Assassin's Creed Unity

I have played any of the Assassins Creed games in chronological order, so this review is based on the fact that I haven't made any experience with Syndicate, Chronicles, Origins and Oddysey. And another very important point for me is that I don't like to compare games with other ones.

The world of Assassins Creed Unity is big and we find ourselves in the Paris at the time of the french revolution. The character we play is Arno Dorian, at the beginning a young boy, who knows nothing about the hundreds of years old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. After a fatefull happening he meets his following mentor, Pierre Bellec, an Assassin, and gets initiated into the Brotherhood of the Assassins and reveals a conspiracy, by trying to discover to what happenend in his earlier years with his father. There are some kind of similarities to the story to Assassins Creed II, but Arno has his own motivies and also his own developement during the whole story. Important and what this series makes up is the fact that you meet many historical persons, in that case for example Robespierre or Napoleon.

The setting of this games is as I mentioned earlier is Paris and Versailles at the time of the french revolution. Many details you can see walking through the streets there are much buildings you can walk into. Masses of people in the streets and places who are crying about the King and the bad circumstances they live in. The feeling that there is a revolution coming is totally overwhelming and realistic.

With the graphics I didn't had any issues, as many other reviews say something else. In over 146 hours playtime I had maybe two glitches when the body of a killed guard was flying through the street. I was always playing in the highest settings and had no framerate issues, even if I was walking through a crowd of 200 or more people. After Black Flag Ubisoft has improved again the graphics and details in Unity. Many little details we can see climbing on churches like gargoyles and waterspouts. Burning road blokades which gives you a better feeling for the revolution and many more.

What is way more difficult than in other Assassins Creed games is the combat system. It has changed that even a crowd of guards could be killed one by one, and anyone else was waiting. In Unity they pool together against you and also your enemies withstand more than in earlier parts of the series. At the beginning it might be a little bit frustrating and irritating but you can learn very fast how to handle with it.

Also improved has the free running and parkour system. It is now possible to make a controlled and rapid climb-down to get fast from the rooftops. Also you can slide under tables or swing through windows during you are running and chasing a marked person through buildings. Anything you do feels more smooth and has sometimes the look like the parcour guys nowadays.

What you also have is again a home base where you can ear money for buy buildings in whole Paris, also you get there a couple of sidequests. There is also a room for your robes and outfits you can find in chests. Besides that there are so many sidequests and little tasks you can do. the 3-D-map is full of it. Many chests with money, quests for the Assassins, collecting stuff, climbing the viewpoints of each district, which help you to get faster from one point to another and many many more.

The character customization is more extensive than before. The variety of swords, heavy weapons, chest guards, belts, coats and for your legs is enormous. There are also some kind of perks you can by with a special in-game-currency, but I have never done that because it's not important, and you have to spend real money for that.

A new feature is that Unity gives you the opportunity to play coop missions. You can join some kind of guild or brotherhood which exists already of found one on your own. You can play those missions with your guild members or if there is no one online you can search random players for those missions.

A feature that is implemented since Assassins Creed Brotherhood are the optional missions which you need to do to get 100% of the game. You always to have look during a mission what are those tasks because they are not shown on the HUD.

At least the story of Assassins Creed Unity has been extended with DLC Dead Kings. To do anything you will have to spent about 7 hours, if you like rush maybe less. But it's fine and you will have fun with it, because there are agains some little new features.

Pros:

- beautiful and detailed graphics
- very good story, many historic persons
- Paris as setting is awesome and full of life
- many sidequests and little things to do
- stealth is more important (I didn't mention that)
- combat system is more difficult
- home base
- coop missions
- character customization

Cons:

- Glitches
- In-Game-Currency for perks you don't need, but have to spend real money to get them if you want get the tasks in Uplay
- No Companion App anymore, to get some achievments in Uplay

In conclusion Assassins Creed Unity is a great game. Real fans of the series will love this game too and in my opinion I only can say that I had fun playing it over 140 hours to get everything and to reach 100%.
Now I am going to continue with Assassins Creed: Rogue
