If you want a finely tuned classic JRPG with a great story and memorable cast of characters you can’t do much better than FF4. This DS port edition adds some modern conveniences like being able to continue where you left off when you die, quick saves at any time and rewards for exploring an entire floor to make grinding feel like..well..less of a grind. I enjoyed the 3D pixilated graphics, still looks retro while adding clarity. The new battle menu is cumbersome but workable, the voice work is alright and adds a nice touch to the classic musical score. Attacks, magic, abilities, and challenging foes make battle engrossing. Install the 20FPS battle patch for a smooth experience.

35 hours of gameplay, controller support and moderate but not excessive grinding along with the ever changing cast of characters make FF4 a very accessible classic JRPG. Pick up a copy, put on your Blue Mage hat, hop on your Chocobo and party like its 1994 all over again.

Nice review m8. :ss13ok::cybereye:
I just added this to my WL.
Have u played the sequel to this: FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS?

I totally agree that Grandia is heaps under-rated. I finished it last year & thought it was great. :reexcited::steamhappy:

Good Question Forte. I loved FF4, it’s my new fav FF. I liked the pace, it felt like an epic adventure but it only took 35 hours, while FF10 took me close to a hundred back in the day and the last 20 was a chore. And the FF4 characters are really awesome and many. I'm one of the oddballs though who really enjoyed FF13, so my taste may not match most: FF4 > FF7 > FF13 >>> FF10. I have played chunks of 9 and 6 but not completed them. Eventually I would like to complete 6, 8, 9 and the 13 sequels but so many games so little time. Still say Xenosaga is the best JRPG series of all time though and Grandia is criminally underappreciated.

How about you Forte, have you completed any FF titles and if so which ones and what is your fave?

Agreed. Nice review :> Didn't know about the 20fps patch and the modern conveniences added.
Out of curiousity, how do you feel it fares with the other Final Fantasies you've played? Always interesting to hear what people have to say about different parts of the series.
