There are plenty of issues with this DLC, but all in all, it was a big improvement over Ancient Gods 1.

ToG1 had a crapton of mechanics that were designed to cap your mobility and lock you in place while you got pelted by ranged enemies. Thankfully, most of these have been removed here. There are a bunch in the first mission, but beyond that, the map layout and level design are way more faithful to Doom's core design.

There were a couple annoying encounters here and there, especially in the first mission, and the final boss's HP regen was a huge pain to deal with. Otherwise, I generally felt like the game was trying to encourage me to fight smart and play well, rather than getting in my way.

I was pretty much on the fence about this DLC for the first two missions, but I think the third is what sold me on this review. Overall, the campaign sacrifices most of what made me fall in love with DOOM Eternal in the first place.

The final boss arena, as well much of the level design, seems specifically designed to control and restrict your movement. Not a huge deal on its own, but the problem is compounded by the way enemies spawn in the level. Often times, you'll end up being chased by several Hell Barons or similar Demons while getting surrounded and pelted by ranged enemies as the map works to stop you from moving. In the main campaign, each encounter brings a huge number of possibilities to how you approach the situation. I'm all for a good challenge, but taking away those possibilities by locking you in place while you get pelted by Blood Makyrs and chased by spirited Hell Barons and Marauders is not the way to accomplish that. Many mechanics are meant to mess with you and your ability to play, rather than empower you to be a badass.

On the topic of level design, the missions in this campaign seem really bland relative to their counterparts from the main game. Ask me how I felt during any mission and I can tell you, because a huge amount of work goes into the environment, the soundtrack, and the overall atmosphere. The first mission is fairly generic, I've seen the exact same environment in any number of scifi games. The second is a bit more unique, but there isn't an additional soundtrack or anything that could really affect the atmosphere. The third feels like a huge wasted opportunity. Other than the skybox in the screenshots (which admittedly looks pretty epic), there's no real attention paid to the devastation we should be witnessing. It's basically the exact same mission we played through the first time with a different layout and no launch rings. Seems rather odd to me, considering how unique and alien it felt entering Urdak for the first time.

I got this DLC on sale, and I certainly don't regret buying it. However, due to its generally flawed execution and a number of problems I haven't even mentioned, I really can't recommend a 3-mission campaign to anyone for the price of $20.

I was definitely skeptical of this game when I bought it, but surprisingly enough, it avoids most of the downfalls of this genre and manages to create gameplay that's relaxing, rewarding, and straightforward.

The resource management is extremely user-friendly. One of my biggest issues with building games like this is their habit of requiring you to manage layers of resources to produce more resources just to get to the next upkeep resource. This is not the case with Tavern Master. Your resources can be controlled from a couple of screens, and because it's essentially a gold-for-resources exchange, there's plenty of wiggle room to make a profit in your own time on your terms.

The game also offers a lot of breathing room when it comes to making changes to your infrastructure. There's no need to demolish everything and wait 10 minutes for it to rebuild. Your infrastructure easy to move on a moment's notice, and there's a period of time at the end of each day where your tavern closes and you can make adjustments without repercussions. It's easy to be creative, and set up your tavern the way you want rather than being bound to arbitrary restrictions.

The only issue I've had with this game other than a couple extremely minor bugs, is the endgame. It does get slower once you reach a certain point, and you may find that either relaxing or boring. Regardless, Tavern Master is still rewarding to play, and definitely worth the price if you enjoy builder games like this.

Haven't played with all the weapons yet, but the Trollhammer Torpedo is awesome. While it does have fairly low ammo cap (11 shots total), the ability to one-shot specials shouldn't be underestimated. A well-placed torpedo can take out an entire Stormvermin patrol in one hit, and on top of that, you can basically solo bosses without running out of ammo.

I've never really understood the hate for this class. I main Bardin, and since I switched to Outcast Engineer, I get more kills than my entire team combined every game. Pair it with the Torpedo from the Forgotten Relics DLC, and you can kill anything with minimal effort, including an entire wave of Clanrats. Get them in a chokepoint, and you can literally kill an entire wave by yourself in under 3 seconds. Yes, I've done this before.

The Engineer's survivability is admittedly not great, but that's never really been a problem for me. I'm almost always the last person to die, even with that in mind. As long as you do a good job reloading your Crank Gun, and making sure you don't get surrounded (which you should be doing anyways), you'll be golden. The reload mechanics are generally not super popular, and I can totally understand why. But IMO, it's a small price to pay for becoming a god of death.

Bottom line, if you play this class right, you get some of the best damage output in the game by far. Yes, the survivability is lower, but I've only had issues with this in the worst possible situations.

Pretty awesome game for $5, but be warned - always play with friends. Can't even get a game going anymore, every public lobby I join is a troll lobby.

I was pretty enthusiastic about this game when I first bought it, but I honestly feel like the devs dropped the ball pretty hard.

Foundation is advertised as a city-builder game similar to Cities: Skylines. The trailer was jaw-dropping, and the ability to create huge custom castles and massive sprawling cities was amazing. Alas, when I started playing, I ended up getting very annoyed. The game is 90% resource management and 10% city planning. You need resource A and B to get resource C to get resource D, all with somewhat limited building space. I've enjoyed games like that before, but it's executed in the most clunky and inefficient way possible.

See all those houses in the trailer? See how it looks like a real sprawling medieval city? Yeah, no, those are placed automatically by the villagers. They'll either waste tons of space, or force you to manually paint the area for every single house manually. I'm not kidding, that's what every guide I read recommended. Imagine doing that in Cities: Skylines. Imagine if every single house had to be manually painted on the map, instead of being placed manually, or painted on a grid. It's not necessarily hard, it's just a chore.

The other thing that really annoyed me is the monument building. If you cruise around long enough, you'll see people building these huge churches, manors, keeps, etc. This was a really amazing concept, but it's ultimately shackled to your constant demand for resource micromanagement. On top of that, villagers require certain buildings in certain areas, so going all-out and creating massive cathedrals like the game advertises just wastes time, resources, and precious space.

To be clear, Foundation isn't a terrible game. It's just such a chore to get through with far too many limitations to keep me interested.

Sniper Elite could've been so much fun, but the game is broken to the point that it's outright unplayable. Constant crashes, sound issues, graphical glitches, and general bugginess have PHYSICALLY prevented me from playing the game for more than 20 minutes. Posted a bug report about 5 years ago, and I have yet to get a response.

Too bad I waited so long to try this. Might've been able to get my $30 back.

Dead Space 2 is way more action-oriented than the original. In general, the weapon design is a bit more polished and enjoyable, the graphics are a bit better, and it has a pretty solid story with some truly epic moments. Although it was never as atmospherically on-point as Dead Space 1, and seemed to sacrifice a lot of its horror element for raw action. My advice is to buy and play the original game first, then come back and play Dead Space 2. It gives you a way better appreciation for the series as a whole, and I can safely say both games are an essential playthrough.

Unlike most of my friends, I can't get enough of horror games. I loved Dead Space, I played the Forest and trolled the cannibals until they were about as threatening as a Chihuahua. But my god, was this game terrifying.

It's a pretty straightforward horror game - get from point A to point B and back again, with nothing but jump scares in between. But the environment is genuinely surreal, and I love it. There's nothing more terrifying than wandering around, only to turn the corner and see one of the baddies lumbering towards you. Playing as an infant gives you a neat sense of scale that's only built upon by the otherworldly environment.

So, if you're looking for a neat horror game, or just happen to like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ your pants, Among the Sleep is absolutely worth a playthrough.
