I love this game! I will be honest and admit I'm a hopoo fanboy, I bought this game almost entirely based on my experiences with Risk of Rain, and I wasn't disappointed!
The game keeps itself seperate from titles similar to it by focusing at least partly on stealth, rather than the fun, bass-pumping of hotline miami, and I greatly appreciate the sneaky manuvers that can be achieved. While the mechanics are simple (raise gun shoot gun throw melle weapon) I keep finding new ways to use the simple design to my advantage, exploiting tricks with a knowledge obtained through many black blood stains (Big bartender vampires take three hammer hits to kill, phylactaries and head cameras can be broken eith a hammer and still let you keep the weapon, you cant out damage a nightcrawler. Ever)
This is a game that offers a great set of challenges for an enthusiast, from the tricky levels in hard mode to the nose-bleedingly difficult four horseman achievements, and, coupled with a community of map makers, will keep a pulse on the undead for a while. The other challenge, and one I had hoped would appear again, is the deep set touches of lore and story that give the world life and hint at something greater. For the life of me, and SPOILERS AHEAD








Despite collecting nearly all tapes I can only glean that you live as a reaper in this Place, and Ibzan was the reaper before you and wants to pass on, which he believes he can do by speaking with the Flame. Even getting to this conclusion took a fair deal of brain twisting, and while that might not appeal to everyone, I know I am not alone in loving thehidden lore of a game.
In conclusion, buy. This. Game. If not for the story and hidden details, if not for the very well done musical accompanyment, if not for the challenge of beating famine and death, get it because at its core, Deadbolt is a fun and fast paced stealth hybrid, and good Flame who doesn't want to spam knock on a door until someone answers and eats blunderbuss?
