a couple of time since back at release time.
The last name I remember was "Spence" and I think that nickname is still valid since I got notice about "Spence" being in the game "Divinity Original Sin 2" recently.
I suppose he/she also roams the D:OS2 discussion forum and possibly even some of Larian's forums, at least that's where I was asked for the permission to use XC_Bags code back in 2017.
Anyway, concerning XC_Encounters:
As far as I've noticed, Ameranth (co-author of Epic Encounters) seemed to be as surprised as I was when XC_Encounters suddenly disappeared.
The problem here is that although Ameranth, Elric and I were listed as authors, we never really were. The reason we were listed was simply because we gave our permissions to use our scripting codes and resources in the merger. And if I remember correctly, we were also asked to provide some support and then answer questions about the areas we felt competent enough to answer.
How did hyou add new faces as portraits in Diviniti original sin enhanced edition?
Almost all functionality - especially that from XC_Bags - requires starting a new game because otherwise the changed scripting code is never picked up.
If you create a new game without the mods, they will not work if activated afterwards.
(Even if the game's Mods dialog might give you the impression that this could be the case.)
I am not the author of XC_Encounters, only an 'advisor' for parts that come from XC_Bags.
All I can say is that if 6 man party is not working, a script part must have failed to execute.
I know the inner workings of the party limit but I do not know how Smarmbot implemented the workaround for it. (I know how I did it in the 6 man version of XC_Bags.)
I've read quite a few reports about the script engine stopping its work in Epic Encounters and XC_Encounters. The reason for this is yet unknown but my guess is that it must have to do with 'too much scripting' in Epic Encounters.
The only advice I can give you is to start a new playthrough and 'hope' for all scripts to work correctly.
For the Epic Encounters part, I cannot say anything at all, you'll have to ask the authors of it.
I'm using the compiled XC_Bags + Epic Encounter + 6-man party.
I can't find the Hearthstone/Green Orb in the starting beach. My main menu has changed once I've activated the mod, and I received an item in-game that tells me EE has been properly installed. All aspects of EE are there (the modified spells, etc).
But the 6-man party isn't working. The biggest tell is I couldn't find Hearthstone/Green Orb in the starting beach.
Celia's offer was specifically reduced to avoid some internal problem that could occur for very long playthroughs with lots of crafting and trading. (the infamous out-of-handles crash)
Also, the unbreakable lockpicks and trap disarm kits and some other trader changes stem from there ... ;-)
There's only a single ident glass for sale, in fact there is only one instance of *every* tool for sale of all those that server no purpose anymore other than unlocking the new tools.
The old tools were only given to traders in case someone misses the places where they can be 'obtained' (=stolen) otherwise. In the case of the ident glass that would be Roberts' back room and the quartermaster room above the legion kitchen to mention the two that I immediately remember.
Some unlockers are not explicitely sold by traders because masses of them are found in the world, e.g. regular knives (or daggers I think) which unlock all of the 4 different new crafting knives.
Of course with some drop luck, you might get an 'unlocker ident glass' in the tutorial dungeon already.
Greetings and already thanks for the answer =)
Knowing people, if I had forgotten to mention a lot of the tiny changes or left out on purpose, they would have complained about every single tiny bit. That's why the list is so long.
In reality, only the bags, the crafting station and the added crafting recipes are really worth mentioning, and maybe minor things like mine respawn and the new skills of course.
Charm is a mechanic that is so incredibly overpowered that I had planned to remove it altogether, for players and also npcs in the once planned big mod which never came (because it was made obsolete ;-).
If there is a bigger change to charm in Epic Encounters (and thus also its descendent XC_Encounter), there's nothing I can do about it because they are not my mods.
(I don't remember though if Epic Encounters changed something about charm.)
I had once planned a real re-balancing mod with increased difficulty but after Epic Encounters came out, it would have been superfluous (... and I had gotten lazy ;-)
What I did with crafting outweighs the little nerfs I made to weapons easily ;-)
If you're looking for a harder gameplay, Epic Encounters would be your first choice, or its descendent XC_Encounters which has the bags and crafting station from XC_Bags (but hardly anything else from it (besides maybe some of the 'bug fixes' I made to the game ;-).
And ... don't blame the mod's author because it's not his fault but ultimately Larian's.
(Also not if it cannot be fixed because not every change is possible without breaking existing savegames.)
If an internal part of the game is implemented wrongly, if some script runs bad or if some dialog is not closed properly, it should always be caught by the engine, possibly accompanied by displaying an error message. What should *never ever* happen is a 'silent crash'. At least in my opinion.
(Means that they did not do their exception handling homework, a 'hobby' of way too many programmers by the way. Also a thing viewed as unnecessary by project managers and accountants too often, a thing to be done after everything else is finished, and thus never happens ...)
This includes XC_Encounters because I'm not the author/publisher. All I did for it was to give some advice and info on workings to the actual author. Well, and my permission to use XC_Bags parts in the merger mod.
There is only one reason why I am listed as 'author' for XC_Encounters: The actual author (Smarmbot) invited me to get listed as author, which I'm not.
(I believe the same is the case with Ameranth and Elric, the two authors of Epic Encounters.)
All that said, even if I could fix things in XC_Encounters, I could not upload a new version to the Workshop because it's not my Workshop file but Smarmbots and so I doubt the Steam client would grant me access to it. Same for the Nexus of course, it's Smarmbots file there and only he gets access. (He has a different user name there.)
The same would be true for Ameranth and Elric I guess.
In both XC_Bags mods (normal and 6man), I did not change anything with the dialogs since I have not gotten any crash reports so far, at least I don't remember any in the mod's discussion section or in the Larian forum or on the Nexus.
(The source of the cause was found by Abraxas *after* I had published both mods.)
I can't speak for other mods.
If there's a crash in one of the XC_Bags mods, I can look if I can fix it. But I'm really lazy these days and if there's no desperate need to do the work, I won't do it. (I also have a lot less free time than I had when I developed XC_Bags.)
Sorry for having to spoil here.
And all the work in XC_Encounters was done by Smarmbot and maybe some by Ameranth and Elric, but none by me, I did not more than give advice for some parts included from XC_Bags when necessary ;-)
You see that although I'm listed as 'author' for XC_Encounters, it's a huge exaggeration, at least in my view ;-)
I know of two difficulty mods:
- 'Epic Encounters' by Ameranth and Elric and
- 'Scales' by Baardvark (which can only be found on Nexus, not in the Workshop).
Creating XC_Bags took me around 6 months of almost everyday fulltime work (I did not have a job back then so I had time ...). And there are so many bugs in engine and the whole game and zero support from Larian or willingness to fix the bugs, that I completely lost any motivation to do any more active modding myself. All I do these days is to check my own mods and XC_Encounters (only because it contains XC_Bags code) every now and then and answer simple questions when the answer is also simple.
But as said, the amount info you'd like to have is massive and most if not all is available in the mod forum.
... and I check the mod forum pretty regularly - as other modders do too - and answer questions there if I feel competent enough.
So please spread the 'workload' by asking your questions where they belong: in Larian's mod forum. And try to gather at least the info from the sticky threads in this forum before even asking, because other people get tired too if they are expected to answer questions that have been answered numerous times before already and the answers are publically accessible anyway.
And since my working hours are pretty 'flexilble', I'm sometimes out of the house for 12+ hours. So I can never make sure when I actually find the time (and motivation) to even look into Steam.
When I do, I only check the 3 mods I'm listed with and try to answer simple questions.
Basically all the stuff you want to know about modding has been written down in Larian's mod forum, sometimes a couple of times. It's a massive amount of information. I hope you can understand that I'm not too keen on explaining this massive amount of information which has been posted already again and again. It's really a massive amount but it's all there.
