Even though the game is called 'Don't Starve', starvation is one of the lesser problems you encounter in the game.
You are more likely to be killed by angry bees or creepy tentacles from the ground than from any actual food shortage - at least, in the beginning. The more you play, the more things you have to watch out for, and with the new dlcs it becomes even more challening.
