The Good

Dungeon Fighter is one of my most favorite game that I've been playing in and out of since 2008 from Tencent to Nexon NA and now to DFO Global. The beat em up style game play makes this game satisfying and rewarding to play. Along with a large variety of classes and sub classes each with their own style and unique abilities creates countless options for the players to chose from. DFO is easy to get into and it is very addictive due to its nature. It also caters to the more hard core group with its end game and pvp mostly because of the large variety of classes/subclasses and the mechanical skill ceilling.

With DFO Global being run by Neople, the game is a lot less pay to win compared to before. Since its reboot changing the game completely from the lore, dungeons, the characters, the game's economy, and game play balance, the game is a brand new game from almost a decade before. Grinding has been eliminated by a large margin in terms of leveling in the game compared to before. Good gears are easily achieved, and dungeons difficulty level curve has been readjusted. From my wallet's and mental health's point of view, I love it.

The Bad

But from the other categories point of view, I dislike some of these changes that were made into the game. In pre-reboot, ALL of the dungeons truely felt unique in its own way and the storyline/region ties them all together to make you care about the lore and story of the game. Dungeon monsters were challenging and requires some thinking and mechanical skill for you to defeat. NPC's were interesting and also unique. But now? Dungeons all nothing more than a push over. Leveling just feels like a chore more than an experience and it's feels like it's only there for you to familiarize yourself with your subclass. Quests are generic and cliche and most will find themselves just skipping dialogues to maximize leveling efficiency. What happened to old Arad and the old NPC's that we've grown to love? Oh they're still there. Just hidden and grouped up in low level areas and areas you would never revisit again. Now, the new NPC's just feels like a generic anime character that's just there to hand out quests so that you can get on with your day. Their stories doesn't matter any more and why should you? You'll be out of this area and be finished with the questline in 20 minutes anyway. What ultimately matter is the grind for end game. To me, the changes in DFO feels like the changes to WoW. Call me nostalgic, but I'd rather be playing the old DFO even with its massive paywall.

Is the paywall gone though? No, it has never left. Like I mentioned above, I've been playing this game in and out for 8 years mostly because when I finally come back to re-experience the greatness of the game, I was turned off by its massive grind for end game once I've reached max level. Nobody enjoys doing the same dungeon thousands to tens of thousdans of times just for that slim chance of aquiring the weapon of your desire. But getting your Epic level gear is just the first part. Reinforment [wiki.dfo-world.com] is what drives people to poverty. Although it's more towards the most extreme ends of the game, there really isn't much else to do besides pvp or leveling other characters if this is what you're not doing.

Conclusion

DFO has caused me to set a very high bar for other games because of its amazing amount of variety and of its satisfying game play. However, changes to this game has made the game's story line, charaters, and overall immersion crap. Levels are handed out freely. And the end game grind and pay to win nature can turn people off quite a bit. But that's just my opinion of the game. DFO is still very popular across the globe and there's no shortage of end game players that still enjoy the game to prove it. I still give this game a positive rating and people should try it out themselves since it is free to play, should not just base their decisions solely on a random user who reviewed this awesome game. So yes, give this game a try and it might not seem as bad as I decribe it to be for you.
