This is one of the better coop roguelites.

With a variety of characters to choose from with unique play styles, great synergies among them and a simple but satisfactory RPG progression, combat starts difficult but you slowly but surely build towards becoming a powerhouse, making late-game pretty accessible. Dungeons are short and concise, runs can take up to 35 minutes and you always return with enough currency and exp to buy upgrades or level up!

I played about 70% of this game with my wife and had a blast. We somehow forgot about this game, but resumed my run like two weeks ago and finished the journey.

Aaah yes, the cherry on top, I know Hades made storytelling a central point for this kind of games, but this story in particular is pretty emotional and beautifully presented. Every single detail you find builds the lore up to a very satisfying conclusion. This is a tale of love, family and loyalty.

I'd totally recommend this game both for solo and coop play, especially with a loved one.

I'm tired of games trying so hard to be playable animes. Exposition and character interactions occur way too frequently and get in the way of the game, cinematics, banter while you are in the overworld and skits (small conversations between two or more characters which almost always are small talk like the weather or the character's preferences). to make it worse, almost none of those interactions are meaningful or fun since characters are one dimensional (the amnesiac-stoic protagonist, the smug noble, the loli, the musclehead, etc). In terms of gameplay; calling this a JRPG may be a stretch, combat is simplistic and button-mashy and gets worse the more you play since battles take way too long, progression and exploration are linear and pointless, enemy variety is non-existent, crafting cooking and fishing serve almost no purpose, maps are small and boring to explore.

At the time of writing I had played this game for 9 hours and I already felt like wasted time.

Completed the main story in 68 hours, but hear me out; THIS SHOULD BE A 20-HOUR-GAME, BUT IT'S SO DISRESPECTFUL OF YOUR TIME THAT DRAGS OUT UNNECESSARILY FOR HOURS UPON HOURS.

This game inspired and motivated me to never touch a "Tales" game ever again.
mild 5/10.

The Ghibli charm is there, the story is cute the characters are great to interact with, the world-building is ok and the visuals and music are master-crafted. HOWEVER.... Gameplay is full of unnecessary busywork, leveling and crafting is grindy as hell, AND FOR F's SAKE, that final boss was god-awfully infuriating, that battle alone made all the flaws the battle system have visible. The fight itself is not hard, but every time bosses throw skills at you you are locked into a cutscene, well the thing is the mf final boss casts skills every 2-3 seconds, and it's surrounded by adds which will probably stunlock you in an eternal loop as you helplessly watch as your characters slowly die even when 25-30 levels above the recommended. I have absolutely no desire to play the post-game which I know has optional bosses and harder versions of the ones in the story.

Ugh, this sounds so much like an angry rant, maybe I'm just not the target audience for this game, but despite it's highs, I wouldn't recommend this game at all, feels like it's designed to keep children busy.

Also, it runs like trash.

This is the first Assassin's Creed game I actually finish. So I don't really have any point of comparison, I think it's a fine RPG with solid mechanics, combat is fun and you can build into an absolute monster who oneshots anything and everything, story is well written but doesn't develop all that much, Bayek is mostly stoic and boring, but you can emphatize with him and his cause, plot twists won't be a surprise for anyone who knows a bit of history, still fun to get through. Although, the game is a lot longer than it needs to be (classic Ubisoft).

Truth is, I struggled to have any fun playing saga mode solo when it first came out, sent it to backlog hell for a couple years and just recently dug it off to play survival mode with my wife and had a blast. It's still a bit-sized survival adventure with clear objectives and some pretty basic combat.
Finished the story in about 20 hours. Would easily recommend for a weekend or two of good fun. Probably wait for sale.

Quite honestly, I was feeling a bit dissapointed by this game because of the slow start and fairly boring combat system, but the love put into this world Sabotage has built shows. Every single one of the characters breathe charm, and of course best-boy Garl steals the spotlight. Still, some characters could have used some more love, both protagonists are stoic and dull, they also don't develop that much, same could be said of the pirate crew, what was their point beside sailing the sea of stars? They are charmful, don't get me wrong, but they don't get too much time to shine.
The narrative cooks itself slowly but when the twists hit they do go hard, world-building is interesting, there is no piece of lore that goes unused in some creative way.

As I said, combat is not a strong point of this game, it has some fun ideas like the "lock-breaking" system, which sadly doesn't age well, making most trash and boss fights longer than they must be. Luckily, combat is scarse and grinding is not mandatory. Also there's a small stat-allocating system whenever you level up, but stats are capped, making the choices not to matter in the long term since you'll eventually get all stat boosts you need anyway.

The world itself steals the show, its presentation is flawless, traversal is mostly fun (except for some instances where backtracking is needed, there is no fast travel and world-map shortcuts aren't all that useful) and biomes are diverse, there are plenty interesting misteries in the overworld; gargantuan statues, sunken environments, a freakin' sleeping dragon around a mountain. You learn a lot about this world during this journey, and, surprisingly, it all feels believable and makes sense.

Overall, I'd say this game is absolutely worth experiencing, took me around 40 hrs. of effective playtime to get both endings and most achievements. It has some rough edges but its strong points outweigh the weaker ones and carry the experience; I give it a 9/10.

Cassette Beasts is a love letter to every 30-year-old who grew up playing Pokémon and became dissapointed with each subsequent entry, seeing how the franchise we once loved grew stagnant. This game dares to advance the genre formula, proposing systems that are actually engaging; creatures are fun to collect, fusions are interesting, since they temporarily combine both monsters into a more powerful form for that current battle, adding-up their stats, movesets and elemental types. Bosses are interestingly challenging, and the open world is fun enough to navigate.
It is a shame though that the story is so damn cringe and the characters are so bland, otherwise this game would be perfect in what it tries to do.
