I don't think Fallout 4 is a bad game, quite the contrary, I just think that it falls short compared to the previous Fallout games and is not worth the asking price unless you know how to mod. But I would recommend Fallout 4 to a more casual consumer or to someone who just wants to shoot stuff while I would recommend the previous titles to most other people. This review is for the base game as I haven't finished the DLC (from what I have heard and seen they fix a lot of my problems with the base game).

Pros:
- Good main quest/story (better than other Bethesda games but still not great)
- Good gunplay, thanks to id (id helped Bethesda because Bethesda is completely
incompetent and making a shooter)
- Alright graphics
- Most of the followers have personality and they are on par with New Vegas's (unlike Fallout 3 and Skyrim which had uninteresting followers)
- Larger cast of voice actors than previous Bethesda games (older ones had the same voice actor on many NPCs)
- Easy to get into
- Large open world
- Better feral ghouls
- Some of the weapons and armour is better designed than previous entries
- Resurgence in the modding community

Cons:
- Sadly the open world is mostly empty and devoid anything interesting aside of funny skeletons and combat
- Bland and restrictive dialogue choices
- Only about 5 interesting side quests
- The world doesn't feel alive
- No trace of horror (apart from Dunwich borers and that one death claw place)
- It doesn't take long to have an OP character
- Too few weapons and armour varieties
- Barley an RPG elements
- Can upgrade SPECIAL to max (Which goes against the original idea of SPECIAL)
- Forced into good guy role (not in Nuka World DLC)
- Nowhere near as atmospheric as old fallout games (unless you have mods or Far Harbor)
- Bethesda pretty much forces you into the settlement system
- Apart from companions, there are pretty much no interesting characters
- Creation club
- Settlements take the place of towns and villages which had interesting quests and NPCs in them in older games
Summary: This game is like an ocean with the depth of a Puddle, I recommend the GOTY edition it on sale (at least 50% off)
