I don't get why people give this game such high praises as it gives so much grief and I didn't get the satisfaction that I thought I would after beating the bosses because of the sheer amount of deaths it took... Instead I only feel relieved from all the stress in the process. I don't feel like I'm having a good time at all! No more soul games for me and I'm uninstalling this game after encountering Snake Eye Shirahagi because it's such a bs enemy and I'm not dealing with whatever comes after... SMDH

If you wanna train your critical thinking skill, I recommend playing this game on tactician mode. Not only it's will make every encounter exciting but it will also force you to consider every move. You will begin to reflect on the previous mistakes and starting to plan for the next encounter (what skills to use first, what positions to get into etc...) It's also crucial to utilize the environments and resources because on tactician mode any single move can determine the outcome of an encounter. Make sure to save at the beginning of every encounter!

Story is pretty generic - It has a really well designed and immersive atmosphere (great soundtrack). Personally I think it'd save me a lot of running around figuring out what mission I should do if they had indicated the suggested levels in different areas, sometimes I would just get ambushed by enemies that are 3 levels higher and get rekt. But I guess the developers did (or didn't do) so to encourage exploration. Also be prepared to read a lot of guides because there are just too many unintuitive/quirky things you can do that will affect the outcome of the quest (i.e rewards and experience).

Over all the game is a slow burn but a good one, especially if you enjoy RPG & DnD

To make things more clear, the title of this game should be: The Most Unfortunate Family In Existence

This game is really buggy comparing to the its predecessor and what's even worse is that the enemies don't F**king register your shots if you fire your weapons too quickly, they have an invincible window while getting staggered basically. Like WTF, when playing on the hard difficulty level the ammo is already so scarce and you get punished by firing your weapons too quickly, then you end up with no ammo and you can't do ♥♥♥♥♥ but sneak past the enemies... On top of that, the weapon damage is outrageously unproportional to a point that it doesn't make sense... for example 3 explosive harpoon does not have the same damage output as a headshot from the sniper rifle. This is just a deal breaker to me, despite its good atmosphere and story, I don't recommend it as its fundamental gameplay mechanics are broken, and 50% of the time you spend in this game involves combat.

In terms of replay value, this game has zero to none which makes such a waste of potential. The previous game has some cool DLCs to extend the gameplay but what about this game? They just let you replay the entire story mode on a harder difficulty level with the upgraded perks from first play through. Why can't they implement a mode where I can just kill monsters like COD zombies mode? It could have added so much more to this game.

This review is meant for those who are debating whether or not they should spend their hard earned money on this somewhat iffy title. I was in the same shoes not too long ago, where I'd thought the game has a strange vibe and I was never a fan of hack and slash games. Then I decided to give it a shot.

Nier: Automata is a game created with the mindset of "How to make players not sense the slightest boredom after the first 20 minutes of gameplay". Then after the first playthrough as 2B, the credit rolls and you'd think wow, that was pretty intense but that's it? Of course it doesn't end there, as you'll continue your second play through from a different perspective on the same events. You don't like to replay the game? I feel ya, I'm not a fan either. Although there are some similarities between the first run and the second, it is not the typical replay as you would expect as you will begin to develope a deeper connection with the characters and the world, which are to help build up for the finale. Yep, and that is the third play through as the continuation of the previous events. What's that? You thought 2B was the only character you can play because of the way the game was promoted? So did I, but now you know. Also keep in mind that each character has his/her unique perks and weapon attack styles as well, so that's very neat.

So I'd say if you are an ordinary human being who does not live an extraordinary life, the game will have moments that are very personal to you and they resonate with you to make you feel very emotional. It could be the music, (which by the way is phenomenal, it's very consistant on its takes of different environments, one of the best game OST) the quests (it's funny that the game sometimes is self-conscious about the boring fetching quests), or the ways that the protagonists handle their circumstances. If story means a great deal to you, this game is worth your hard earned money, and just buy it, you will experience something that will last a long time.

It is truely a different game in the current generation.

I simply cannot recommend this game as it unexpectedly crashed and I lost more than one hour progress. That includes weapon upgrades, adam collected using little sister, voice taps, boss fights and plasmid upgrades.
Game mechanics are clunky and effects are underwhelming comparing to current shooting games. If I had played it 8 years back I'd be impressed by it, but from present day perspective, it's not that good, nothing really stands out at all, not to mention the crashes that wipe out the progress you made since the last manual save. I don't know if I want to get back to this and finish it, that crash was a huge discouragement. I couldn't care less about how good of a story it has, having played the first and the third game, if it takes so much headache to get through this one I'd rather not touch it.

I didn’t play the original game, nor was I a huge Resident Evil fan, but this game is something else. It’s combined with horror, survival and puzzle elements that I have not experienced in any other games, it’s very unique in its own way and it’s left me with a memorable experience.

However, please do keep in mind that this is a remaster of a 2002 game( meaning that all they upgraded was the visual perspective of the game, nothing was changed in terms of the gameplay) and it can be very frustrating sometimes.

Here are several nitpicky things that bothered me the most, if you are okay with the following issues, then you’ll definitely enjoy the game.

-First of all, there is no HUD and there is not guide or hint to help you solve the puzzles. Most of the time you will find yourself clueless and running around the rooms spamming F key on everything. I lost thousands of hair during this process.

-Speaking of moving across different rooms… Gosh I hope they could remove this obnoxious loading screen of opening a freaking door! What on earth is the point of this when you can hit V and switch between characters in different rooms without any delays? Remastered games should rid of these excessive and annoying features that were once necessary due to the technical challenges at the time, but it should not be persevered as a trademark for the game when these technical challenges have been overcome.

-Inventory management. I’m in between on this one, I understand it’s a survival horror game and there must be limitations on the amount of resources you are allowed to carry, but sometimes you really get screwed for not having something with you that you have just left behind.

-Save points. Probably one of the most punishing games in terms of saving. You get these ink cartridges and you have to use them on typewriters that are scattered only in a few rooms of your current stage. My recommendation is when you see a typewriter, save it, when you played over for 15 mins, go back to that type writer and save it. DO NOT carry ink cartridges with you, just drop them next to the typewriter after saving and pick them up when you want to save, this way you save one extra slot for other things. I can’t count how many times I rage quitted for not saving my progress and dies because I thought I have enough health and resources to advance to the next typewriter location. But then a leech man or an unexpected boss shows up and corner-slaps me to death. Too many uncertainties, you can never be too careful.

But those were just my honest opinions about this game, if those things don’t bother you or maybe you like to be punished by this classic game in such ways, then it’s a perfect game for you. Not to mention it is also an excellent game to get into for the resident evil series.
