NOMINATE OMORI FOR GAME OF THE YEAR 2021!!!!

I can start off by saying Omori has quickly become one of my favorite games I have ever played and I know I’ll still feel this way whenever any “recency bias” I might have wears off. I have never felt so connected to a group of characters, and I have never cried so hard over any piece of media in my entire life. Going into this game knowing many of my friends were deeply emotionally impacted by it set my expectations ridiculously high, and Omori still somehow exceeded those expectations tenfold. From the gorgeous scenery of each section of the game, the intricate story telling that doesn’t give away too much until you’ve already begun to piece everything together, the charming cast of characters who you come to love and (for me) can’t bring yourself to hate no matter what, to the absolutely amazing soundtrack the game offers, I can easily say Omori is a masterpiece. If I could score it higher than a 10/10 I would, easily. The way the game shows every character’s weaknesses and vulnerabilities, as well as their pros and how they work to overcome those vulnerabilities is truly so special, and the main reason why I felt so hard for these characters.

*MAJOR SPOILERS, IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME AND PLAN ON IT, DO NOT READ THIS*

Getting to the point of the recital at the end of the game, hearing Mari’s confidence in her piano playing along with Sunny’s violin playing in a way I can only compare to crying for forgiveness, the way they weaved in and out of each other and then clashed together to make one ultimate piece of pain yet forgiveness all in one when that wasn’t even the original intentions of the piece of music, absolutely killed me. I quite literally broke down in my girlfriend’s arms during it.

I could ramble about this game for so much longer but all I can really say is, if you’re reading this far and you HAVEN’T played the game, I hope you somehow skipped over the spoilers I mentioned and I truly hope you do yourself the favor and play the game.

Kill Clem and I yell at everyone at Telltale

EDIT: Episode One is fantastic, a real return to form after the confusing short episodes of A New Frontier.
