As long as I can remember, crabs have been a mainstay in life. I remember walking down the beach and looking at the tide pools, watching the little ones scurry around as they wrestled for the top of the rocks. My family would all get together and cook a bunch of crabs for a feast. As I grew, I chased crayfish in the creek and began to eat lobsters as well. My cousin went into shrimping, following in the footsteps of my uncle, who had taken us on his boat as he trapped crabs when we were younger. Eventually, I reached a point in my life where I realized that although I loved them, the crab business was not for me. I went into a deep depression, trying to fill the void in my life with more crab. I became desperate, seeking out crab at all times of the day. I even tried imitation crab. Imagine my surprise when I, 12 crab legs deep into my midnight snack, discovered a video game that would allow me to relive my glory days through the eyes of the creatures I loved so much. I eagerly clicked play, and to my delight, I saw a little brown crab emerge from the sand. I could only play for an hour before breaking down and bursting into tears. Everything was just like I remember. The bigger crabs crushing the little ones. The make believe teams they would form as they tried to get to the highest point. Even in the game, the goal of being the best holds true. Robot Squid has truly created a masterpiece that has not only reminded me of the best days of my life, but also offers so much more. In video games, the protagonist is often a human. This is nice, but there is little room for creativity without outside elements like guns or augmentations or some kinds of powers. King of Crabs shatters expectations by embracing its role as a true pioneer in the crab royale genre of video games. If you liked the battle royale craze before, then you'll love the thrill that only true crab gameplay can give. I have often felt the science fiction and fantasy genres have neglected crabs. Sure, you may get an odd mudcrab or two, but nothing that really pushes the bounds of what a crab can be. King of Crabs offers not only robots, not only aliens, not only demons, but also magic, all in crab form. Each crab has its own personality and skills so that you never get bored and can find the crab you most relate to. Though I have not been able to play much without becoming overwhelmed with emotion, King of Crabs is a masterpiece unlike anything I have ever seen. I would recommend this game to any and all that can have the honor, nay, the privilege, to play and enjoy such a work of art. My only regret is that I can't say more about the impact this game has had on my life.
