The game is fun and unique. Gaijin have in the past had quite an anti-consumer mindset with this game which led to plenty of issues, culminating in several negative reviews from players (myself included); unusually they are appearing to genuinely listen to feedback from the community and appear to be changing for the better. While it did take them long enough to change their mindset they did end up doing so (many game devs never do) which is worthy of appreciation.

This DLC launched with placeholder GUI elements that we had seen in the dev diaries, it might not be a big thing but at an objective level this makes it an incomplete product - I don't like being charged money for something that's incomplete.

Unfortunately, placeholder GUI stuff is the least of the issues with this, on launch everything was horribly balanced (specifically monuments) and there where countless bugs and exploits, a large number of these have been addressed so quickly that I genuinely think they uploaded the wrong version to steam, especially since so many of the balance concerns were already raised on the dev diaries.

Even after a patch this remains messy, I just invested 6 or 7 hours into a play through, my game crashed and now both the save and its back-up are blank maps, as you can imagine this isn't fun.

All in all the ideas in the DLC are good but are drowned out by a steaming pile of bugs and lack of care, the fact that any of these made it into the final release is a damning indictment on the QA team, assuming the QA team actually exists at all.

The AI seems to posses the logical capacity of Tumblr and the auto unit cycle which has no in-game option to turn off is actually worse than the great depression. Total lack of diplomacy outside of: pay money learn more about what they are doing. Core concepts and what has changed from civ 5 is really good but when the AI can't even take an undefended, unwalled city it makes the game a little too easy. If you're going to play with friends and no AI this would be tense an action packed.

If this game had come out on say miniclip when I was 7 then it would have been good. Unfortunately I no longer am 7 nor do I go on miniclip.

-edit: some child with a crippling disability being held at gunpoint would have been a superior voice actor.
