I want to preface this review bay saying I've never played a halo game before (Also this may contain story spoilers), when I was younger I only ever played PlayStation games so when I saw that all of the Halo series was up on a sale I thought Id check it out and play through the series and see what I missed. (same preface for my other halo reviews)

This the seccond Halo game I played (Having started with halo combat evolved because I didnt realise this was a prequel to the series). I played it on normal difficulty with no skulls or anything fancy.

Gun mechanics and gameplay: Ive started to pick up a general feel for the gun mechanics and gameplay for the series, from what I can see most aspects stay the same which I really like, I know there is a big jump in time between CE and Reach but many of the mechanics and game aspects remain (I would guess because they are so good) the only single thing I could fault it on was the recon mission with Jun, I would have really liked to have seen a stealth aspect to the series but I can see why they didnt add it as it might've taken away from the classic gameplay.

Story: I LOVED the story of reach, before playing the games I was aware that the series had a huge amount of lore which can be intimidating but this game drew me into the world. It's been a while since Ive cared about characters in a campaign let alone found one as engaing as reach, admittedly that might be a fault of my own but hey what are you going to do? At points in the campaign I found myself trying to kill enemies faster because I wanted to help marine AI or even help civilians trying to flee in ships, any game that manages that has really drawn me in. At first I didnt think much of the noble team concept, a Standard millitary rag-tag team which special skillsets like sniper, communications expert, leader ect. But throughout the story I was either surprised or sad that they died (not crying over my keyboard upset but still upset). Needless to say the story drew me into the game and at its conclusion left me dying for more.

Level design: Like CE the level design takes you through many enviroments, because this was a more modern installment of the series I found it much less repatative and more open but that much was to be expected, Im not really a level design expert but each level complimented the gameplay really well and offered new experiences (Saber mission).

Overall feel: As Ive said before ive started to really get a feel for the gameplay of the series and I love it, Reach's story perfectly compliments the game and makes it now one of my favourites, while the difficulty may be dramatically easier than CE I can see why they did it to open it up for everyone to play. I will come back to the reach campaign on a higher diccifulty setting both because I want the same difficulty as I had with CE and because I love the story so damm much. Reach is a must play game in my book and can be a great introduction to beginners in the series.

I want to preface this review bay saying I've never played a halo game before (Also this may contain story spoilers), when I was younger I only ever played PlayStation games so when I saw that all of the Halo series was up on a sale I thought Id check it out and play through the series and see what I missed.

I started here with CE and jumped in totally blind (no reviews or videos of game-play) so here is what I thought of it.

I played on normal difficulty and am I glad that I did, I was totally not expecting the brutal difficulty even on normal, so far I've only completed the game on normal but the idea of challenging myself to play through on legendary is something that definitely attracts me and Im determined to go back and give it a go.

Gun mechanics and game-play is classic shooter style great! sparse ammo and health packs make you change your play style and get creative so that your not using the bog-standard assault rifle for the entire play through.

Level design is also decent if not sometimes repetitive but the gun play and difficulty I think more than makes up for these old game limitations. Still there are plenty of different environments, I've heard liking the anniversary updated graphics and animations is a controversial opinion but I didn't mind them, I also enjoyed the classic graphics and the differences in setting that they created.

Story wise I enjoyed it, the game made me look into the lore of the world I was playing in and I can definitely say I was not expecting the game to take the zombie like turn that it did so was pleasantly surprised by it.

I'm currently playing through Halo Reach (I didn't realise it was a prequel) and then ill move to Halo 2 and upwards through the series but even now I see I missed a great game when I was younger but I cant be too upset because If I could have played these games when I had school I don't think I would have passed any of my exams!

Overall its a great game and I can see why it's an all time classic, even without the sale I would say its worth the £10 price tag for the amount of hours you can play in single-player. Right now its sitting at 75% off so if you want a cheap classic to sit back and relax with or a game to pull your hair out to, buy it, its great.

A really great classic style FPS, who doesn't like shooting n@zis? well there is lots of that with really solid game play mechanics. The only thing I could fault the game on is its limited visual options (Like not being able to remove the FPS cap) but other than that its faultless.

Do you want to be part of a happy and helpful community? Do you want devs to fix bugs and add new and exciting updates that enchance your gameplay?!
no.... thats why your looking at this game on steam.

Be ready to be called every name under the sun (Mostly Cyka and n00b). And expect hackers, smurfs and trolls at every corner, followed by smashing your keyboard so hard you dent the desk and the ground below (personal experience).

By the end you will have PTSD, Cancer and more AIDs in your system than the lead singer of Queen!

Still fun tho.
