This game series ("Warhammer Total War 1 and 2 and 3") is glorious. For fans of Warhammer i'd recommend. For old total war fans: I m not sure.
It's out for a while, and therefore we could watch a bit of plans from devs. I wasn't inclined to give a review, but to try to SAVE others from regrets, I m gonna review it here.
You see, it's great game with great potential. When you start to play it, you will end up spending many many hours in it. And that's the thing. You may end up with "broken heart". You probably wont escape some (sentimental) thoughts about this game you are playing for so long- looong hours. Devs are developing it still- it gets updates, new content and such. And there is a problem. You CAN'T choose to stay behind- like OK now this is a game version/state I like, i want to keep it this way. NOPE. And so you have DLCs and updates and so on. Therefore it's not exactly a finished product. And you may not like the direction it 's headed towards. Like some Paradox games with endless DLCs which turn your play-style upside down. Or World of Warcraft across those long years. Or Conan Exiles when they choose to switch off offline singleplayer possibility to online only with season passess. Its bound to happen when you have a large project spanning multiple years. It's okay I guess, such is the way of life. Sometimes we gotta say goodbye...

I'd describe this "project" like this:
Once upon a time there was a young and beautiful thing full of potential and ambition. Years passed. Until it got old and crooked and much remained unfulfilled, all that remained was lost potential. Road was taken and it lead to disappointment for many. The worst were hit those who stood by it from the start.
And as the thing rots and festers like Nurgle's plague victim, a daemon is born. As daemonic entity turns against former friends, old friends become enemies.
There's no more bitter enemy than old friend.
To me this looks like a mess rather than a worthy successor to WH TW 1 and 2. And I grieve for this lost friend.
(PS. Not all my hours played are shown because I play a lot offline, I'm offline single player kind)
