Prequel to Ancient Ys vanished I and II. It is hard to say if it is better to play it first or after two games. If you play it first, you will probably enjoy and understand more stuff in them but if you play it after them... they are kinda more emotional and we all know that is is popular to make prequels.

Anyway you must know that you can play this game three times. There are three routes with some minor and bigger changes in story and mainly you play as different characters... so same bosses and areas with different playstyles and some different encounters. BUT... you must play last route... Toal route... because it is the canon route. You will get much more lore and it is the only route that have events in line with first two games. (And it is kind of true or happy ending... it is the best anyway).

Individual routes are kind of short. First run will be longer since you will need to explore everything for the first time and there can of course be some hurdles in the process. Another two routes will be easier and quicker to clear.

I really enjoyed the combat, bosses and mainly the story. All this transpire in just one tower with almost no "quests"... you are just ascending... and story is unfolding. I will not go any deeper and just say that it is good game. Not great but not terrible. The fact that they stretch the playtime with the easiest way possible is not ideal and lack of quests or open areas could be considered negative aswell.

As a standalone game it is enjoyable. As a prequel and part of Ys trilogy (you know how I mean it right) it is even better. I would give it 7,5/10.

(I already finished the game outside of steam so do not mind my playtime. I bought it here just for collection and I thought that I could aswell write a review... But I guess my playtime on first was somewhere between 7-9 hours since I was exploring everything and talking with everyone every time there were updates in story and in second game it was over 10 hours since I got kind of lost in Solomon temple).

I tried to start Ys series with this... first (and second) entries and I regret nothing. I would never expect this level of immersion with that old of a game. It is one of many releases of these games on different platforms ranging from PC Engine CD, PC88, Windows, PSP, DS or PS2... almost all of them together, with different approach to music and retexturing, improving and adding content like new animation sequences and stuff... Lets just say that this PC version "chronicles+" released in the west on Steam should be the newest and just... have it all (ofc someone could find for example Ethernal textures prettier but overall it has all stuff that was added over the years... BUT DS version should have different map layouts and even engine so I can not judge that one. I can say that it is comparable to Ethernal or Complete). Anyway... I went for new looks and music (you can choose between new chronicle look or complete based look)... and I just loved the music and design. Battle system was smooth, kind of refreshing and interesting. The story and characters are compared to (my favorite) series logh more "fairy tale" or "heroic tale" like and the plot is really based on this concept. It has strong moments, epic bossfights and bittersweet feeling. I must say I am glad I tried this gem. Really good games to start Ys adventure!

The smoothest trails game yet. Everything improved so much with the third part of Erebonia arc. Rean is older and is now the instructor of new class VII (which is great aspect helping in his character development). It is this single game which shows just how great and even greater this series is and probably will be. Ending and revelations were just so twisted and thoroughly made. Opening and ending songs (including Gral of Erebos) are works of true art btw. It would stand its ground against Sora SC and Ao (which are my favorite entries). I have no idea if I will ever review "end of saga" aka Cold Steel IV since I already finished it on playstation and you know... it costs money. I can just say that it was hella epic and even better than this game.

If you wanna make an ending... probably do it just once. That is an advice I would give this game since "post" or "second" ending after first really twisting and great ending kinda ruined the overall feeling. But... lets focus more on the big amount of locations... really long and well-written story (like every other kiseki title) and kind of ending of the first half of Erebonia arc. We are realizing that the dangers are bigger and older than we ever thought.

The beginning of Erebonia arc (and for some poor clueless souls the entry point to the kiseki series WHICH IT REALLY IS NOT BUT OK). New graphics, new mechanics... whole new engine bringing trails to the modern third person rpg era. It was not perfect... new bonding system and school environment were not my cup of tea. But the story is shaping and letting the big conspiracy to unfold. Definitely a good game nonetheless.

Sadly probably my least favorite kiseki title. It kind of lost some of its key points and instead of lively world it focuses on closing some plot holes and opening new beginnings. It will give us an opportunity to say goodbye to some characters (but trust me... this series will not take them from you entirely... that is what is so epic about it). New main protagonist is at least really interesting and enjoyable. Crossbell arc is still not localized so even though I left like 300 hours on both crossbell games combined I sadly can not review the best arc of kiseki series yet.

Second part of Liberl arc is probably one of the best games in the series. The plot is just so mindblowing, bring you to tears (of joy aswell) and just leave you thinking how much you got attached to the story and the whole world. Mechanics and stuff is the same as the first game but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... everything else is so much better!

This review is kinda late but I thought that it is better than none at all.
I just fell in love with this series (and I am hella glad I started from the only right point). The world, politics, secrets, characters... everything is made just perfectly. Something you will not get from any other rpg series since almost none of them ever tried to build such a big tower of a complex world and mainly the journey of main characters through arcs. First game is a little bit slower and the plot is not that big but it is great introduction and starting point for world of Zemuria. Turn based combat is well made and overall immersion is huge. It is great and long game.

Is it worth playing? Yeah, if you like just roaming long dungeons and fighting enemies. If you expect something interesting concerning the plot aside from stuff we already know from the ending of the game and some w**men drama which will cause you headache... then NOPE.

Is it worth the money? HELL NO!

Honestly this DLC gave me two things: My hatred for Rose only went up to the skies (I just can not stand her you know) and that long dungeons can get so f*cknig boring that you wanna end yourself. There are some ok parts and dialogues but for the price and for your dear time... Nah nah nah, not worth it at all.

I was afraid what to expect when I saw all those opinions about "worst tales game" etc. To be perfectly honest with you, I enjoyed it! I finally got my decent side quests, nice story and world... Compared to Berseria it is worse in some areas but on the other hand there is stuff I enjoyed more in this game. I will not write big review as in Berseria because I am lazy ass dork and because comparing it to Berseria will do too since it is the same world. I would say that it felt bigger... there side quests as I mentioned earlier and overall it felt like a longer adventure. Story as a whole is probably more interesting in Berseria and when it comes to characters I would say it is pretty close. As I did not like Velvet in Berseria, I don't like Rose in Zestiria. On the other hand I really like Mikleo, Lailah, Zaveid, Dezel and Edna. When it comes to Sorey and Alisha... I can compare them to Eleanor from Berseria... they are those pure hearted fools but are still ok. I really do not know why I hate Rose... maybe her character as a whole... Alisha story DLC really helped me to hate her even more. But that is really subjective and I know there is a huge amount of Rose lovers... so yeah. Overall the game was good. If it is the worst tales game then I expect only the best stuff when I will try next one!
