Early Access Review
If you played the first one, it's as amazing. If you haven't played the first one, buy it and this and play both.

*sigh* Not even going to bring up the fact that they put BROKE AF titles/skills behind a paywall but I absolutely HATE when the ai is cheap. I played this game on hard for 88 hours and I just cannot seem to understand what the hype is with this game. The combat system is fine but I don't understand why the reaction is so positive? It doesn't feel any different than playing an ARPG like Hades. i don't recall combat in Berseria being particularly bad that this "newer" system is so ground breaking.

My main gripe is the way the boss fights go. Everything is firing off wonderfully right up until the "Enrage" phase of the fights. Wherein I guess they decided that a hidden minigame within the boss fight begins by your party just getting 1 shot. I'm not joking here. I don't know how many times I've had to watch the mongoloid hamster running your party members just keel over suddenly and then you begin the true end game, life bottle shuffling. You have to strategically move your party around in the setup menu to res and heal to full your dead members while waiting on the item timer and also watching the half ressed party you have just keep getting killed. Over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over until you either run out of resources to ress them or the boss dies through attrition. Btw, even if you put "Inc Aggro L" on Kisara, they still pursue you relentlessly because SHE CAN'T TAKE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HIT.

I normally avoid guides until I beat a game but I figured "Hey, maybe you're just finally hitting the 'Old man' stage of gaming." and did some research online to improve my game. Yeah, that yielded very little assistance as, apparently, I just needed to get good. Not sure how good I need to be when I get smashed through perfect dodges because I didn't know I need to do 3 of those in a row to just end up taking damage from something off-screen.

SPEAKING OF SCREENS, WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ IS THE CAMERA TRYING TO PEG ME!? Also, what is the point of having a character with a boost ability intended to interrupt spells (I know you can also do this through attrition buuuuuuut...) but I never seem to have it up enough to deal with certain fights. Which I guess I could just punch my way through but I spend so much of my time just dodging, all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dodging. Most of the time I'm dodging and watching the ai beat on the boss while I use the boost attack as they come up.

I'm still telling myself that I'm the weird one here and it's likely just my own unique experience because everywhere I look it seems to be a hit. Everyone else is having fun but me and this feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful and I'm very disappointed and bummed out about this Tales of game. I'm like seriously, no joke ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ depressed over this. This really sucks :(

Edit/update: Dropping the difficulty down to Moderate fixed the "issue" but it becomes so easy that lvl difference is the only factor and it's not much of one. The story is fine, great even.

TL/DR: Play the game on moderate difficulty unless you buy the title DLC for best experience.

When I play this game I get my action rpg diablo-like fill but I'm not thinking of diablo when I play it. I love the engineer personally and I LOVE the agency I feel when using my skill points. I like the story and appreciate how well it fits along with the characters. The modding community seems to have enjoyed themselves plenty with Torchlight II as well and I've had a blast toying around with them. Even if you don't care for mods the base game is more than enough to keep you engaged.

If you like games like diablo but need a less gritty flavor or you don't have the time to figure out all the ins and outs of Path of Exile then this is a great game for you.
